The sound of the airplane grew closer, and Fei Hu's heart began to race. He and Yingzi were crouched by two large trees, their eyes fixed on the mountain below, afraid even the slightest breeze would rustle the leaves and give away their position.
As expected by Yingzi, the moment the airplane noise started, a woman's chattering echoed from below. Soon, several armed women rushed up the mountain—one, two... Fei Hu silently counted in his mind, over twenty of them. Just as he was contemplating how to deal with the situation, two gunshots rang out. The first two women at the front fell to the ground; it turned out Yingzi had opened fire. It was truly remarkable that she could hit them from such a distance.
"What exactly do you do? Can you tell me? If I happen to meet my end here, it would be quite a regret," Fei Hu joked with Yingzi.
Yingzi glanced at Fei Hu, her eyes reddening as she said, "Stop talking nonsense. Once the airplane arrives, we can leave. As for my identity, I think you should be able to guess."
"Are you a police officer like Ni Ling?" Fei Hu asked softly.
At that moment, gunfire erupted from below almost simultaneously. Bullets whizzed past Fei Hu's head like locusts, and he hurriedly ducked behind the tree. The gunfire intensified and drew closer, indicating that the enemy was advancing step by step. The opposing firepower was overwhelming, making Fei Hu too afraid to raise his head.
What should he do? Fei Hu glanced at the large tree beside him, grabbed a branch, and leaped up with all his might. In just a few moments, he was atop the tree. The women below were desperately shooting at the spot where Fei Hu had been crouching moments ago. The poor old tree had its bark chipped away piece by piece, with some bullets penetrating deep into its trunk.
Standing between the branches of the tree, Fei Hu observed for a moment before cautiously peeking out. He raised his gun and fired at the woman who had rushed to the front. She staggered and froze with her gun raised for about two or three seconds before collapsing to the ground. Below, Yingzi gave Fei Hu a thumbs-up.
Seizing the opportunity while the enemy was momentarily stunned, Yingzi fired two more shots, taking down another two women. Fei Hu also took action from his perch in the tree, shooting down a woman on his left. With several of their comrades hit, the enemy momentarily lost their composure. From below came a familiar voice shouting: "Fei Hu, listen carefully! Even if we have to blow this mountain to smithereens today, you won't escape!" It was Wang Qian's voice; Fei Hu could hear her anger.
"Hey, what did you do to make her so mad last night, you big lecher?" Yingzi laughed at Fei Hu from below. Her ability to joke in such a tense atmosphere was truly impressive.
Fei Hu looked down at the mountain and saw that there was no immediate movement from the enemy. He urgently asked Yingzi: "You're a police officer and an undercover one at that, right?"
"Yes," she confirmed. "To be precise, I'm an Interpol agent specializing in drug enforcement. This time I’m working with Ni Ling on a domestic case involving a woman codenamed 'Auntie.' We've been tracking her for nearly three years now. We initially planned to take her down domestically but intentionally left her a way out to destroy her production base. We never anticipated that this woman would be so vicious as to kidnap Ye Xiaofei; that caught us off guard." Before Yingzi could finish her sentence, there were several loud explosions nearby.
Then came a massive blast beside them; Fei Hu felt a ringing in his head as his body floated downwards lightly. When he opened his eyes again, he found that the wild grass around him had been scorched. Yingzi was still crouched by a large tree; her handgun continued to fire sporadically while parts of her clothing were blown apart, revealing skin marred with blood in some areas.
Fei Hu thought to himself, "We can't go back." As this thought arose in his mind, he suddenly felt dizzy and lost consciousness.
When he woke up, Fei Hu found himself in Ye Xiaofei's embrace. He realized they were already on a helicopter, with mountains and forests rushing by beneath them. Fei Hu excitedly whispered, "Did we make it out, Yingzi?"
Seeing Fei Hu awake, Ye Xiaofei leaned down with tears in her eyes and smiled, "Yes, we are safe now. Yingzi is working with Interpol to take down their stronghold." Upon hearing this, Fei Hu smiled and drifted back to sleep.
After several twists and turns, Fei Hu and Ye Xiaofei finally landed smoothly at A City's International Airport.
On that day, they were truly happy. Ye Cheng and Sister Wu, accompanied by Brother Dong, personally came to pick them up, along with many employees from Sheng Wei.
Having experienced life and death, they realized how precious life is. Ye Xiaofei changed her previously proud demeanor and became completely obedient to Fei Hu, her gentleness leaving him at a loss for words.
After resting for less than two days, Ye Xiaofei returned to work. Fei Hu also had many matters waiting for him to handle. Without managing a household, one does not know the value of resources. It turned out that managing a large gang involved so much knowledge. With thousands of people in the gang, daily expenses were no small figure. The Dragon Tiger Gang had a new leader now; Fei Hu couldn't just go around collecting protection fees every day.
Seeing that Fei Hu was not eating well, Ye Cheng chuckled and said, "Kid, are you worried about Yingzi?"
"No, Grandpa. Yingzi is with Interpol; she has received specialized training and is very capable. This operation involves many Interpol agents cooperating; she will be fine. What I'm most worried about now is the Dragon Tiger situation. With such a large gang and so many people, if not managed properly, chaos will ensue immediately. It would be just like when Ye Wu was around—extortion and blackmail would resurface," Fei Hu said with concern in his eyes.
Ye Cheng habitually stroked his beard and said, "This is indeed a major incident. We can't let things go back to how they were before—fighting and scrambling every day. You need to come up with a new plan quickly; this burden is not light." As he spoke, Ye Cheng sighed deeply; it seemed he didn't know how to handle this issue either.
Around two in the afternoon, the sun blazed down on the ground. There were few pedestrians outside, making the street feel quite deserted. Fei Hu sat in Ye Xiaofei's Z4 and dialed Ni Ling's number. The phone rang for a long time before Ni Ling finally answered, sounding unhappy: "Hello, Fei Hu? What do you want?"
What kind of question was that? Could he not call her if there was nothing going on? Fei Hu paused for a moment before chuckling lightly and said, "Am I bothering you? You don't seem happy. I just wanted to ask if Yingzi has returned yet; her business should have been wrapped up by now. Why haven't I heard anything?"
"I already told you; she is with Interpol. She has a lot of work to do and might not return right away. Besides, if she is on a mission, it’s inconvenient for her to call you," Ni Ling replied. Her words made Fei Hu feel uneasy; what was wrong with this woman?
Fei Hu patiently smiled and said, "We're all friends; that's why I'm concerned about her. Besides, I'm just asking about her situation; I think this shouldn't be too difficult for you."
"I'll be honest with you, Yingzi is just an undercover agent in the Ye Family. It's normal for her to have a good relationship with any of you because it helps her carry out her work. I think once her job is done, this relationship with you will come to an end, including with you. I wonder if you can understand what I'm saying," Ni Ling said coldly, hanging up the phone before Fei Hu could respond.
Sitting in the car, Fei Hu was momentarily stunned. What was wrong with her? Could it really be as she said, that once their case was closed, there would be no more connections among them? If that were true, the world was indeed a harsh place.
During dinner, Fei Hu looked unhappy. Xiao Fei glanced at Ye Cheng and Sister Wu, then smiled and asked Fei Hu: "What's wrong? Are you too tired lately? How about we have a few drinks tonight?"
"Good idea, Sister Wu, go get that good bottle of wine. Let's enjoy a couple of drinks tonight. It's been a while since I've had a drink with Fei Hu, and I really want to," Ye Cheng said cheerfully.
Everyone was enthusiastic, and Fei Hu couldn't refuse. Soon, Sister Wu brought out the wine and poured it for everyone. Suddenly, Sister Wu sighed and said, "It would be great if Yingzi were here. This girl has stayed with us for so long; who would have thought she was actually with Interpol? It's really unexpected."
"Who wouldn't be surprised? I can hardly believe it myself, but that's the truth. It doesn't matter if you don't believe it; I genuinely saw her as Brother Jin's granddaughter, just like I do with Xiaofei. However, this girl is quite sensible and has done a lot for me. When she comes back this time, I must thank her properly," Ye Cheng said while glancing at the distracted Fei Hu.
Ye Xiaofei gently asked Fei Hu: "Is something bothering you? If there's something on your mind, just say it. Holding it in is tough."
Taking a deep breath, Fei Hu recounted how she had called Ni Ling earlier that afternoon. Upon hearing this, Ye Xiaofei immediately got angry and exclaimed: "What's so impressive about that? She's just a police officer! Her words lack any warmth. Don't worry about it; let Grandpa find someone to ask directly. This isn't difficult at all."
"No, I think there's something strange about this. Officer Ni isn't like that," Fei Hu said thoughtfully.
Her words shocked everyone present. Ye Cheng quickly asked: "Strange? What's strange? If you have an idea, just say it."
"Is something happening to Yingzi, and is Ni Ling hiding it from us?" As soon as Fei Hu spoke those words, everyone fell silent.
