This was my second time here, and the sense of oppression was still so strong. I vaguely felt that something was about to happen this time.
As I walked into the Elders' office again, I was taken aback; my guess was right, there was indeed something waiting for me. All the principals and deans from various schools who had been in the stands were sitting here. Of course, I wouldn't be foolish enough to think they were here to reward me. The Elder from Dark Night Academy had a glint of malice in his eyes, which he tried to conceal, but I noticed it.
"Greetings, Elders." I respectfully bowed to them; given the situation, I had to show some respect.
"Well, Xi Meng, let me get straight to the point. The purpose of calling you here is to give you a chance to explain. Although you did not kill that Student, you severely injured him. The principal of Dark Night Academy insists on punishing you." The one speaking was the Grand Elder I had met before; it seemed he already knew about the competition.
"I truly couldn't control myself at that moment; it wasn't intentional."
"What a joke! You didn't know what the consequences would be? I'm not going to make it difficult for you; as long as you forfeit your Soul Power, we can consider it even." The spherical and sinister principal said with an air of generosity.
"Hmph, weren't you the ones who injured my son back then? If it weren't for this young lady, Chiba would have been dead long ago. Speaking of which, I should hold you accountable." The principal of Champion Academy spoke up in my defense; I was surprised he would help me and looked at him gratefully.
"Isn't your son doing well now? Fine, even if we were wrong, Kurozawa has also been punished; he lost all his Soul Power. Shouldn't this young lady face the same fate?"
"Alright, Xi Meng, let's call this even. I think we should drop this matter." Grandpa Ronda said. He nodded and smiled at me, signaling that I shouldn't worry.
"It's easy for you to say; I won't let this go so easily." The principal of Dark Night Academy was very adamant. There was no way I would allow him to strip me of my Soul Power; otherwise, everything would be in vain. But with his determination, what should I do?
"In my opinion, Xi Meng indeed caused significant harm to a Student from Dark Night Academy. If Xi Meng chooses to stay at the academy, then I will personally strip her of her Soul Power. After all, she is a Student from our academy; I will keep her for five years and arrange for her upon graduation." The Grand Elder spoke; wasn't he clearly trying to ruin me? Even if I could graduate from here, I'd still be nothing. When they come to pick me up later, they'd find me as someone who achieved nothing.
"No! I disagree." I mustered my courage; although I had no right to speak here, there was no way I would agree to that.
"Don't rush; I'm not finished yet." The Grand Elder shook his head and continued: "However, if Xi Meng chooses to leave the academy, then we cannot punish her any further; she will no longer belong here or to Demon Emperor Silver Hall."
It seemed that this time I had no choice but to leave; it was just so hard to part with Xiaopu, Sister Nian, and many others.
"I disagree! If she leaves, wouldn't that mean there is no punishment?" The principal of Dark Night Academy still wouldn't let me go. Strange—did he have a grudge against me?
"Hmph, you have no say in this. If you oppose again, we will call that esteemed person. How would you handle the situation if Xi Meng's Soul Power was wasted in front of him?" Grandpa Ronda said, referring to the prisoner. The headmaster of Dark Night Academy surprisingly shut his mouth, his expression dark as he nodded in agreement.
"Alright, Xi Meng, you should go now. Leave here tomorrow," the Grand Elder said. I looked at him, suddenly feeling a pang of sadness. Am I really leaving? I bowed to the Elders once more. Before I left, I caught a glimpse of the meaningful exchange between the Grand Elder and Grandpa Ronda.
"Even if Xi Meng is no longer a Student of Demon Emperor Silver Hall, she will not leave our protection. Anyone who dares to have ill intentions is courting death," said the Third Elder. The heads of various academies gradually departed, leaving only the Three Elders and Ronda.
"Isn't that Old Buddy from Dark Night Academy usually the most cowardly one? Why has his attitude changed so drastically today?" Ronda pondered aloud.
"It seems he still has high-level backing," the Grand Elder speculated.
"Could it be her?" asked the Second Elder.
"Possibly. It looks like Xi Meng's path won't be easy," Ronda sighed.
"I have faith in that child. Besides, she won't be alone on her journey; those Little Ones have had plans for a long time, haven't they? It seems everything was anticipated by you, big brother," said the Second Elder, smiling at the Grand Elder.
"She will be eliminated sooner or later," the Third Elder remarked before disappearing. The remaining three shook their heads and left as well.
In truth, I wasn't very shocked; it could be described as intuition—defying fate seems to help me. At the appointed time, I returned to that place and leaned against a tree waiting for him.
"Excuse me, are you Xi Meng?" I turned around to see a student who appeared slightly older than me standing there, looking ordinary. I nodded at him.
"Follow me; it’s Ni Tian who sent me to pick you up."
"Thank you." I quietly followed behind him. Demon Emperor Silver Hall was vast; I mostly moved around a few small corners and didn't know how large it truly was. However, I could tell that the path we were taking was unfamiliar to me, with not a single other student in sight.
"Where are we going?" I couldn't help but ask.
"We're heading to the student-only area; only select students enjoy this privilege." Soon we arrived at a large gate, which slowly opened to reveal a small estate inside. We walked up to a castle where the student stopped. He opened the door for me to enter and then turned to leave.
As soon as I entered, I saw a few familiar figures: Silver Moon, Wild Ghost, and Against Heaven. There was also a girl who looked quite delicate, appearing slightly older than me. Another person I didn't recognize had his back to me. Indeed, things were not that simple.
"You've arrived, Xi Meng," Silver Moon greeted me first. I sighed and prepared myself mentally before walking towards them.
"Please sit down. If you have any questions, feel free to ask," said Against Heaven, gesturing to the seat beside him. I did not sit down.
"Could you please introduce everyone to me?" I said helplessly.
"That's right, this is Flower Tears," Against Heaven said, looking at the girl. She smiled lightly, giving off a fragile impression. Perhaps it was her name or her appearance that seemed to carry a hint of sadness.
"This is White Soul; Flower Tears and he have been together since childhood." It turned out that the figure I had seen from behind looked like this: he had white hair and wore white clothes, even his lips were pale. He kept his eyes closed and remained silent, exuding an ethereal presence. I felt awkward and didn't know what to say.
"Don't mind him; White Soul usually keeps his eyes closed and rarely speaks. Just take your time getting to know him; he's not difficult to get along with," Silver Moon said.
"I have many questions. How did you all come together? Why did Against Heaven concede during the competition? What exactly are you planning?" These were my most pressing concerns.
"The situation is quite complicated. Sit down; we will explain everything to you slowly," Silver Moon replied. I nodded and sat next to Against Heaven.
I don't know how much time passed while I remained in a daze. Silver Moon spoke in detail, but I really needed some time to digest the information.
They were planning something significant—a plan to overthrow the current ruler, Siyimo. The underworld was not as peaceful as I had thought; Siyimo was Silver Moon's aunt. Silver Moon's mother was the daughter of the previous Ghost King leader and passed the position to Silver Moon's father after marrying him. However, not long after, the aunt whom Silver Moon adored changed; she gradually consolidated power in secret and plotted schemes. By the time Silver Moon's father discovered everything, it was already too late. At that point, Silver Moon's parents decided to pass the throne to their eldest son—Silver Moon's brother—but Siyimo assassinated him. Subsequently, Silver Moon's parents were imprisoned and publicly declared that they had abdicated, leaving everything regarding the Demon Clan in Siyimo's hands. Since the Demon Clan held a dominant position in the underworld, chaos was likely to ensue; no one knew what Siyimo intended to do. Silver Moon's existence was merely a way to temporarily appease those elders who were unaware of the truth and remained loyal to Silver Moon's father. However, Silver Moon learned of it all and pretended not to know anything on the surface while secretly searching for the prophesied companions.
"A friend of my father's once told us that he predicted a catastrophe would befall the underworld, and the only hope was to find my destined companion. This ring I have is what he left behind; it will heat up when I meet that person. I've been waiting for a very long time."
"Actually, I'm just focused on improving myself so I can return home quickly." My responsibility was to save humanity. Now I was being asked to prevent a crisis in the underworld; I simply couldn't bear it.
"Xi Meng, let me finish speaking. Do you think my aunt's plan is merely to become the ruler of the underworld? No, her ambition is to expand it; she wants to devour all living beings from the human realm. Do you still think you can stay out of this? She aims to destroy the human world!"
What should I do? Did Prisoner know about this? I really wished he were by my side telling me what I should do next.
"What should we do? Our strength is too small right now," I said bitterly.
"So, we decided to go out. Only in the outside world can we truly grow, even in a place filled with slaughter and danger."
"Okay, I understand."
"You must remember, once you choose, you cannot regret it. In the outside world, you will have no protection; the only ones you can trust are ourselves." The Wild Ghost sitting in the corner suddenly spoke. After being here for so long, this was the first thing he said.
"I understand. Then, why did you concede that day?"
"It seems you're really curious. Since you want to know, I'll tell you. I didn't come to compete; I came to declare war. My race had protected me too well before, and our hatred towards Siyimo runs too deep. The reason the Dragon Clan has become what it is now is all thanks to her. But I've decided not to endure any longer; I want revenge." At this moment, there was no elegance left in him; he was filled with killing intent. I didn't know what had happened back then, but I didn't ask. Now, it seemed he didn't want to say more.
"Aren't you afraid of those greedy ones taking action against you? I don't believe you haven't noticed the way they look at you."
"They won't act against me for now. Greed knows no bounds; as long as they want more, they won't do anything to me. Besides, if I couldn't protect myself, I wouldn't be here like this."
"With us being so blatant now, don't you have any concerns? Siyimo will find out sooner or later, right?" I'm not timid; with Siyimo's spies around, they wouldn't miss our little movements.
"That's why we need to buy time. Siyimo has already reached the level of Supreme Lord. The news I've received is that she is currently in seclusion, fully focused on breaking through the last layer. If she succeeds, then there will be no one in the Underworld who can rival her. Her Soul Power is very sinister; no one has ever seen her make a move, so no one knows her weaknesses."
She is that strong? I couldn't even see a hope of us winning. However, recalling what Snow Spirit once told me: "You must become stronger. When you encounter a ghost named Siyimo, you must kill her. As long as she remains imprisoned, the knot will never be untied." But if I really killed her, would Prisoner feel pain? Would he hate me? Thinking of this made my heart feel a bit strange.
