The ant, although looking at Liu You'er, seemed to be judging whether Liu You'er was food. It did not make any other moves except for occasionally touching Liu You'er’s face with its antennae. Although Liu You'er felt goosebumps from the antennae's touch, she could only stand there stiffly because the Ant Army that was transporting corpses had not moved far away. It wasn't until those ants had gone that Liu You'er swatted the ant off her shoulder.
In an instant, as the ant flew away, a liquid suddenly shot out from its body, leaving a trace on the ground. Once the ant hit the ground, it immediately got back up and quickly ran towards the direction of the main group.
Even though Liu You'er was not very familiar with ants, she knew they were highly cooperative creatures. If this one got away, she would likely have to face the Ant Army!
With a thought, Liu You'er appeared in front of the ant, a dagger appearing in her hand. The moment the ant stopped, she thrust it directly at the ant. Although her aim with a gun was... somewhat off, she practiced throwing darts often and was quite accurate with knives. Thus, the dagger successfully pierced the connection between the ant's neck and head, turning it into a headless ant. As everyone knows, even without its head, an ant's mandibles would continue to snap for a while, and its body would still move but would be unable to find its main group.
With the corrosive mark left on the ground, Liu You'er did not use her hands but picked up two long branches to pinch the ant's body. She noticed that the ant's abdomen was still secreting some kind of liquid. This liquid not only caused the branches to slowly turn black but also emitted a sour smell. So she released the ant's body and let it fend for itself.
Liu You'er then looked at its head and found that its mouth also secreted a small amount of liquid. She tested it with a stick and found it had corrosive properties as well.
Looking at this ant, Liu You'er thought for a moment before retrieving several bottles from her space and then headed towards the direction where the ant army had gone.
Scarface's Division
Scarface and his group were down to just nine people, including Scarface himself. Although they were all Ability users, they were in disarray, covered in wounds with dirt and leaves on their clothes. They sat back-to-back, panting heavily while fearfully looking around. Their knives and clubs had turned black, and some weapons even showed signs of corrosion. What drove them to despair was that their abilities were nearly depleted! If another wave of ants came, they would likely perish here.
Unlike their panic, Scarface felt terrified as well but managed to maintain some rationality due to his status as a higher-up who had seen some things. He carefully recalled what had happened and suddenly realized that although they were running downhill, they were actually getting closer to the deepest part of the mountain. It seemed as if these ants were consciously forcing them in this direction!
These ants could easily kill them all; however, for some reason, they suddenly seemed to receive some command and collectively stopped attacking them lethally. But whenever they tried to break through and rush down the mountain again, they would be met with fierce attacks.
Assuming this bizarre behavior is real and occurred after the deaths of those dozen people, what exactly happened after their deaths that caused these mutated ants to change? Although they temporarily "escaped," it felt as if they had fallen into a larger trap. What he could not accept the most was that it was the ants who were plotting against them! Of course, he did not dare to share this speculation with his subordinates; any hint of trouble now would be fatal!
So, he could only ponder the answers to his questions alone.
Suddenly, a terrifying thought flashed through Scarface's mind. Could it be that they were now heading towards the Ant Nest?
Sweat beads fell from his face, and his lips began to tremble involuntarily. In the distance, the rustling sounds grew louder, indicating that those rusty-red little creatures were surging forward like a tide.
"Ahhh!"
The continuous cries of despair ahead urged Liu You'er to quicken her pace as she followed closely behind the swarm of ants. Her mental perception told her that this group of ants stretched over 100 meters long and more than 30 meters wide!
Liu You'er vaguely remembered from biology class that ants identify food and enemies by scent, so she dared not get too close and maintained a distance of about five meters, fearing they might turn and attack her at any moment.
Looking around at her surroundings, she noticed trees so large that it would take three of her to hug one. Despite being deep in the forest, she had yet to see any living creature other than the ants, which sent a chill down her spine. She thought: These ants are too fierce; I don't even know what species they are. They must not be allowed to survive; otherwise, once they evolve and become even stronger, humanity's apocalypse alongside the Zombies will surely come!
With a thought, Liu You'er immediately reached the front of the Ant Army. Before the Ant Army could react, she used Teleportation and vanished from her spot. In less than five seconds, she appeared before an entrance. Looking up, she realized this was not a cave but a Factory made up of enormous leaves. This Factory was as large as a basketball court, and the towering trees around it perfectly integrated with this leaf Factory.
However, Liu You'er had no time to admire the creativity of these ants; instead, she scattered insect repellent on the ground 100 meters away from the nest before the Ant Army arrived. Suddenly recalling that when she played with ants as a child, they seemed to dislike the smell of rubber bands, she took out some rubber gloves, tore them apart, and threw them near the Ant Nest about 20 meters away.
Fearing that the rubber smell might not be strong enough, she used her Ability to heat up the gloves until a nauseating rubber odor filled the air. Then she quietly waited at the entrance of the nest, watching the Ant Army less than 150 meters away from her, silently praying that either the insect repellent or the rubber would take effect.
Sure enough, when the Ant Army passed through the insect repellent area, they paused for almost thirty minutes without moving. This made Liu You'er feel delighted; just as she decided to enter the cave, she noticed that the Ant Army began to move slowly again! Liu You'er tensed up as she watched them approach within 50 meters of herself and thought: They held off for half an hour!
So, quickly sprinkling some insect repellent on the rubber surface, it was decided that as soon as the Ant Army crossed the rubber circle's defense line, they would immediately use Teleportation to leave and come back next time to eliminate these ants!
45 meters!
40 meters!
35 meters!
30 meters!
"Eh?" Liu You'er was a bit surprised that these ants stopped just 10 meters away from the rubber circle.
Seeing this scene, Liu You'er didn't linger and immediately turned around. With heated rubber gloves appearing in her hands, she stuffed them into her pocket and charged into the nest, heading towards the deepest part. The human voices had already ceased half an hour ago; they were probably all dead. However, that couldn't be helped. Their deaths still held some significance; otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to find the ants' lair so smoothly.
And also the location of the Queen Ant!
