"Liu You'er, ah~ Aunt knows that it's not very convenient for you to stay at her place, so she rented an apartment near your school for you. Look..."
Liu You'er looked at her aunt, who appeared slightly troubled, dressed extravagantly and with exquisite makeup. Her heart sank as she recalled how her aunt had confidently promised the police that she would take good care of her. It felt like being trapped in the depths of winter.
On the sofa sat a little girl, around eleven or twelve years old, with striking features and a lively aura. Unfortunately, when she spoke, her charm was overshadowed by her crude manner.
She said sharply, "Mom! Why are you renting a place for her? She’s perfectly capable of taking care of herself; why do you have to do everything for her..."
Before the little girl could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by an elegant girl around seventeen or eighteen years old, with a delicate face and graceful demeanor.
This girl gracefully descended the stairs from the second floor. Upon locking eyes with Liu You'er, she revealed a perfect smile before turning her gaze to her younger sister. With a slight frown and a gentle tone that carried a hint of reprimand, she said, "Xin Lian, how can you speak like that?"
Hearing her sister's admonition made the little girl unhappy. Just as she was about to argue back, she wilted under the warning look from her sister and turned her head away sulkily, letting out a huff.
Though she pretended to relent on the surface, inside she thought: It's all this jinx's fault! Otherwise, I wouldn't be getting scolded by my sister! Just wait! I'll deal with you when I get back to school!
Seeing Liu Xinlian's childish behavior, the older girl sighed helplessly and spoke apologetically, "Liu You'er, Xin Lian is still young and doesn't understand. I know you won't hold it against her, right...?"
Liu You'er noticed the deep guilt in the girl's eyes and felt a wave of disgust. If she didn't know better, she might have been fooled by this seemingly delicate demeanor! Fortunately, they wouldn't be living under the same roof anymore; whatever!
With that thought in mind, Liu You'er leaned back on the sofa, wearing a half-smile as she watched the girl silently put on an act.
The girl wasn't annoyed by Liu You'er's demeanor; instead, she gently took Liu You'er's hand in a gesture of a caring sister and said in an even softer tone, "Mom knows you're not comfortable living here, so she specifically rented an apartment near your school for you to make things easier. You don’t have to worry about anything."
After waiting for a moment, she subtly tightened her grip on Liu You'er's hand, unaware that the pressure meant nothing to Liu You'er.
The girl, seeing that her hints were ineffective, leaned closer to Liu You'er and whispered, "Of course, if you change your mind and tell me the key and password your uncle has at the bank, we can take better care of you. After all, you're still a minor, and many things are inconvenient for you."
Liu You'er listened to her somewhat threatening tone, unable to understand where her confidence came from, thinking that she would be tempted by this familial affection bought with material goods.
Seeing the girl finally reveal her intentions while pretending to care for her, as if refusing her would be a betrayal of her good intentions, Liu You'er found it amusing.
She calmly composed herself and said in a cold tone near the girl's ear, "Unfortunately, I really don't know. They haven't mentioned anything about that to me. But even if I did know, I wouldn't tell you. Don't worry!"
Liu You'er kept her gaze fixed on the girl's face and didn't miss the fleeting anger that crossed her expression.
Just as the girl was about to say something else, she was impatiently interrupted by Liu Xinlian, who spoke in an urgent and angry tone, "Sister, why are you thinking so much for her? She doesn't appreciate it!"
"What? Thinking so much for me?"
"Hehe~" If Liu You'er weren't so self-controlled, she would have laughed out loud at that moment!
The girl, still trying to persuade Liu You'er, froze in her expression as anger surged within her, unable to comprehend how her sister could be so foolish!
After giving Liu Xinlian another glare and seeing her quiet down, the girl lost interest in continuing the conversation, leaving the atmosphere silent.
Seeing this situation, Liu You'er also lost the desire to play along and thought disdainfully, "As soon as you get temporary control of the company, you're eager to push me aside and still think about getting the key. Where does your confidence come from? Do you think you're clever or that I'm foolish?"
Liu You'er stood up and said, "I don't have what you want. I'm moving out today. As for future matters, you don't need to worry about them!"
Hearing Liu You'er's words, their aunt who had been silently observing quickly stood up and said in a reproachful tone, "Oh dear~ What are you saying? We're just worried that you'll lose something important; that's why we wanted to help keep it safe for you. As for 'worrying,' that's too much! Just wait here; I'll help you pack your things and see you off~"
Liu You'er turned her gaze to her aunt, feeling disdainful inside as she thought, "You're really persistent! Even if you help me pack, you won't find the key!"
So she stood up and said calmly, "No need, I've already packed my things. I'll go by myself."
Without waiting for her aunt to respond, she walked into the room and soon pulled out a white suitcase. She said to them, "Thank you for your hospitality during this time!"
Then, without looking back, she left the lavishly decorated villa and got into the taxi she had arranged in advance, leaving happily.
Three hours later, Liu You'er lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling a wave of emptiness inside.
She hadn't moved into the house rented by her aunt; instead, she stayed in one of the properties left by her parents. After all, she didn't want to wake up in the middle of the night to find someone rummaging through her room!
Although this house wasn't large, only about 60 square meters, it was fully furnished, had good lighting, and the neighborhood was nice. Most importantly, it was very close to school.
Fortunately, she had anticipated this day and had someone prepare everything in advance; otherwise, she would have had to sleep in a hotel.
After lying there for a while, drowsiness hit her. She slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep. When she woke up again, it was already two o'clock in the early morning.
"Gurgle~"
Her stomach growled. She sat up in bed and looked at the pitch-black room while another scene appeared in her mind.
She saw her mother preparing delicious meals while she and her brother helped set the table. Before long, their father came home.
Then, the family began to sit around the dining table happily eating together, with their father gently speaking to their mother, eliciting playful responses from her.
She and her brother were engrossed in their bowls, fighting over the last piece of cola chicken wing on the plate. In the end, they overlooked another formidable opponent and could only watch helplessly as their father took the chicken wing away.
She exchanged a glance with her brother, and together they charged at their father, but both were embraced by him and rendered immobile. Their mother watched them gently from the side, and the whole house was filled with laughter.
The scene in her mind gradually blurred. Liu You'er returned to reality, looking at the empty room. She curled up into a ball, shrinking small in the darkness, sobbing, "I miss you so much, boohoo... I miss you..."
The next day, Liu You'er looked at her slightly swollen eyes and applied ice for a long time before they returned to normal.
As she entered the classroom, there was a moment of silence before everything resumed as normal. Everyone ignored her and chatted among themselves, while Liu You'er had no mood to greet anyone and walked straight to her seat.
She overheard a few girls nearby whispering, "Did you hear? A little genius transferred from the middle school. Average score of 99.5 across all subjects, received a full scholarship, and even jumped to Second-Level. It's incredible!"
"Really? That's amazing! I want to meet them!"
"Haha~ I heard they're not bad looking, but you should just forget it; don't be an old cow eating tender grass!"

Upon hearing the girls' conversation, Liu You'er silently rolled her eyes. She picked up her milk and took a sip, nearly spitting it out.
There stood Liu Yue at the door of their class, beaming with a bright smile, waving at Liu You'er while calling out, "Sister Liu You'er~ I've come to find you~ Haha~"
Liu You'er felt the curious and scrutinizing gazes around her and could only think, "Damn! This person is toxic..."
