The next day, Song Kang was forced to board a train to work. My dad, due to his alcoholism and smoking, had seen his health deteriorate. Eventually, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Fortunately, it was at an intermediate stage, and there was a chance for surgery. After the operation, my dad was weak and could only lie in bed, unable to move. He had no choice but to call me and my mom, asking us to come take care of him. 0

"Your mom and I are divorced; she doesn't care about me, and I don't want to care about her either." 0
"But you're different." 0
"You are my daughter, so you have to support me in my old age." 0
"If you don't come, I'll sue you for not providing for your elderly parent, and you'll lose your job and be left with nothing." 0

On the other end of the line, I could hear my dad's frantic voice. I didn't say much; I just silently hung up the phone. 0
"Disgraceful!" 0
My mom listened nearby, her face turning pale with anger. 0
I smiled and tried to comfort her, "Mom, don't be upset." 0
"What your dad said is true; after all, we are biological father and daughter." 0
"We won't shortchange him on the support money." 0
"But..." 0
My mom opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something more. 0
I waved my hand to interrupt her. 0
I stared out the window and said lightly, "But once we give him the support money, he has to be alive to spend it." 0

When I entered the hospital room, my dad was half-reclining on the bed, while my grandfather was bustling around. Upon seeing me arrive, my dad merely glanced at me before turning his head away and saying nothing more. 0

As for Grandpa, he was so busy that he didn't even notice me. I put down my bag, sat in a chair, and quietly watched them. 0

"You're here?" 0

My dad was the first to speak, breaking the silence. He glanced at me and said lightly, "Let Grandpa take a break; he should eat." 0

I didn't respond as Grandpa came out holding a food container. 0

"Ning Ning is here!" 0

Seeing me, Grandpa's face lit up with a smile. He cheerfully said, "Are you hungry? Grandpa brought you some food." 0

"No, thank you." 0

I shook my head and replied calmly, "You all eat." 0

"That won't do!" 0

Grandpa frowned, saying, "A person is made of iron and meals are made of steel; how can you not eat?" 0

"Just wait; Grandpa will go buy you something to eat." 0

Before I could refuse, he ran out. 0

"Hmph, so insincere." 0

My dad snorted coldly, his tone revealing some dissatisfaction. It seemed he wanted to stir trouble but didn't want to make it too obvious due to face-saving reasons. 0

I smiled and ignored him. For a moment, the room fell into silence. At that moment, Grandpa returned with the food container and approached my dad. 0

"Son, it's time to eat." 0

Grandpa opened the container and took out the dishes. 0

"What are we eating?" 0
My dad frowned, "The doctor said that after the surgery, he needs to fast and avoid water." 0
"Oh, that was before." 0
Grandpa quickly explained, "It's been two days now; he can eat." 0
"Come on, have something to eat." 0
"This..." 0
My dad hesitated for a moment but eventually took the chopsticks. 0
He looked at me, then at Grandpa, and quietly said, "Ning Ning, you should go out and eat something too." 0
"No need." 0
I shook my head, "I'm not hungry." 0
"Alright then." 0
My dad nodded and didn't say much more; he lowered his head and started eating. 0
Grandpa stood beside him, a look of satisfaction on his face. 0
I stared at my dad and suddenly asked, "Dad, do you believe in karma?" 0
"Karma?" 0
My dad paused for a moment and furrowed his brow, asking, "What do you mean?" 0
"Nothing." 0
I shook my head and said lightly, "I just feel that good and evil will eventually be rewarded." 0
"Heh." 0
My dad scoffed, "Don't try to scare me with that." 0
"My illness was caught early; I've already had surgery." 0
"As long as I take good care of myself, I will recover." 0
"By then, I'll be able to eat, drink, jump around, and be active again." 0

As he said this, a look of pride appeared on his face. 0
