A little girl appeared first, looking very cute, around three hundred years old. Strangely, I felt she was familiar. She was practicing by the river when suddenly she was startled awake by a loud "bang." With her big watery eyes, she looked into the river, glancing left and right before deciding to go take a look, her cautious demeanor making her seem adorable. As she approached, she saw a Nine-Tailed Fox floating on the water's surface. She quickly pulled the fox out, and seeing it barely alive made her anxious, yet she didn't know what to do. All she could do was continuously supply the fox with Soul Energy.
A few days later, the fox transformed back into human form. He slowly opened his eyes but couldn't move due to pain. Upon seeing the little girl beside him, he immediately became alert and glared at her fiercely.
"You’re awake! That’s great!" the girl said happily. Ignoring the boy's fierce gaze, she calmly recounted what had happened.
"Thank you for saving me," the boy said quietly. The girl smiled again and asked him many questions. However, the boy remained silent because he was afraid—afraid that the girl might want to capture him as a magical beast. When the girl asked where his home was, he replied, "I don’t have a home."
With a sudden "wow," the girl began to cry. "I don’t have a home either; it’s just me."
The scene changed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, the boy and girl grew up. The boy was now the demon in the tower. It was clear they had a good relationship; they practiced and played together every day, and the initial sense of hatred gradually faded.
"When you’ve avenged yourself, let’s go into hiding and forget everything, okay?" It was the girl speaking; she had now become a sweet yet gentle mature spirit. It seemed that the boy had told her everything.
"Okay, when I become truly powerful, I will go back for revenge. You must wait for me to return," the boy said with a smile.
Then it changed again. When I could see clearly, the girl lay on the ground, close to death, while the boy covered in wounds was captured by two elders from their forbidden land.
"Don’t be sad; I won’t leave you. One day, I will find you," the girl said with a smile as she closed her eyes. The Male Demon shed blood tears filled with love and despair...
After watching this, darkness returned. Looking at the Male Demon before me made my heart ache as if it were being squeezed. I wanted to help him; regardless of whether it was right or wrong, I wanted to help him escape from here.
"Nine Charm, how can I help you leave this place?" I asked him.
"Nine Charm? How do you know my name is Nine Charm? No one knows it; only she knew this name," the Male Demon looked at me in disbelief.
I didn’t know either; it just slipped out: "Oh, I must have heard it when I entered your past just now. Hehe, your name is Nine Charm; hehe Sister Jiu."
The Male Demon restored his original expression, filled with sadness.
"I am a Half-Demon, with the appearance of a ghost and the essence of a monster, and I am also a mutation. They won't let me go outside to grow stronger. You might not understand, but only those of the same race can reproduce, and I am precisely a combination of two races. They keep me locked up here to obtain my inner core; if I die, the inner core will disappear, so they are still trying to find ways to acquire that power."
"Then how did I end up here?"
"I have been searching for so long, but their souls cannot enter this place. Only you are different; I sensed your presence as soon as you arrived. I have been trying to draw you here, intending to test it out, but I didn't expect those Old Buddies to be completely oblivious. Hahaha, I'm about to get out."
"What about the mark?"
"That is an ancient and mysterious power. Once a mark is formed between two parties, they are bound together for life. It is a mark I initiated towards you, meaning I entrust my life to you from now on. Once I recover, I will leave this place with you. You need to hurry and leave; no one can know about the mark."
"You wouldn't deceive me, would you?"
"I have already entrusted my life to you; my life and death are in your hands." He looked at me with determination.
"Will you follow me from now on?"
"For now, I will reside within your body. When you summon me, I will naturally appear. Once I become powerful, I will seek revenge. At that time, as long as you don't summon me, I will exist as an individual."
"Alright, when you no longer need to hide, I will return your freedom." By then, there would be no mark in the human realm.
"You should go back now; remember to leave this place."
The forbidden area was left with only Nine Charm. His expression was complex—joyful, confused, determined, and slightly sinister. Though his voice was not loud, it echoed clearly until it faded after the third repetition: "I'm sorry; even if I have to use you, I must take revenge." When he truly becomes strong one day, he would devour the marked party; only then could he be free. He did not believe that I would let him go because once I became powerful, I could choose to devour him. The power of the strong is full of temptation. At that moment, however, I did not realize this and chose to believe.
I returned to my room and reflected on what had happened; the name "Nine Charm" lingered in my mind persistently.
"Xi Meng, are you there?" It was Silver Moon Senior again. What happened?
I opened the door and saw Wild Ghost Senior as well, which made things awkward. "Please come in and have a seat, both of you," I quickly stepped aside to let them in.
"My Ghost Servant said you weren't here and searched for a long time without finding you. Where did you go?" Silver Moon and Wild Ghost sat on the sofa, with Wild Ghost still looking cold, while Silver Moon casually asked.
"Oh, I didn't go anywhere. I might have been too focused earlier and didn't hear," I pretended to organize my things, fearing that looking at them would reveal my lie.
"By the way, how has your training been going here?" Silver Moon didn't seem to mind.
"I went to the Illusion Realm again, but I failed at the second level's second challenge."
"That's already quite good. Get ready; we need to head back to the academy soon."
"Huh? Why?" In fact, I was overjoyed; I had been worried about how to leave. I suppressed my excitement.
"It was decided by the Elders to stop Dream City midway. By the way, don't slack off; there should be an Inter-Academy Competition soon after we return to the academy. I thought you would miss it, but now you'll just make it in time." I could tell Silver Moon was trying to change the subject, and I was glad I didn't have to ask further.
"Oh, I don't have much to prepare; I'm ready to go, Senior."
"Alright then, let's head back." It seemed like another hurried conclusion. I remembered Silver Moon mentioning that points could be exchanged for treasures. Considering my points from the last competition, I had about 140 points. Even the lowest-tier treasures wouldn't be enough. It seemed I'd have to come back later. However, when I returned here next time, it would be a completely different scene—of course, that's a story for another time.
