"Are we ever going to get out of here?"
"We will! I promised I would take you out!"
During this time, Hanako had grown increasingly weak, barely speaking as he lay on my back. I had not asked what was wrong with him.
Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! I cursed inwardly, realizing we couldn't escape; everything looked the same. It was like opening a door to enter a room, only to find another new room behind that door, endlessly nested. What was even more frustrating was that I couldn't find the way we came in.
I didn't know how long I had been wandering around here. I could wait longer, but what about Hanako? I could clearly feel the changes in his body, and thinking about it made me even more anxious!
No! If this continues, we will definitely not get out. Maybe I should try—destroying this place!
"Break, Rift Sky Seal!" A black vortex mark appeared on my palm as I slammed it against a door in front of me.
Bang!
It shattered, and a mist filled the air. When the smoke cleared, I was stunned!
How could this be!
Although the room in front of me was destroyed, beyond it lay an endless expanse of doors and walls; it simply couldn't be destroyed completely.
Suddenly! Pairs of eyes appeared on the walls, each pair more bizarre than the last, gleaming with a cold light. They resembled cat eyes but were even more piercing. Just like how some people fear looking into a cat's eyes because they are too strange and chilling, these eyes stared at me unblinkingly, stirring up feelings of dread within me.
Since coming here, I always saw these eyes. Strangely enough, aside from their initial attack, they hadn't harmed me again. Moreover, that first attack posed no real danger; it felt merely like a simple test. I didn't know what they were or what they wanted.
I could always evade them, but after all this time, I really hadn't sensed any intent to harm from them. Could I have been mistaken?
I paused my actions and thought for a moment before changing my course to follow them! Letting out a deep sigh, I tightened my grip on Hanako's arm and stepped toward those eyes one step at a time.
There was no other way...
"Xi Meng—" Huazi seemed surprised and called out to me cautiously.
"It's okay, let's go see," I reassured, patting Huazi's arm.
Those eyes indeed began to move, seemingly leading the way. I dared not relax and proceeded with caution.
Twisting hands, opening doors, closing doors; these sounds occasionally broke the oppressive atmosphere, repeating incessantly. I mechanically followed those eyes, continuously mimicking those three actions. Huazi's emotions grew increasingly unstable; he was overly tense.
"Huazi, what's wrong?"
"I'm scared, very scared." Huazi's small body trembled continuously.
I felt the same way. The further we went, the more uneasy I became. Even now, I couldn't determine the intentions of those eyes—whether they were good or bad. Hearing Huazi say this, especially considering his innate animal instincts that allowed him to sense certain things, made my heart sink.
But there was no choice because—I could no longer find the way back...
I hoped I hadn't made the wrong choice and wouldn't bring harm to him.
My steps felt heavy, yet I had to keep moving forward. My hands seemed uncontrollable, mechanically performing those three actions.
"Xi Meng! Xi Meng! Xi Meng!" Huazi suddenly shouted, his voice somewhat frantic as he jumped off my back, his sharp fingers accidentally grazing my arm.
I gasped for breath and stared at him in a daze.
"Don't, don't go any further!" Huazi's eyes widened in terror.
I furrowed my brow and observed my surroundings; those eyes had also stopped moving and slowly penetrated a wall before disappearing from sight.
Yes, they were gone!
Earlier, when we were guided, part of the eyes passed through the wall, part circled around the doorknob, and part remained behind us. But now, they have all disappeared.
Perhaps we have arrived at our destination.
"Hanako, I think we have arrived."
I said, my hand trembling as I grasped the doorknob.
"Don't, don't open it!" Hanako pressed down on my hand, desperately trying to stop me.
"Even if there's only a one in ten thousand chance, maybe if we open this door, we will see a way out."
"It won't happen. You have to believe me; with my understanding of this place, it won't be that easy. There must be something terrifying inside!" Hanako trembled as he pulled at my hand.
"We don't have time; we are out of time. If we don't do this now, we might never leave." I reached out with my other hand to cover Hanako's trembling hand and gently pulled them apart.
Hanako's gaze was filled with despair; it was the fear of facing death. He looked at me in terror, but it was too late.
The doorknob made a twisting sound, the door opened, and a blinding light poured out along with a stench that even the Undead could smell.
"Ah—!"
