After school, the library's first floor is open for book borrowing until around six o'clock, while the reading room on the second floor is available for students studying in the evening until nine.
Xiao Yao and Xiao Yi slowly entered the first-floor reading room, glancing inside. There were only three or four students selecting books from the shelves.
"Is that person here?" Xiao Yi asked quietly.
"No," Xiao Yao shook her head. Although she couldn't remember what the person looked like, she was sure it wasn't any of those present.
"I see..." Xiao Yi couldn't help but show her disappointment. "Well, it's been a while since I've been to the library, so I'll just wander around for a bit!"
"Okay, I'll return my books first and then come find you."
Xiao Yao approached the checkout desk and returned the books she borrowed yesterday. Then she walked into the aisles, casually browsing through the books displayed on the shelves.
"Ah, this book is upside down..."
Xiao Yao instinctively reached out her hand, ready to pull out the book and set it right, but suddenly stopped and quietly looked around—yesterday's strange person did not appear.
She let out an unintentional sigh of relief. However, looking at the upside-down book on the shelf, she suddenly felt a bit hesitant...
Sigh! It was just a statement from a delusional person; why should she care so much?
The book being upside down was simply a mistake made by someone returning it; there was no need to come up with a bunch of strange reasons!
After forcing herself to do so, she took a deep breath and resolutely pulled the book out, placing it back in its proper position.
Nothing happened.
Hmph, see! Nothing at all! Xiaoyao felt a strange sense of pride inside.
"Hey!" Xiaoyi suddenly tapped her shoulder from behind. "Are you still looking for a book?"
"Yeah." Xiaoyao turned to look at her. "What's up? Are you leaving?"
"Hehe... let me tell you..." Xiaoyi suddenly lowered her voice mysteriously. "I just intentionally turned a few books upside down to see if that strange person you mentioned would show up..."
"Huh? Hey! Don't mess around like that! It will cause trouble for the library staff!" Xiaoyao lightly scolded, somewhat dumbfounded.
"Huh? It's just turning a book upside down; it's not like I'm damaging the books. How could that cause any trouble? You're overreacting!" Xiaoyi waved her hand dismissively. "Besides, nothing happened anyway~~"
"Sigh... anyway, don't mess with things like that. Just go back and put the books back properly!" Xiaoyao said with slight displeasure.
"Huh? But I just randomly picked a few; I have no idea which ones they are, and finding them would be a hassle! Oh well, it doesn't matter! After all, didn't that person say this is to ward off evil? So I’m doing a good deed!" Xiaoyi still had an indifferent attitude.
Xiaoyao sighed inwardly, regretting her decision to come to the library with Xiaoyi.
There is a significant gap in the value placed on books between those who love reading and those who do not, which is something that non-readers cannot understand.
"Forget it, you go back first. I'll look for it myself," she said, leaving Xiao Yi behind as she continued to weave through the bookshelves.
"Huh~~ Don't do that! Alright, alright! I'll think of a way to put them back... Tsk!" Xiao Yi pouted reluctantly, trying to turn around and tidy up the mess she had caused.
After weaving back and forth between the shelves a few times, Xiao Yao felt a bit overwhelmed as she straightened the books.
This Xiao Yi... claiming she just pulled out a few books. After only shaking a few shelves, Xiao Yao had already found nearly dozens of books placed backward. How many did she actually mess with?
"Hey! I've put them all back! Don't be mad, okay?" Xiao Yi suddenly appeared behind her, lightly tapping her back with her finger in an attempt to seek forgiveness.
"All put back? Are you sure?" The culprit had shown up, and Xiao Yao couldn't help but roll her eyes. "How many did you actually play with? I found at least ten just along the way. Are you sure you've put them all back?"
"What? I only used about four or five books, and I've already put them back. The rest is not my fault, so don't randomly accuse me!" Xiao Yi hurriedly clarified.
"Then tell me how these happened..." Xiao Yao pointed at the bookshelf but was suddenly stunned—
For some reason, every book on the shelf in front of her was placed backward.
