Fei Hu wanted to soak in the bathtub for a little longer, but he couldn't shake off Ye Cheng's earlier words, which made him feel a bit anxious. So, he only lay there for a short while before getting dressed and leaving the bathroom.
In the living room, Ye Cheng, Sister Wu, and Yingzi were gathered around the coffee table, which held a brand new root-carved tea set. Sister Wu was sitting to one side, expertly brewing tea for the three of them, wearing a blissful smile on her face. Fei Hu had often wondered how a woman in her fifties could be with a man in his seventies and what sustained their life together; he still hadn't found an answer.
"Come sit over here! This is the tea set that Teapot Lid just gifted us, especially this newly released Da Hong Pao. It tastes amazing!" Ye Cheng called out to Fei Hu as soon as he saw him emerge from the bathroom.
With a slight smile, Fei Hu sat down next to Yingzi. Sister Wu placed a prepared teacup in front of him. Once the water boiled, she rinsed the tea leaves with hot water and then poured boiling water into the teapot. With her fingers gathered together, she picked up the small teapot and began pouring tea for everyone present. Watching the light yellow yet rich tea, Fei Hu couldn't help but swallow.
He picked up his teacup and imitated their actions, slowly savoring a sip. The taste was indeed exquisite; anyone could tell that. Although Fei Hu knew little about tea culture, he could still discern the uniqueness of this Da Hong Pao.
"Fei Hu, I’m sorry you were startled yesterday. Are you hurt? Can you tell us everything that happened?" Ye Cheng finally began to inquire about yesterday's events.
After taking a sip of tea, Fei Hu maintained his smile. He took a deep breath and recounted everything that had happened after Yingzi left yesterday morning, speaking slowly to ensure he didn't miss any details.
After listening to Fei Hu's account, Ye Cheng's hand trembled slightly as he held his teacup. He sighed and said, "The woman in the mask? What is her identity? And this Liu Yipiao has a terrible reputation on the streets; plus, with the police chasing him, he hasn't shown his face in years. Is he really willing to risk his life for fifty thousand yuan?" Ye Cheng muttered repeatedly, clearly caught off guard by the appearance of these people, which made Fei Hu feel even more uncertain.
Yingzi glanced at Fei Hu and said, "As soon as I returned to the villa yesterday, I received intelligence from the mouse that Ye Wu planned to raid the villa during daylight. To avoid a direct confrontation, I immediately left with Grandpa and moved here."
"What? You left Sister Wu behind?" Upon hearing this, Fei Hu asked anxiously.
Sister Wu chuckled lightly and said, "It's fine; we can't all leave at once or else Ye Wu would get suspicious. So I stayed behind. About half an hour after Yingzi left, Ye Wu arrived with only four people. However, I suspect there might be more lurking outside. This guy is quite arrogant; he barged straight into my brother's bedroom without finding anyone before starting to question me." Sister Wu spoke very calmly; after all, she had been living with Ye Cheng.
It seemed like there were no issues at first glance, but things couldn't be that simple. Unable to hold back any longer, Fei Hu asked Sister Wu, "Did he try to harm you?"
"He didn’t target me directly; however, he did hit a few maids who were terrified. This was just to intimidate me; I ignored him completely. In short, my brother went to Changbai Mountain with Yingzi, and it will take them about half a month to return. When he heard that, he nearly went mad and finally gritted his teeth and spat out 'Hand over my brother's position; otherwise, even if I have to go abroad, I'll find him.'" As she said this, Sister Wu shook her head helplessly.
Fei Hu asked with some confusion, "Do you think Grandpa will believe that Ye Wu went to Changbai Mountain?"
"Yes, Changbai Mountain has our Dragon Tiger Gang's reclusive brothers. He is my best friend, and this is no secret. So when Sister Wu says this, Ye Wu will start to believe it. The most important thing now is that Yingzi and I cannot show ourselves for the time being. If we can hold off for three to five days, Ye Wu will lower his guard against me. From what I know about this guy, he must be planning something shady soon," Ye Wu said confidently as he stroked his white beard.
So that's how it is! The masked woman, Ye Wu and Ye Wei, what kind of relationship do they have? Fei Hu sipped his tea, closed his eyes, and pondered deeply. However, based on what he currently knew about Ye Wu, he really couldn't recall what this guy was up to.
"Fei Hu, it's good that you're back! Now I can rest easy about my brother's safety. I need to hurry back to the villa; otherwise, it will raise Ye Wu's suspicions," Sister Wu said as she immediately stood up and walked towards the door.
Ye Cheng nodded and said to Fei Hu, "I'm fine here. This afternoon, A-Dong and Teapot Lid will bring all the brothers—about a hundred of them—to stay here starting today."
"Wow! With so many people, will there be enough space?" Fei Hu blurted out.
Yingzi smiled slightly and said, "This villa has three floors plus a basement with over thirty rooms. Even with a hundred people, we can squeeze in." Yingzi spoke with great confidence. From her expression, Fei Hu sensed that Ye Cheng was planning something big.
"Time is a bit tight for us; I'll be straightforward! Fei Hu, after more than a year of getting to know you, I truly believe in you. Although our Dragon Tiger Gang is a gang, we never engage in immoral acts. I don't want it to fall into the hands of people like Ye Wu or Ye Wei. The purpose of our ancestors in establishing this gang was to support the weak and help the poor while stabilizing the area. Although our current situation contradicts that initial purpose, I have been striving to uphold it. Time waits for no one; I'm getting old and can't compete with Ye Wu and them in some aspects anymore," Ye Cheng said halfway through his sentence.
Fei Hu stood up and cupped his fists towards Ye Cheng, saying loudly, "Thank you for your recognition, Grandpa! But I really don't want to take over the Dragon Tiger Gang. It's not that the Dragon Tiger Gang is bad; it's just that I value my freedom and prefer a carefree life. I'm willing to help you and Yingzi without hesitation, but taking on the position of leader is something I truly don't want to do. Firstly, I'm too young to command respect; secondly, I lack experience in this area. I'm afraid of disappointing your hopes for me."
"Excuses! As a man, do you only know how to indulge in pleasure? Can't you do something meaningful? The position of leader in the Dragon Tiger Gang is above thousands; if managed well, it can still benefit the people," Yingzi said angrily as she slammed her teacup onto the table. What’s wrong with her today? She used to seem supportive of Fei Hu's ideas; why has she turned against him now?
Ye Cheng waved at Yingzi as if to calm her down and then smiled faintly at Fei Hu, saying, "Child, I'm not forcing you. However, given the current situation, you and I are tied together with no way out; we can only fight back together. This matter may have entangled you from the very beginning due to our Ye Family's actions. It’s unavoidable that you've been drawn into this mess without realizing it; now wanting to withdraw completely isn't so simple anymore."
Upon hearing this, Fei Hu felt a tremor in his heart. It was indeed true; Ye Wu wanted him dead while Ye Wei couldn't tolerate him either. And then there was the masked woman from yesterday—various signs indicated that he could only follow Ye Cheng's lead or leave City A entirely. But he wasn't someone who liked to back down. He had invested so much in City A already; moreover, there was the woman he loved here—he couldn't bear to part with either of them. Fei Hu lowered his head and fell into deep thought.
Ye Cheng approached him gently patted his head and sighed, "Child, don’t make it hard on yourself. I'll give you three days to think it over because in three days' time, the Eight Elders of Dragon Tiger Gang will come to discuss the succession of the leader position. By then, I hope you can give me a satisfactory answer." After saying this, Ye Cheng exchanged a meaningful glance with Yingzi before turning and walking upstairs with his hands behind his back.
"Hey! You have such a big attitude now, and the position of the Dragon Tiger Gang leader is something others can't even compete for. Grandpa supports you so much, yet you're like this; it's really disappointing," Yingzi said, giving Fei Hu a disdainful glance.
Fei Hu paced around the living room twice, looking a bit troubled as he glanced at Yingzi and said, "What do you mean? It seems like you used to support my ideas. Why have you changed now?"
"You’re right. In the past, I didn’t understand the Dragon Tiger Gang well, but now I fully recognize its necessity. I also agree with Grandpa that the leader's position in this gang shouldn't fall into the hands of someone like Ye Wu. You are the most suitable candidate, so you can't let us down; you must take on this responsibility," Yingzi said, sounding a bit agitated.
Fei Hu shook his head helplessly and fell silent. This matter indeed required him to think carefully.
For an entire afternoon, Yingzi sat beside Fei Hu, but they hardly exchanged a few words because she could see that Fei Hu was troubled like never before. Since that was the case, she decided to let him think it over by himself.
Time passed slowly, and suddenly Fei Hu stood up in agitation. He coldly told Yingzi, "I want to go out for a walk; just leave me alone." With that, he turned and walked away.
"Hmph! There are people looking for you everywhere outside; just be careful," Yingzi called after him as she chased him out.
Fei Hu walked out of the villa area. This was the suburbs; although the environment was beautiful and the roads were wide, there were hardly any vehicles passing by, let alone any Rental cars.
"Get in! I'll give you a ride for a bit," came a voice as Yingzi pulled up in her red Z4 behind Fei Hu.
With no other choice, Fei Hu got into the car. He stared out the window, completely ignoring Yingzi. Noticing his demeanor, Yingzi wasn't angry but gently said, "There are glasses and a hat in the trunk; you need to cover your face."
The car stopped at the entrance of the Overpass. Fei Hu didn't say anything as he jumped out of the car and found a black wide-brimmed hat and a pair of brown glasses from the trunk. Just as he was about to leave, a Xiaojie van suddenly stopped behind him, causing Fei Hu's expression to change.
