After a period of travel, the descent began. The scene before us was unfamiliar yet carried a sense of familiarity. It was somewhat desolate here, with not a trace of demons or spirits in sight. Surrounding us were towering mountains formed of rock, each one a sheer cliff, with the black stones emanating an eerie aura. We navigated through the mountains. I noticed that something was off with him; ever since he entered this place, his expression had been serious, which only fueled my curiosity about this area. White Soul remained with his eyes closed, yet his speed did not falter. Our journey went relatively smoothly, and we did not encounter any formidable opponents. We stopped in a relatively flat area; prolonged walking still consumed Soul Power, so everyone decided to take a break.
"Let's rest here for today and move forward tomorrow. I'll go check the surroundings," his voice came out somewhat low. Although it consumed Soul Power, it was still early—why rest now? I didn't voice my thoughts but silently walked toward him. Silver Moon and the Wild Ghost looked at me in confusion, and I smiled and shook my head before moving away.
"This is Dark Corner," he said, facing away from me. He stood on a protruding rock at the cliff's edge, as if he could float away at any moment. I slowly stood beside him, gazing at his profile.
"You are familiar with this place, aren't you?"
"This is where all the races of the Demon Dragon reside—not just that; it's also where we are imprisoned," he replied flatly, without any fluctuation in his voice.
"Then how did you leave here?"
"This place is sealed by those high-and-mighty gods' spells; you can feel it, can't you? That aura. The Demon Dragon Clan can never break through it, but I possess half Dragon Clan blood, so I am one of the few dragons who can leave this place. Tragically, those greedy demons and spirits outside have been eyeing the Demon Dragon Clan for centuries, constantly coming here to hunt us down—this is Siyimo's doing! Some are captured as magical beasts, while others are skinned and dismembered for potions or weapons. The strong members of the Demon Dragon Clan are dwindling; here they cannot exert their true power and are hunted down for their inner cores before being left as carcasses in the wilderness."
It turned out that this seemingly calm boy bore responsibilities no less than mine. "So you are their hope."
He chuckled lightly, "Yes, I am the hope of all the elders of the dragon clan. But what does that matter? Even if I die, it would be useless. Fortunately, I met Silver Moon and you all. If Silver Moon becomes the Ghost King, that would be the most beneficial outcome for us. If we succeed this time, at least I can protect my kin from being hunted."
"So moving forward is where you all reside?"
"Yes, having been away for so long, I'm actually a bit afraid of what it looks like inside." He closed his eyes and slightly furrowed his brow.
"But we are still here; once we find the Life Stone, we will be one step closer to success. Think about it—you have been striving for your people."
"I have a question I've been wanting to ask you," said the Unruly One as he turned to look at me.
"What is it? Go ahead."
"Do you feel familiar with the atmosphere here?"
Hearing the Unruly One say this, I realized that I had indeed felt a sense of familiarity as soon as I arrived. "Yes, but I don't know why."
"This place is the darkest of the three realms, and that's precisely why we are imprisoned here. It can be said to be the greatest Water's Nemesis of the Demon Dragon, and it exerts a certain suppression over any race. This power is strange yet formidable. Very few can wield it, but I can sense its presence within you."
No wonder the Dark Aura within me was so excited; it turns out this is its source. It seems that both I and Nine Charm were mistaken. Could it be that the Demon Abyss is even more terrifying than this?
"Do you know what it actually is?"
"No, I do not."
"Is it okay to go further? Can Silver Moon Senior and the others handle it?"
"You underestimate them too much. Since they haven't said anything, I can't tell you either. No one in this team lacks a backstory."
"That's true. Alright, let's head back." The Unruly One nodded and we returned.
The next day, we continued our journey deeper inside, and the Dark Aura grew heavier. At first, my Pure Sound within me resisted and kept circulating, but later it became completely still. It seemed that in this place filled with Dark Aura, it had stopped struggling. Perhaps another type of Dark Aura within me allowed me to adapt better here, eliminating the need for Pure Sound to keep purifying. Overall, my body showed no unusual signs for now.
We reached the summit of a massive mountain and paused. This might be the highest point of Dark Corner, and I could clearly see everything around me. Especially not far away on a black rock were two blood-red characters: "Dragon Cave." I finally understood why the Unruly One said he was afraid to come here; this place could only be described as "tragic." In my memory, dragons were so sacred; even in the demon realm, they were always exalted. But before me lay a black wasteland with a gigantic dragon carcass half-buried in the sand.
"We've arrived; this is our place to stay. Although I'm not sure of the exact location of the Life Stone, it's still safer to stay inside," said Xiantian, breaking the silence as he noticed the surprised expressions on my senior companions.
Upon entering the Dragon Cave, I still didn't see any sign of dragons. Just then, an old man with a head full of white hair appeared before us. He hunched over, and if it weren't for the circumstances, I wouldn't have sensed that he was actually a dragon.
"Young Master, you have returned," the old man said respectfully to Xiantian.
"Elder Bai, thank you for your hard work all this time," Xiantian replied.
"It's good that the Young Master is back. We old bones don't know how much longer we can hold on. Fortunately, you sent word back; otherwise, my second brother would have been worried sick."
"I had a purpose for going out this time. These are my companions; they are here to help us. Elder Jin, please gather all the elders in the Black Horn Hall to discuss further."
"Yes, Young Master."
The Black Horn Hall is where the rulers of the Demon Dragon Clan have resided throughout history. It is the most magnificent place in Dark Corner, contrasting sharply with the outside world. The hall is divided into three levels and lacks extravagance; most of it is iron and silver in color, giving it a somewhat cold appearance. Xiantian led us to a large hall, and soon after, the Five Elders entered.
"Everyone, please take a seat. Five Elders, these are my companions. Now that we've reached this point, I believe our only hope lies in resistance. They are our hope!" Xiantian said excitedly. Afterward, he introduced each of us by name but did not mention our backgrounds. The initial disdain from the Five Elders shifted to surprise. White Soul, Silver Moon, and Wild Ghost were all high-ranking members of Nether Sect; my status as a junior Reaper was indeed hard to imagine. However, what surprised me was Flower Tears—not because she was strong but because she was only a junior Death Warrior. Given her age, she should be similar to White Soul and the others, perhaps even older than me and Xiantian; thus, there must be some special significance about her.
"Good, good! It seems this era now belongs to your generation; we really are getting old," said the elder we had met earlier. "I am Mercury Three-Pattern Dragon; you can call me Elder Bai."
"This is my aunt; she is Jade Seven-Hole Dragon and a Jade Elder of our clan," Xiantian continued from Elder Bai's introduction. Although this Jade Elder dressed simply, she indeed appeared gentle and refined.
"This is Unicorn Earth Dragon, Elder Hong," said another elder who was slightly plump with a horn on his head.
"This is Elder Xiang from Sky Dragon Clan." It was evident that this elder had a pair of wings behind him.
"This is the Blazing Red Dragon, Elder Fire." It was clear that this elder had a bad temper, and his appearance exuded an intense fiery aura, with even his hair being red.
"To be honest, there are significant conflicts and divisions within the Demon Dragon Clan right now. Our Golden Glass Dragon numbers are very few, and it is only thanks to the Five Elders that I have been able to hold on until now."
"Young Master, please do not say that. Only you can save our Demon Dragon Clan." After saying this, the Five Elders stood up together, respectfully looking at the protagonist.
"Five Elders, please sit down. I will fulfill my promises. We are here today mainly to search for something. Over the past thousand years, have any of the elders felt anything unusual in this area?"
"To be honest, Young Master, our dragon clan has been imprisoned here for generations. The dark energy here is overwhelming, and we cannot fight against it at all. Its presence is everywhere, making it difficult to notice anything different," Elder Xiang of the Sky Dragon Clan said.
Immediately, everyone in the hall began to frown; it was already so difficult at the start. At this moment, I felt a bit hesitant. There was a sense that I vaguely sensed the Life Stone; its aura was unique, and I seemed to have some connection with it.
"Silver Moon Senior, I think I might know its location." I hesitantly spoke up; rather than searching aimlessly, it would be better to follow my intuition.
"Are you serious? How did you sense it?" Silver Moon asked excitedly.
"I can't be sure. When you showed it to me before, its aura left a deep impression on me. I can vaguely feel its location."
"Quickly tell us where it is!" The protagonist urged eagerly.
"It's at the center of Dark Corner, but I also sense that it's the strongest place of Dark Aura."
"We can't worry about that now; everyone take a rest today and we'll set off first thing tomorrow!" Silver Moon declared.
"No, we can't go there!" Just when everyone had a glimmer of hope, Jade Elder spoke up. I looked at her and noticed that even the four elders beside her had serious expressions. As we were puzzled, Jade Elder slowly began to speak.
"Ever since the Demon Dragon Clan was imprisoned, everyone has been unwilling to accept their fate, constantly searching for a way out. However, they have repeatedly failed. One day, one of our ancestors followed the dark energy and discovered a place; he was one of the most powerful beings among the dragon clan at that time. But later, he returned with just enough breath to speak. He said we would be forever trapped here and could never escape. He repeatedly emphasized not to go to the center of the Dark Corner, never! It is like a cursed place. However, a few brave dragons still ventured there and never returned. Gradually, it became a forbidden area for us."
Everyone fell silent; it seemed that things were not as simple as we had thought. "Those afraid of death can stay behind. Tomorrow, I will go," Wild Ghost said lightly before heading upstairs. The silent White Soul and Flower Tears also stood up and followed him. Yes, this is Wild Ghost Senior. I smiled slightly and got up. I wanted to go outside for a walk; the atmosphere outside gave me an indescribable sense of comfort. After walking for a while, I realized that even this could help me accumulate Soul Energy; it seemed there were indeed many secrets here.
"Why aren't you resting? Tomorrow won't be as simple as before," said Silver Moon, who had also come out.
I shook my head and replied, "I really like the atmosphere here."
"Ha!" Silver Moon actually laughed.
He sighed and said, "It seems you are truly not an ordinary person."
"Just lucky," I said. While I liked it, I couldn't feel happy looking at the scene before me.
"Do you know? This place has another name besides Dark Corner," Silver Moon seemed to share the same sentiment as he sighed.
"What is it?" I asked curiously.
"…The Forgotten Place."
