"Right here." Hess stopped in front of an opening.
"This, this is it?" I stretched my neck to look ahead.
A few steps further, and it was just a sheer cliff. Damn, another abyss.
"I remember being pushed into an abyss back then; isn't this the bottom?"
"No, Undead have levels. I am the leader of the lowest level Undead," Hess said, his gaze fixed ahead.
"What levels?"
"Three: Star-Rated, Moon Level, and Light Level."
"So if I reach Light Level, I can leave?"
"It's not that simple; your journey is still long."
"Oh." Honestly, it wasn't discouragement but resignation—how much longer would these days last?
"Have you been to hell?" Hess suddenly asked.
"Huh? Of course not." Hell sounded like such a distant place.
"Prepare yourself mentally; let's go."
I don't know why Hess brought this up, but I was eager to see what was below that made Hess so apprehensive.
"Alright, I'm ready—"
"Ah! Hess—!"
Before I could react, Hess had already pushed me down. This feeling was familiar, and it wasn't pleasant. I was very unhappy!
If I can come back, you better remember this!
My body tumbled through the air, but thankfully in this state, I didn't have to faint again. I floated down, getting closer to the ground.
A 360-degree spin landing—beautiful!
I cautiously began to move. Oddly enough, despite feeling calm, there was nothing as terrifying as Hess had described.
Drifting slowly, I looked around but saw no shadows.
"Is anyone there?" I called out softly, but the vast emptiness echoed my voice several times.
"Strange, why is there nothing here?" I muttered quietly as I wandered aimlessly.
"Hey—"
Still no response.
I increasingly felt something was off; how could it be so quiet here? Thinking this over, I stood still to observe, afraid to take another step!
Sure enough, the crisis has arrived!
Suddenly, a large number of Undead rushed towards me. Damn it, could there really be this many attacking just me?
What should I do? What should I do!
I turned back and forth, unable to hide or retreat!
"Come on, if I'm going to die, then let it be!" I closed my eyes, ready to face the impact!
In an instant, my body was bumped left and right. There was no pain; it felt like being tossed around like a balloon. Is this what an attack feels like?
I slightly opened my eyes and found that more than half of the Undead had bypassed me and were rushing behind me...
What is going on?
I immediately grabbed one of the Undead nearby. That guy clearly seemed impatient to break free from my grip.
"Tell me, what is happening?"
"Let go, run!" To my surprise, this guy could actually talk.
"I won't let go until you tell me!"
"If you don't run now, it will be too late!"
"What will be too late?"
"Fire, the fire that can melt everything in the three realms is coming!"
"Fire, do Undead even fear fire?" I asked in confusion.
Aren't Undead supposed to have no emotions or senses? And they automatically heal from any injuries.
"You, you idiot! I can't explain it to you! This fire is enough to turn us to ashes!" the other person shouted anxiously.
I was stunned and then let go. Undead can die... just like Fire Fan? Forever turned to ashes, with no hope of resurrection?
Could it be that I'm going to die as soon as I arrive?
"There's a place to take shelter, hide over there!" The other person kindly told me when they saw my shocked expression.
I snapped back to reality and was about to thank them, but I noticed that the panic from earlier had disappeared. They stood firmly beside me.
"Hey, why aren't you running?" I asked.
"...It's too late."
"What?!"
"Sigh, we're doomed." I stared blankly at this Undead in front of me, who looked about my age, with neat short hair. Aside from their large eyes, everything else was quite ordinary.
"At this point, you still have the leisure to admire my beauty?!" The boy grinned and shouted at me.
Beauty?! I thought, do you even have any?
I didn't say anything out loud; this wasn't the time for bickering. I realized that around me, there were only a few others like me, unfortunate Undead, trembling all over with faces ashen.
Although I was now Undead, I hadn't completely died yet; there was still hope for life. I absolutely couldn't be eliminated right from the start!
"Is there really no way out?" I asked.
"No, if there were, I wouldn't be waiting here to die," the boy replied, arms crossed and floating cross-legged in mid-air.
No, there had to be another way. Think, there must be something!
"Here it comes!" the boy shouted!
Here it comes? What is coming?!
A wave of oppressive, frenzied energy slammed down on us, making it hard to breathe. I stared blankly at the boy, who nodded helplessly.
Drops began to fall, one by one, like raindrops, making a sizzling sound. At first, they weren't very dense; occasionally, one or two would land on me. I watched as my body was pierced by them, creating small holes that emitted green smoke. Fortunately, I couldn't feel any pain.
Then they became more frequent, and most of my body started to turn transparent and disappear. Many of the Undead around me writhed in agony; pain was indeed present, as if my body were being cut alive while still having flesh and blood.
I ran back and forth in pain, but it was useless; the terrain here was completely flat and offered no hiding spots.
Damn it! How did I not think of this? Maybe Nether Energy wouldn't work, but I still had Pure Sound. The powers of the divine realm shouldn't be completely sealed away, right?!
"Defense, Golden Garment!" I chanted silently, holding onto a glimmer of hope.
It has to work; it must!
The faint golden light was not as intense as usual, but at this moment, it was enough to serve as my shield, my lifeline!
It could truly protect against this terrifying flame, which melted everything it touched like sulfuric acid...
Right, that boy from earlier!
I turned around and began searching for the boy. He knew about this flame and where to hide; he must have gone through many dangers. If I turned to ashes this time because of him, what would be the difference from killing him?!
Looking at the numerous wailing Undead around me, I paid them no mind. There were too many; this was not the time for compassion!
There! That boy!
I rushed over and shielded him with my body. The boy lay there almost motionless, his body covered in charred black burn marks.
"Hey, are you okay?" I nudged him.
The boy squinted his eyes, clearly surprised that I was unharmed and had come to save him.
"You're fine now; just rest," I said.
The Undead recovered quickly, so as long as they were not turned to ash, they would be fine.
