“Xi Meng, the competition has started.” I shivered at the sound; it was the Male Ghost. Why was he the one to notify me? There was no time to think about it now, so I quickly opened the door and smiled, “Senior, what brings you here? Let’s go.” 0

I had said it casually, but surprisingly, the Male Ghost replied, “Just passing by.” I nodded. After the first round of competition, all schools had a sufficient break, and with dedicated teachers providing Soul Power recovery, today’s Students were back in top form. 0

“Be careful out there.” Upon arriving at the venue, the Male Ghost coldly said before turning to leave. Watching his black silhouette fade away, I felt dazed. This was the first time he had actively spoken to me; it felt strange. As he walked further away, he seemed enveloped in loneliness, as if he were all alone… 0

“Xi Meng, come over here.” Nian pulled me into the team. The overall vibe of those Students seemed to have changed; they appeared much more subdued. However, they all stared at me as if I were a monster. I felt quite awkward under their gaze and could only turn to Nian beside me. 0

“It seems you all can understand now; being arrogant is fine if you have the capital for it. In competitions, background means nothing; strength is everything,” Nian said. The few Students lowered their heads. They were all top first-year students and probably faced a significant blow this time after always being treated like stars. While the Demon Emperor Silver Hall was indeed strong, their own arrogance was their greatest flaw. 0

“There’s still some time left; let me briefly explain things to you. The remaining academies in this round are Champion Academy, Azure Dragon Academy, Phoenix Academy, Dark Night Academy, and our academy. The real competition starts now; the first match was merely a test battle, and there might still be hidden strengths. I hope you all prepare carefully for your matches. I just went to draw lots; we got lucky this time—we don’t have to compete in the first round. After those four academies finish battling, the one with the lowest ranking will face us. We must win this match.” Nian took a deep breath. 0

“Attention all academies, please prepare yourselves; participating Students please take your positions immediately.” The male host's voice rang out, and the noise quieted significantly. 0

“Champion Academy versus Dark Night Academy, Azure Dragon Academy versus Starshine Academy, the matches begin.” 0

I sat in the resting area, carefully observing the four academies. What caught my attention was Consecutive Champion against Dark Night; I had a feeling something was about to happen. The Consecutive Champion sent out a boy—tall with an exceptionally delicate face—his demeanor did not resemble that of a commoner at all. He stood quietly on stage; it seemed he hadn’t participated in previous matches. Dark Night sent out an extremely ordinary-looking creature with a short stature, small ears on his head, sharp fangs protruding from both sides of his mouth, and a pair of black wings behind him—a fully formed bat demon with deep red Soul Energy already visible. 0

“Chiba,” announced the Male Student from Champion Academy. 0

“Black Robe,” replied the bat demon with a slightly sharp voice. 0

What? I widened my eyes; the Male Student from Consecutive Champion was actually an Intermediate Warrior? This was too fast for a normal first-year student! How could that be possible? I looked at Nian and found her frowning as well. No wonder that elder from Consecutive Champion was so confident. If it weren’t for me, he would indeed have been assured of victory. 0

The bat demon launched an attack first, moving swiftly and reaching in front of the Male Ghost in an instant. The ghost didn’t even move; just as the bat was about to strike him, a flash of white light surrounded him. Before I could see how he countered, that bat demon was knocked back effortlessly—an obvious victory for him. I was puzzled; could he really just be an Intermediate Warrior? Under such overwhelming pressure, Dark Night Academy was overwhelmed three to one until the fourth Student took the stage—a figure clad in black robes with a pale face but rosy lips and blood-red eyes that looked familiar to me—I must have seen him somewhere before. He resembled Nine Charm, but while Nine Charm had an alluring beauty as a demon, this one felt more ghostly; just one glance could pull someone into an abyss of despair. “Kurozawa,” his magnetic voice resonated as he released his Soul Energy. 0

My heart tightened; it was that kind of Killing Intent. The Dark Aura he emitted felt so familiar, and I stared at him intently. Although he was just a low-level warrior, his presence put some pressure on Chiba. He quietly watched Chiba, softly singing something, as a wave of black mist slowly enveloped Chiba. Although he had already expended some Soul Power earlier, Chiba now seemed utterly powerless, standing frozen in place. He appeared to want to struggle, his eyes revealing his unwillingness, until he closed them, his body trembling as the surrounding black mist grew thicker. With a roar, Chiba collapsed. As the black mist dissipated, the barrier also vanished. The teacher from the Consecutive Champion rushed to the stage first, looking at Chiba lying there completely covered in black. He trembled as he looked up at the highest point of the stands, where the elderly man who had spoken earlier during the Consecutive Champion's address had risen, surrounded by other elders who looked equally incredulous. 0

"I request that the elders severely punish Dark Night Academy," said the dean of Champion Academy in a deep voice, almost icy. 0

"Hmph, the rules only state that killing your opponent is prohibited; your son is still breathing," replied the dean of Dark Night Academy, the third elder who had spoken before the match. Indeed, he was cunning and ruthless in his actions. 0

"Stop talking nonsense! Everyone knows that while this Dark Aura may not be lethal, even if Chiba wakes up, he will have no combat ability left." The dean of Consecutive Champion seemed agitated. Hearing this shocked me; I had underestimated the power of this Dark Aura. Such a vicious tactic would only be used for self-preservation; otherwise, I would never resort to it. 0

"If you have the guts to act tough here, you should focus on saving your son," said the dean of Dark Night Academy, looking smugly at the dean of Consecutive Champion without a hint of remorse. 0

"Next." It was then that a boy named Kurozawa spoke up. The students from Consecutive Champion had been in a daze until one strong Male Student rushed forward after hearing him. 0

"Even if I know I'm weaker than you, I still want to stand up for my captain; Champion Academy has no cowards." His words ignited all the students from Consecutive Champion, even those in the stands stood up and shouted loudly. 0

"Everyone shut up; Consecutive Champion forfeits this match." The dean of Consecutive Champion flashed to the Duel Arena, seemingly unwilling to accept defeat. He quietly crouched down and began releasing Soul Energy into Chiba's body. It was futile; although I didn't know where Kurozawa had obtained such power, its dominance wouldn't be easily dispelled—not even by Kurozawa himself—unless... unless I used Pure Sound. 0

I stood up, but Nian pulled me back and whispered, "You might expose yourself." 0

I looked at Nian and paused before saying, "I can't be so selfish; otherwise, I'll despise myself in the future." 0

I walked toward the Duel Arena. "Can I give it a try?" After all, Kurozawa's power was still not strong enough; this was just basic. I could feel many gazes focused on me. The dean of Champion Academy looked at me and asked, "Are you from Demon Emperor Silver Hall?" I nodded and gazed at the elder before me, unconsciously thinking of my father. If I could never return, he would surely be heartbroken; my dad is my mountain. 0

"What will you do?" He looked at me, clearly trying hard to calm his emotions. 0

I approached Chiba and took his hand. A milky white light radiated from my body. Strangely enough, strands of black mist began to enter my body from Chiba—not exactly entering but being absorbed by me. When I purified that Gorilla in Dream City before, it felt completely different. Although the Killing Intent from that wild spirit was strong, it couldn't compare to this black aura. The amount of black mist within Chiba wasn't much compared to mine; however, that power within me seemed eager to absorb it while Pure Sound continuously purified and rejected it. Nevertheless, I didn't feel particularly uncomfortable. 0

I opened my eyes. Huh? I clearly absorbed all of Chiba's Dark Aura, so why isn't he awake yet? Is there still an injury somewhere? I lowered my head and carefully examined his body. Just then, Chiba suddenly opened his eyes, and I was stunned. Looking at his face, which seemed to be magnified by about five centimeters, I felt my face heat up. 0

"You, you, you," I stammered, unsure of what to say. 0

"Do you want to get up first?" Chiba quietly reminded me. I jumped up awkwardly, not knowing what to do. Suddenly, the surroundings became noisy, just as I expected. 0

"Thank you," Chiba said as he looked at me. 0

Before I could respond, his father lost his earlier sternness and excitedly asked, "How are you, Chiba?" 0

"I'm fine, Father, just a bit tired," Chiba replied. 0

"That's good to hear. Thank you, young lady," Chiba's father smiled at me, and I shyly looked away. He then announced loudly, "This year, Champion Academy will forfeit the academy competition." As expected, the noise around us grew even louder. 0

"Father, I—" Chiba started to speak but was interrupted by his father. He patted his son's shoulder and said, "It's not because of you. Alright, go rest for now." After saying that, he gave me a meaningful glance. 0

I also stepped down from the stage and accidentally caught sight of the boy named Kurozawa. He was looking at me too, but I didn't think much of it; we were about to compete. I nodded at him and walked away. 0

"You did great, Xi Meng," Nian said as she came to my side and took my hand with a smile. 0

"Ladies and gentlemen, please remain quiet. The next round of matches will continue; all Students please take your positions," the male host's voice rang out again. Thankfully, the surroundings quieted down. 0

"Next up is Starshine Academy. Xiao Zhan, you go first," Nian said to one of the Male Students on our side; he was the one who had been quite arrogant before and indeed had considerable strength. 0

"The match begins." 0

“Xiao Zhan.” “Stars.” The opponent was a sweet-looking little girl, she seemed so small. 0

… Such a debate was relatively easy for Demon Emperor Silver Hall, after all, there were no requirements for cooperation, so Xiao Zhan stepped down only after defeating two opponents. Our next Student came on stage and also took down two, but in the end, the opponent who came in was a Chubby Kid, clearly the final act. 0

“Xi Meng, you go.” Nian suddenly said. 0

I walked up to the Duel Arena. “Xi Meng.” I registered first, and then I noticed that the Chubby Kid in front of me looked like a little bear, with a pair of round eyes that seemed quite innocent. 0

“Sun.” After the Chubby Kid finished registering, he shyly smiled. I nodded at him and smiled back. 0

Releasing Soul Energy, he was a beginner warrior, which seemed decent. However, when the light gray Soul Energy enveloped me, the entire venue fell silent. I looked at the Chubby Kid across from me; he stared at me with his lantern-like eyes and nervously pointed a trembling hand at me, stuttering, “You, you, you…” but couldn’t get any words out. Finally, the referee announced the start of the match, and this guy said, “Wait.” 0

I looked at him curiously. 0

“I protest, Demon Emperor Silver Hall is cheating; this is impossible!” said the Chubby Kid. How frustrating; I had just thought he was cute. 0

“Hmph, would my Ronda Family do such a thing?” Before I could respond, Grandpa Ronda in the stands had already spoken. Given his status in the underworld, he indeed looked down on such actions, so his words silenced many. The expression on the face of the Chubby Kid in front of me was complex. The referee announced the start of the match again. 0

“Wait.” The Chubby Kid said again. What was he trying to do? 0

“What’s wrong now, Student?” the referee asked kindly. 0

“I… I forfeit.” 0

Huh? No way; I really didn’t expect this kind of outcome. So now we ended with such a funny conclusion; did we win? 0
