C Zone The bustling crowd and the rising calls of vendors seemed to suddenly freeze, leaving only the sound of footsteps from the newcomers.
The sudden silence stirred an unease in Yue Xingze's sensitive heart. Suddenly, a hand as plump as a pig's hoof landed on his shoulder, pressing down with increasing force, causing his already frail body to bend in pain. Just when he felt he could no longer endure it, a long and graceful hand reached out, pinching the "pig hoof" that was applying pressure with just the thumb and index finger, and lightly flicked it backward.
With a soft crack, the sound of bones rubbing together entered Yue Xingze's ears. Immediately after, he heard a scream from behind him. Turning around in terror, he saw Fat Wang clutching his right wrist and screaming, his hand dangling limply, clearly dislocated, while his subordinates anxiously surrounded him.
From a distance, Fat Wang spotted Yue Xingze blushing as he spoke to a woman. Upon closer inspection, he realized that the woman he was talking to was stunningly beautiful, especially her captivating eyes reminiscent of a Persian cat. His already small eyes narrowed into slits as he quickly walked over, placing his hand on Yue Xingze's shoulder and provocatively applying pressure. However, he did not expect that the woman would merely use two fingers to flick his hand away with seemingly little effort but immense strength, dislocating it in the process!
Seeing this scene, A's Subordinate immediately said, "Captain Wang, I'll put it back for you; it might hurt a bit." Then...
With another crack, Fat Wang let out another scream as he slapped away the subordinate who had just reset his bone with his left hand, cursing, "Are you trying to kill me? Get lost!"
The subordinate, caught off guard while bending over, nearly fell to the ground from Fat Wang's slap but did not retaliate; he simply lowered his head and stepped aside.
At this moment, Fat Wang's face was filled with rage and flushed red. He looked at the woman's mocking gaze and Yue Xingze's terrified expression, along with the whispers of those around him. He felt all eyes were on him, making him feel humiliated.
He shouted at the onlookers as if venting his frustration: "Are you all so bored? If you keep watching, I'll have all of you taken away to the lab!"
The crowd that had been watching immediately dispersed upon hearing this but still cast furtive glances at Fat Wang and Liu You'er. After all, in this apocalyptic world, there weren't many leisure activities to pass the time. Now that there was a good show to watch, they certainly didn't want to miss it.
Fat Wang knew that if he didn't deal with this woman harshly today, he would lose all authority in the entire base! He snarled, "Grab her and send her to Red Alley!"
Upon hearing this, Yue Xingze turned pale with shock. He had no money and could only stay in a place filled with unsavory characters, and Red Alley was right around his residence. If a woman made a mistake, she would be sent there and reduced to a tool for pleasure. Every day, four or five bodies of women were sent out from Red Alley. One day, when he passed by, a straw mat fell down, revealing those bodies completely naked, covered in wounds, their eyes wide open. He was so frightened that he couldn't sleep properly for a week.
Hearing Fat Wang's words now, he was just about to run over to plead for the woman when she suddenly grabbed him, causing Yue Xingze to turn around in confusion.
He saw the woman looking relaxed, showing no signs of panic. She patted her shoulder and comforted him, saying, "Don't worry, he can't do anything to me."
Her gentle tone seemed to dissolve his anxiety miraculously.
Meanwhile, Fat Wang, witnessing this scene, was furious enough to spit blood. He immediately shouted at his subordinates, "What are you waiting for? Get over there!"
The five burly henchmen felt a sense of injustice at being scolded by the less than 175 cm tall and rotund Fat Wang. They all thought in unison: "If it weren't for you being backed by a nearly second-tier Ability user, you wouldn't even be the captain!"
Yet they still obeyed him and charged fiercely at Liu You'er.
Liu You'er shook her head as she watched the approaching men. She pulled Yue Xingze behind her and then dashed forward. She kneed the first man in the stomach, causing him to double over in pain. Then she flipped over him using her hands on his back and kicked both feet backward into the chests of two other men who were about 180 cm tall, sending them flying and crashing into two others who followed behind. They writhed in agony on the ground. Finally, she swiftly struck the neck of the bent-over man with her hand blade, and he collapsed softly onto the ground. The entire process took less than three seconds.
Seeing his five henchmen taken down in an instant, Fat Wang was stunned for a second before turning to run. However, he found himself still in place after running for a while. Looking down, he realized that Liu You'er had lifted him up with one hand. His heart sank as he finally understood why this woman said he couldn't do anything to her.
"An Ability user! She must be an Ability user! The base's Ability users are managed by B Zone. He doesn't have the strength or authority to control her! Moreover, since he provoked her first, even if he got killed, it would only mean promoting another captain. After all, there are few Ability users; losing an ordinary person means nothing to the base!"
Understanding this clearly now, Fat Wang disregarded his pride and immediately begged for mercy, tears and snot streaming down his face in utter disgrace as he desperately wanted to escape from the woman's "clutches."
"Alright."
The cold voice was like heavenly music to Fat Wang. Just as he was about to thank Liu You'er, he felt himself rising higher and higher off the ground, and then with a thud, he fell back to the ground, fainting. He would probably have to rest and recover for the next two months.
At this moment, Yue Xingze was completely frozen in place, his mind in a tangle. He couldn't believe that in less than ten seconds, this woman had dealt with all the bullies, including Fat Wang. Looking at her silhouette glowing softly in the sunlight, with her hair gently lifted by the breeze, his heart raced. Suddenly, as if she sensed something, the owner of the hair turned her head. When their eyes met, she paused for a moment, then smiled slightly. In that instant, it felt as if the entire world had shrunk down to just him and this woman.
Liu You'er felt a burning gaze and turned to see it was Yue Xingze. She smiled at him but noticed that he seemed dazed, standing there blankly. She walked over and flicked his forehead, saying, "What are you daydreaming about? Come with me."
"Huh? Oh, okay."
Liu You'er raised an eyebrow as she looked at the shy boy who was half a head shorter than her. Upon closer inspection, she realized he was more beautiful than many girls. She couldn't help but click her tongue in surprise at his increasingly flushed face; it was amusing. However, before she could take a step forward, a flash of fire surged toward the boy.
She quickly pulled Yue Xingze to her side and dodged the attack, watching as a singed mark appeared nearby. Her expression turned serious.
Releasing Yue Xingze from her embrace, she shot a sharp glance at the man who had attacked them. The man had an ordinary appearance and was of average height. After seeing Liu You'er evade the attack, he displayed a begrudgingly acceptable expression and stepped forward under her wary gaze, arrogantly stating, "Congratulations on qualifying for entry into B Zone. If that little brat knows you, he can come along too."
After saying this, he didn't linger for even a second and turned to leave.
Yue Xingze looked at the charred mark where he had been standing moments ago and paled. He glanced at the figure blocking him protectively and felt a wave of shame wash over him. He thought of his parents who had become Zombies to protect him and his brother who had taken on missions and whose fate remained uncertain. For the first time, he didn't want to run away; for the first time, he deeply hated his own cowardice and weakness; for the first time, he strongly desired to become stronger.
His fists unconsciously clenched tightly without feeling any pain from digging into his flesh. He bit down hard on his lower lip until it bled. Suddenly, a cool hand enveloped his clenched fist, bringing an icy sensation. He heard her whisper beside him: "Don't be afraid."
Unable to help himself, he looked up. The woman's expression remained indifferent, but inside him flowed a warm current...
