Before setting off, the Five Elders gave many instructions. If it weren't for the need for their suppression here, they would have left with us long ago. However, now there are many guards accompanying us; the Jade Elder arranged for twenty skilled fighters to follow us. The team is led by a pair of siblings: the brother named Thunder stands around two meters tall, with a strong muscular build and wings that are much larger than those of his kin. His sister is named Qingfeng; although she is not as robust as her brother, she is quite tall at over one meter ninety, with a delicate face that seems mismatched with her stature. They are the strongest in our group, at the intermediate level of the Lord of the Underworld. The conditions here only allow the Demon Dragon to survive; upgrading is quite difficult, so aside from the Five Elders, they are indeed the most outstanding.
The Demon Dragon primarily lives on the fringes of the Dark Corner, where the Dark Aura is relatively weaker. Currently, our route resembles a pattern on a snail's shell, spiraling towards the center. There are no shortcuts; towering mountains formed by Black Rock surround us, which even the Sky Dragon Clan cannot traverse, as if a barrier has been set above.
Along the way, everyone remained mostly silent as we six walked in the middle of the group. We had barely covered one-tenth of our journey when Thunder suddenly halted.
He shouted, "All units on alert!" Immediately, a circle formed around us six. The siblings stood outside the circle, looking serious and already in combat mode. At the same time, Silver Moon, Wild Ghost, Rebellious Heaven, and White Soul swiftly positioned themselves behind me and Flower Tears.
Sure enough, not long after, a small team appeared before us—only five ghosts—but based on their imposing aura, none of us underestimated them.
"It seems our luck is quite good this time; we encounter such fine prey right at the start," said a tall and thin Male Ghost from across, his tone dripping with confidence.
"Be careful, Third Elder; it's always you who ruins our good fortune," replied another Male Ghost.
"Everyone knows that here, how could their Dragon Clan possibly be our opponents? Brother Two, do you think they have any chance of escaping?"
"Shut up." The leader of the group, a stable-looking Male Ghost who appeared to be around twelve hundred years old with a face resembling that of a fifty-year-old man, spoke up. The previous two ghosts immediately fell silent.
"Your Highness, I didn't expect to encounter you here. We are from the Herlai Family of the Usul Tribe; I am Hemuo," he continued while respectfully bowing to Silver Moon.
"So it's a senior from the Herlai Family; I've heard much about you," Silver Moon replied calmly and elegantly without showing any signs of panic.
"I didn't expect Your Highness to have heard of our Herlai Family; it is truly an honor. May I ask why Your Highness is here today and accompanied by a group of Demon Dragons?" He was indeed an old fox, leaving no room for error. Everyone knows that while the Demon Dragon Clan holds no status in the Underworld, they are extremely mysterious; Silver Moon must be harboring a significant secret here.
Silver Moon remained silent but smiled lightly and said, "Does my business still need to be explained to seniors?" She maintained her elegance but her tone carried more weight.
"I wouldn't dare; it's just that my brothers and I came here to hunt dragons and feared we might disturb Your Highness's important matters." He immediately took a step back but still seemed eager to glean some information.
"There are indeed important matters at hand; however, I require some assistance from the Demon Dragon Clan. I hope you can accommodate me."
"This... we've been here many times as well; encountering such suitable prey is indeed somewhat regrettable."
"Hmph! You're just a minor royal prince; how dare you make us retreat? Don't think my brother giving you some face means you've gained any ground." The ghost referred to as Third Elder spoke up again.
"He Yun, be quiet and step back."
"Stop wasting time, let's get started," Thunder said.
"I propose this, Your Highness. The five of us against all of you. If we lose, we won't stop you from hunting dragons. If we win, we will leave. How about that?" Hemuo suggested. Even though it was 26 against 5, we still had no chance of winning. It was clear they were determined to obstruct us; this was merely giving Silver Moon a face-saving option.
"Alright, please give us some time to discuss," Silver Moon said calmly.
"Sure, take your time," Hemuo replied with a smile, waving his hand.
"It seems this is the only way. Everyone must use all their Soul Power; we only have one chance. Otherwise, we will undoubtedly lose. Now let's divide our roles: I, Wild Ghost, and four Demon Dragons will fight Boss He. Thunder and Qingfeng will take two Demon Dragons to battle He Er Er. White Soul and Flower Tears will lead four Demon Dragons against He Lao San. Against He Lao Si will be the four Demon Dragons led by Against Heaven. Xi Meng will take four Demon Dragons to face He Lao Wu." Silver Moon quickly assigned everyone their roles. We nodded in agreement.
"Remember, our chances are slim; if we can kill with the first strike, do it," Silver Moon reminded us at the end. Until now, I had always lived under protection; now life and death were at stake. As Sister Nian said, one day I would have to face slaughter; this was a necessary experience for my growth, especially in this 'survival of the fittest' world. Strangely, I felt calm; this was not the human realm, and I didn't need to harbor goodwill towards my opponents.
We removed the barrier. "It seems you are ready," Boss He said.
"Big Brother, stop talking nonsense with them and attack already," He Lao San seemed a bit impatient. They released their Soul Energy, and indeed none of them were weak. Boss He was a mid-level Saint of the Underworld, He Er Er was a junior Saint of the Underworld, He Lao San was also a junior Saint of the Underworld, He Lao Si was a mid-level Lord of the Underworld, and He Lao Wu was also a mid-level Lord of the Underworld. I had to admit they were too strong. No wonder they were so confident; our highest level was only a mid-level Lord of the Underworld.
"Attack!" Silver Moon shouted.
The four Demon Dragons immediately stood in front of me; they were only a few levels higher than me and were restrained by Dark Aura, making it impossible to deal with He Lao Wu.
"Come out, Little Pink." I summoned immediately; He Lao Wu showed no concern and continued to watch me mockingly—how infuriating. I summoned Bone Flute; in this place filled with Dark Aura, I had to play 'The Smile of the Spider Lily.' I smiled at the ghost before me and sent you a "sweet dream." I knew that when I played it, my brutal self would emerge.
As I expected, my power here became even more terrifying. Little Pink's Gold Thread had already wrapped around He Lao Wu; although it didn’t do much damage, that moment was enough. Gradually, He Lao Wu's smiling face turned into surprise and anger. It was useless; this was the terror of Dark Aura—once it began to resonate, it wouldn't stop until one side lost all fighting capability. I felt the overwhelming force from He Lao Wu; after all, our level difference was too great. If this continued, he would soon break free from me, and if that happened, being backfired would be equivalent to death.
We struggled for a long time; although He Lao Wu consumed quite a bit of Soul Power, his mental clarity remained sharp and he was about to break free. Suddenly he opened his eyes—dream awakened—and glared at me with malice as if he wanted to tear me apart.
At that moment, an idea struck me. What if I sang like Kurozawa did before without using any weapons and purely utilized Dark Aura? Bone Flute was an artifact from the divine realm; the magical tunes played on it inherently countered each other—it wasn't my full power. Time didn’t allow me to think further; it was now or never. But then I forgot one thing: without purification, I would lose my rational self.
I withdrew Bone Flute and began chanting Dark Song; as a product of darkness, let’s descend into darkness together with the ghost before me. Around me, endless energy surged into my body as if opening wide doors to accept them endlessly. Soon my body was filled with Dark Aura while Pure Sound was forced into a small corner.
"Surrender your soul to darkness; never awaken again—within dreams you shall have everything." The voice kept saying as I continued singing like a puppet.
"Ah!" He Lao Wu shouted, collapsing to the ground, dead. My singing also came to a halt, but the nameless restlessness within me did not cease. It kept insisting, not enough, not enough, not enough; it wanted more souls. I desperately tried to suppress that impulse as the Dark Aura within me grew stronger and stronger. At this rate, my body would eventually be torn apart.
I walked towards Ni Tian, who was in his true form at that moment, albeit heavily injured. The four Demon Dragons accompanying him were also lying on the ground. He Lao Si appeared to be in slightly better condition, but he was still gravely wounded. Just as He Lao Si was about to launch a final attack on Ni Tian, I stepped in front of him. Ni Tian had no ability to fight back; if he took that hit, it would be certain death.
Yet, without any defense, I took the blow head-on and was severely injured. However, I felt no pain at all; I couldn't control my own body. He Lao Si and Ni Tian looked stunned. I glanced at He Lao Si and smiled faintly as the Dark Song played again. Despite being injured, he had no capacity to resist. The terror on his face as he struggled satisfied the brutal side of me, and soon after, he died.
"Xi Meng, what happened to you?" Ni Tian regained his human form and stood there unsteadily, looking at me. In his eyes, I saw myself—blood-red hair, blood-red eyes, a fierce visage.
"Get away! I... can't control... myself... I... don't want... to hurt... you," I managed to say with great difficulty, clinging to the last remnants of my sanity.
At that moment, aside from Yin Yue and Ye Gui, everyone else had won but lay on the ground heavily injured and unable to fight any longer. They heard our voices and turned to look at us.
I hated this version of myself; I hated how Ni Tian and the others looked at me as if I were a monster. I'm helping you! I'm killing those ghosts! Why do you look at me like that? It's infuriating! I need to prove myself; I need to keep killing!
I rushed over to Yin Yue and Ye Gui. "Thunder, Qingfeng, stop Xi Meng quickly!" Ni Tian's voice came from behind me. Why stop me? I'm helping you! I forcefully pushed past the Thunder siblings; no one could stop me!
"Old ghost, you're mine now." I stood before Boss He. The usually arrogant Boss He was afraid for the first time when facing an opponent—not because of me directly but because he seemed to see another terrifying presence through me.
"Sleep now." Greedily and contentedly watching Boss He succumb to my song made me laugh maniacally. Is there more? Souls, fresh souls—I want to consume them! The voice echoed again. I turned around to look at my companions.
Suddenly, strong arms wrapped tightly around me. I struggled like a madman as he gently whispered in my ear, "You're tired; take a rest. When you wake up, everything will be fine." The voice was unfamiliar; I'd never heard it before. Who is it? And just like that, I fell asleep.
