Startled by my own thoughts, I wondered how I could think this way. The prisoner was still waiting for me to return to the human realm. No, I must have confused what I liked with what moved me. What I truly liked was the prisoner; from the very first glance, I was captivated!
"Come, Xi Meng." In a daze, I heard someone calling my name.
"Come, over here."
It was me in the illusion...
She gently waved at me, and glancing at the seemingly asleep Silver Moon beside her, I hesitated and shook my head.
She smiled and nodded, as if to say it was okay.
Compelled by some unseen force, I took steps toward them.
Before me, Silver Moon lay in slumber, a smile gracing his lips. Was he really that happy? Unable to help myself, I reached out to touch his sleeping face.
What am I doing?! I quickly withdrew my hand and looked at her beside me, smiling awkwardly.
She said nothing more but took my hand and placed it on her left chest. I didn’t understand; what did she mean by letting me feel her heart?
Then she smiled and vanished.
What is happening here?
I stood there foolishly, unsure of what to do.
Suddenly, Silver Moon's eyes opened wide as he called out urgently, "Xi Meng!"
I was startled. Did he realize that I was not the same person as before?
"Thank goodness you didn't leave!" Silver Moon exclaimed as he saw me standing nearby. He got up and hugged me tightly, seemingly afraid.
"It's okay, it's okay, I'm here," I said slowly, patting his back.
"I thought this was all a dream, and when I woke up, you would be gone," Silver Moon's voice carried a hint of sadness. Seeing him, once noble and elegant, now so fearful made me sigh. Was it really worth it?
"What's wrong? Are you unhappy?" Silver Moon released me and stared at my face.
"No, I'm fine."
"Then let's go home." With that, he took my hand and we left.
Home? Our home?
I felt a bit dazed, only able to move step by step alongside Silver Moon.
Eventually, Silver Moon stopped in front of a two-story villa with a garden. It was neither too big nor too small, looking very cozy, and inside there were my favorite little animals.
"Wait for me; I'll go make dinner," he said as he skillfully walked toward the kitchen to tie on an apron.
In that moment, I almost believed it was real. Everything felt so genuine, especially Silver Moon's smile.
I sat dazed on the sofa. After spending so long in the underworld, I found it hard to adjust to the human world again. When did I stop needing to eat? With this rare leisure time, I felt I couldn't relax at all.
"Xi Meng, dinner is ready; come eat," Silver Moon's voice was still so gentle.
I got up and walked to the dining table. I picked up chopsticks but couldn't manage to pick up any food, so I switched to a soup spoon instead. To be honest, I couldn't taste anything at all.
The meal went by quietly as I hesitated whether to speak. Watching Silver Moon immersed in happiness, I ultimately held my tongue.
"The bathwater is ready. After you finish, make sure to rest early," Silver Moon gently reminded me after dinner.
I nodded obediently. Everything seemed so normal, as if it had been repeating for a long time. I even began to forget where I was.
I moved like a robot, doing everything as Silver Moon instructed, afraid he would notice something different about me.
After finishing my bath, I paused for a moment. Where would I sleep tonight? I had no idea how she and Silver Moon had been getting along during this time.
I hesitated in the hallway, unsure which room to enter. Just then, Silver Moon came up the stairs and asked with a smile, "Aren't you going to sleep?"
I awkwardly smiled back, "I'll go right now." I turned around but didn't know where to step next.
"Wait." Silver Moon suddenly called out to me. Did he suspect something?
"What's with you today? Did you forget something?"
Forget something? What should I do? I didn't know.
"Sigh, how many times do I have to tell you before you remember?" With that, he took my hand and led me into the second bedroom on the left.
After I lay down on the bed, he gently pulled the blanket over me, carefully tucking it in until he was sure nothing was sticking out before letting go.
"I told you, you must see me before you sleep and be the first thing you see when you wake up."
Why? I was puzzled inside but couldn't ask.
"You once said your favorite phrase is 'to be born in the morning and die by night,' right? So no matter what happens to you, I'll always be the first one by your side."
"To be born in the morning and die by night" was indeed one of my favorite phrases. How should I treat Silver Moon's feelings?
"What if none of this is real?" I tentatively voiced my thoughts.
Silver Moon's gaze became distant, unfocused, and he panicked.
"You have always been by my side; all of this is real."
"What if it's just a dream, and dreams eventually end?"
"Are you going to leave me?"
I shook my head. "No, maybe none of us exist here."
"Sleep now." Silver Moon gently kissed my forehead.
I closed my eyes, feeling something strange in my heart. Why was Silver Moon's kiss different from Prisoner's? Prisoner's kiss was cold and penetrated deep within me, while Silver Moon's kiss was warm and left a feeling of longing.
"If this is a dream, I hope I never wake up," Silver Moon sighed as he left.
Hearing the sound of the door closing, I opened my eyes.
But we must wake up...
