Liu You'er followed the Ability user to a square Factory of about 100 square meters. The entire Factory was made of glass, but it was impossible to see inside, likely due to coated glass. Strangely, there was no door to this Factory.
Liu You'er opened her consciousness, trying to sense what was inside the room, but found that her awareness was completely blocked by the glass, unable to perceive anything within.
In the tranquil laboratory, there were numerous bottles and jars under white lighting, clearly revealing various human organs suspended in the containers, and even some zombie heads.
A person dressed in a royal blue shirt and black trousers, with disheveled buttons and an excited gleam in his eyes, was busily mixing various chemical agents. The combination of these unidentifiable liquids and powders created a strange odor in the laboratory.
"Knock knock knock."
The continuous knocking interrupted the person's actions, causing him to frown slightly. Seemingly annoyed, he loosened a button and walked straight to the door. He yanked it open to find his assistant outside, looking panicked. In a chilling tone, he said, "You better have a good reason for interrupting me!"
The assistant, though her expression was calm, spoke with a slight tremor in her voice: "Number One Computer has issued an alert detecting Spiritual System Zombie Brain Waves. However, the monitoring screen shows it is a female Ability user, which is why I had to interrupt you. Please forgive me!"
As she looked at Ant Face's expressionless demeanor with a curious gaze that flickered uncertainly, beads of sweat formed on her forehead. Finally, the man smiled gently at her and pinched her cheek with his foul-smelling hand, saying, "Alright, I forgive you this time." He then walked toward his office.
With the sound of the door slamming shut, the assistant finally relaxed her breath and began to breathe deeply. She would rather face those terrifying Zombies outside the base than stay with this pervert; unfortunately, she had no choice in the matter.
On the circular hollow office desk, six computers were working simultaneously. The screens displayed surveillance footage from within the base. The man sat in the middle of the desk with his legs crossed casually, a laptop resting on his lap recording the waveform from earlier.
He tapped on the keyboard with his left hand for a while, and a hint of confusion appeared in his eyes. He set the notebook aside and looked at the woman on the screen of the Number One Computer, rhythmically tapping his right hand on the table out of boredom.
Suddenly, the woman glanced in his direction, her eyes flickering with indifference, as if she could see him through the camera. This made him pause his movements, lightly pursing his lips, then raising them slightly in a sickly smile.
Liu You'er was initially puzzled about how to enter when she saw the Ability user placing their hand on the Factory, continuously injecting energy into it. As the energy flowed in, the Factory began to change shape until a door appeared, surprising Liu You'er with the advanced technology of this medium-sized base.
The Ability user gestured for her to proceed, seemingly not intending to enter themselves. This made Liu You'er feel a twinge of caution as she prepared to step through the door. However, just as she was about to enter, she suddenly felt an ill-intentioned gaze fixated on her, triggering a sense of danger. She quickly looked in that direction but found nothing beyond the glass walls of the Factory. Deciding not to dwell on it, she prepared to take Yue Xingze inside with her.
Upon entering, she found herself enveloped in darkness. Just as she was about to continue walking, she felt a tug on her hand. Turning around, she discovered that Yue Xingze was blocked outside by an invisible Barrier, looking stunned and unable to come in. Liu You'er hesitated for a moment before gently freeing her hand from his tight grip.
Seeing Yue Xingze anxiously pounding on the Barrier and mumbling something with a near-tearful expression made Liu You'er feel a pang of sympathy. Still, she turned away and did not look back. The Ability user then removed their hand from the Factory, causing it to revert to its original form and making the door disappear completely.
The Ability user looked at Yue Xingze, who was still banging on the mirror, and sneered, "Kid, only Ability users can enter this house; ordinary people cannot get in. You might as well stop wasting your effort and pray that she comes out alive!" They then laughed heartily and walked away.
Inside the Factory
Liu You'er cautiously sensed her surroundings but found it completely empty—there was nothing at all.
Suddenly, the sound of "beep beep beep" drew Liu You'er's attention within the Factory.
A mechanical female voice announced: "Esteemed Ability user, welcome! On behalf of A City Survivor Base, we will conduct an Ability level test for you to better adapt to life in the base. A friendly reminder: being scratched by zombies of the same level will not cause mutation. Again, being scratched by zombies of the same level will not cause mutation. Finally, we hope you enjoy your time here!"
The voice echoed from all directions, making it impossible to determine its source. Liu You'er felt a jolt in her forehead and thought: "Being scratched by zombies of the same level will not cause mutation? That's new information. However, whoever set up this system is quite twisted—enjoy your time?!! I hope your whole family enjoys it with the zombies!"
"Roar"
A familiar zombie roar echoed, causing Liu You'er, who was in the darkness, to frown.
Inside the laboratory
"Achoo"
The person at the computer desk rubbed their nose in confusion, took a sip of hot water, and continued to stare at the screen.
Inside the factory
"Crack"
The sound of a cage being opened made Liu You'er furrow her brows, as she felt nothing unusual in the room. However... suddenly, a putrid smell wafted in. Liu You'er quickly dodged to the left, and in that instant, she turned around and kicked the zombie in front of her away.
"Thud"
The zombie fell to the ground, having lost its ability to move due to a broken spine. Liu You'er could hear it repeatedly banging its head on the floor, seemingly trying to get closer to her with its head.
This bizarre scene made Liu You'er frown tightly. Based on its strength and level of decay, this was just a common zombie. But didn't common zombies usually run away upon seeing someone? Why was it attacking her?
While she was still processing this fact, she sensed three more zombies charging at her. She immediately unleashed her aura but found that these three common zombies were completely unaffected and continued to advance toward her!
Barely managing to evade, she sensed that something was off, yet couldn't pinpoint what it was, feeling as if everything before her was unreal...
Suddenly, a flash of insight struck her mind, and she quickly retracted the aura belonging to the Zombie. If she were still human, she would probably be drenched in cold sweat by now!
Three Common Zombies charged at her once more. A glint of killing intent flashed in her eyes, and in the next moment, the heads of the three Zombies fell to the ground...
One hour later
Liu You'er felt increasingly uneasy. She had already killed two to three hundred Common Zombies in this pitch-black environment, including over fifty First-Level Zombies. The stench of rotten blood filled her nostrils, and her body bore some wounds. However, from the outside, this Factory appeared to be less than 100 square meters. If she had truly killed that many Zombies, she should have been buried under their corpses by now...
"Ding ding ding, warm reminder: Second-Level Zombies have appeared. Second-Level Zombies have appeared. Ability users can pass the test after defeating them. Once again, a reminder: Ability users can pass the test after defeating them! Finally, we wish you success in passing~"
Listening to the female voice that echoed again, Liu You'er felt a surge of anger, her face contorting into a grimace.
"Second-Level? How many of them are there?!"
She had only encountered one in the densely populated city center! Where did this medium-sized base find so many Advanced Zombies? It was ridiculous!
"Zzzzz..."
The sound of a cage opening echoed again, and two Second-Level Zombies rushed towards Liu You'er at high speed...
