Liu You'er raised an eyebrow and quietly got out of the car. Looking at the soldier who was pointing a gun at her, she seemed a bit surprised and asked, "Is there something wrong?"
The soldier, observing Liu You'er’s innocent demeanor, asked cautiously, "You are not the owner of the vehicle. Where is the original owner?"
"Dead."

Hearing Liu You'er’s cold tone made the soldier furrow his brows slightly. He then asked, "Are you an Ability user?"
This time, Liu You'er did not respond but simply nodded and countered with a question, "How can I enter the base?"
Seeing Liu You'er remain calm despite being threatened with a gun, the soldier guessed her Ability was not simple but didn’t care much about it. There were many powerful Ability users in the base, including several teams; in the end, they all had to rely on the base. Moreover, she was just a woman alone. Thinking of the instant noodles he had glimpsed inside the car, a glimmer of interest flashed in his eyes. He pointed his gun toward the long line and said, "You need to queue to enter, but the vehicle belongs to the base and will be confiscated."
Then he paused as if contemplating something before adding, "If you are willing to surrender all the supplies in your vehicle, you can undergo inspection and enter the base now."
Upon hearing this, Liu You'er realized that the soldier was trying to extort her. Although there were only five boxes of instant noodles and two bottles of mineral water in the car, it was still considered a significant asset in this post-apocalyptic world.
However, Liu You'er didn’t mind; those supplies weren’t hers to begin with, and giving them up would save her trouble. But if she agreed too casually, it would seem suspicious. So she widened her eyes as if very angry and said to the soldier, "These supplies were earned with my life! If I have to surrender everything, wouldn’t that mean I enter the base with nothing?"
The soldier seemed to consider her words for a moment before pretending to be humane and said, "Seeing that you are alone and pitiful, I’ll let you keep five boxes of instant noodles and two bottles of water. If you don’t agree, then take your supplies and leave." He then hugged his gun back to his chest and ignored Liu You'er as he called over his companions to drive away.
Liu You'er looked at the soldiers and sneered inwardly. It was getting dark, and she had no vehicle and was alone. If she set out with so many supplies, it would be like a sheep entering a tiger's den. The people in these groups were eyeing her hungrily and would not let her go easily.
The soldier saw Liu You'er’s "angry face" and felt secretly pleased. According to the base's regulations, newcomers only needed to submit 40% of their supplies, meaning Liu You'er could keep three boxes of instant noodles and a box of mineral water. However, they always shortchanged newcomers, knowing it would be too late for them to realize the rules.
Moreover, this woman was alone, and among those waiting in line were many rogues. As long as they were outside the base, they could burn, kill, and plunder without consequence. If this woman was smart, she would definitely choose to enter the base!
Suddenly, a sweet voice came from behind Liu You'er: "Oh? How come I didn’t know about this regulation?"
The soldier immediately turned his displeased gaze toward the source of the voice but changed his expression to one of embarrassment upon seeing who it was. He thought to himself, "What bad luck to run into them!"
Hearing that familiar sweet voice made Liu You'er’s heart skip a beat. She turned around and indeed saw Qiaoyue and the others.
There was also Wang Luojie standing there, his gaze fixed on her with admiration and a hint of guilt that made her skin crawl. She felt helpless; she thought she would encounter them again after staying at the base for a while, but who knew she would run into them now!
Qiaoyue smiled kindly at Liu You'er and then walked over to the soldier, saying, "I remember my brother didn’t set any rule requiring newcomers to turn in all their food!"
Although Qiaoyue reprimanded him with an unfriendly expression, her voice remained irresistibly charming.
Even though the soldier was being scolded, he felt as if he were being praised when he heard Qiaoyue’s sweet voice. It wasn't until she mentioned reporting this matter to her brother that he snapped back to reality. He hurriedly apologized and returned Liu You'er’s supplies intact.
He thought to himself: "If Li Lei, the city guard who hates favoritism the most, finds out about this, I’ll probably be assigned to the 'cleaning squad' to deal with zombies!"
Seeing that the soldier kept flattering her and even returned the food to Liu You'er, Qiaoyue nodded in satisfaction. She walked up to Liu You'er and shyly said, "You just entered the base and don’t have a place to stay yet. If you don’t mind, why don’t you come live with me for now? What do you think?"
Liu You'er ignored her hopeful gaze and coldly replied that it wasn't necessary before picking up her supplies from the ground and walking straight into the base. Qiaoyue appeared somewhat embarrassed by the rejection, unable to understand why Liu You'er was always so cold towards her when she hadn’t offended her at all.

Liu You'er then remembered that a check was required. Her heart sank slightly as she asked, "What kind of check?"
The soldier looked at Liu You'er and then at Wang Luojie and the others behind her. After weighing the pros and cons, he decided to retract the dagger he had drawn and said, "You need to cut yourself; as long as the blood is bright red, you can enter."
If someone was scratched by a Zombie, although they wouldn't immediately turn into one, their blood would turn dark red after a few minutes. Therefore, the first step to entering the base was to verify the color of the blood.

Liu You'er felt a headache coming on. She thought to herself, "Bright red blood! Where am I supposed to get bright red blood? My blood has already turned black!"
Seeing Liu You'er hesitating, the soldier couldn't help but feel suspicious. He raised his gun again, aiming it at Liu You'er. Wang Luojie frowned deeply at this sight.
With no other choice, Liu You'er took out a dagger and made a cut on her wrist, causing bright red blood to appear. The soldier relaxed and lowered his gun. Liu You'er quickly took out a white handkerchief from her pocket and wrapped up the wound before heading into the base without looking back.
Although Wang Luojie watched Liu You'er’s retreating figure and moved his lips as if to say something, he ultimately remained silent. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew out from the base, causing Qiaoyue to show a slightly puzzled expression.

Finally successfully entering the base, Liu You'er let out a long sigh and silently apologized to the injured chick in her heart.
