Somewhere on Earth
"Doctor, here is the video of Liu You'er fighting the Spirit Guardian just now."
The doctor took the button-sized miniature camera, glanced at it, and placed it on the silver metal table. A small hole on the table sensed the object and emitted a scanning beam of light, scanning the camera before closing.
"Zzz"
Blue patterns appeared on the originally flat surface of the table, filled with blue currents that surged into the camera. The camera trembled slightly and projected a light screen from its lens, displaying scenes of Liu You'er battling Zhao Ling.
"Oh?"
When the doctor saw the black wormholes surrounding Zhao Ling, admiration appeared in his eyes.
"She can combine the power of Teleportation with her own Ability? Interesting~"
Xuan Mo, hearing the doctor's words, moved his lips but said nothing. He lowered his head with a cold expression, completely different from his usual charming and carefree demeanor.
"What happened to my sister?"
Listening to Xuan Mo's indifferent tone, the doctor's smile remained unchanged, but a fleeting shadow crossed his eyes. Then he frowned, looking quite troubled.
"Your sister was injured. Although I placed her in cryogenic stasis to slow down the spread of the virus in her body, it has already been three years. If we can't develop a vaccine soon, mutation... will be inevitable."
Xuan Mo clenched his fists tightly before hesitantly speaking.
"Chuze has uncovered my identity, so I hope you can provide some assistance to those in the base."
"Oh? You've been exposed?"
Xuan Mo saw the doctor's cold and ruthless expression, and a chill ran through his heart, but he calmly said, "It can't be my problem. I have carefully studied Liu You'er for two years just to meet him."
Hearing this, the doctor's ruthless look softened a bit. As for Xuan Mo's strength (which was his acting skills), he still believed in it and could only speculate that Chuze might have developed some device he was unaware of.
"Forget it, let's drop this matter. I will help you."
Seeing the doctor relent, Xuan Mo felt a slight sense of relief, but he stood there motionless.
The doctor, noticing he wasn't leaving, said impatiently, "Why are you still here? Do you have something to say?"
"I want to see my sister!"
A hint of caution flashed in the doctor's mind, but his face showed confusion as he asked, "Why do you suddenly want to see her? Didn't you just see her last month?"
"Chuze is too difficult to deal with; it might be a bit challenging to resolve things with him in a short time. So, I want to see her again..."
The doctor continued to scrutinize Xuan Mo for a moment after hearing this. Seeing the pain in his eyes, he sighed and said, "Alright then, go change into a sterile suit. I'll arrange it now."
"Yes."
As Xuan Mo went down, the doctor's gaze turned sharp. He pressed down on the table surface, and patterns of a keyboard appeared on it. Then he clicked on the keyboard and coldly said, "Go handle it; Hurricane wants to see his sister."
On the other end, someone lazily replied, "Okay~"
Life Storage Chamber
Xuan Mo hesitated outside for a moment but eventually walked in.
In the center of the room was a metallic rectangular box large enough to hold a person. On top of the box was tempered glass, through which one could clearly see an eleven or twelve-year-old girl lying inside.
She lay inside wearing a loose white dress, her skin as white as snow, and her long black hair spread out beneath her like silk. Her expression was peaceful, pure like an angel. However, there was a five-centimeter-long scratch on her calf, and the wound had completely turned black.
One month after the apocalypse began.
“Ruru, you and Sister Weiwei stay here and don’t run around. Brother and Uncle Sun Bei will go find something to eat.”
Sun Bei: “...Even though I’m Weiwei’s uncle, I’m clearly the same age as you guys…”
Of course, his words were completely ignored by the siblings, while Tian Weiwei wore a hint of melancholy in her eyes, remaining silent.
The little girl called Ruru lowered her head, seemingly lost in thought. Xuan Mo felt a pang of sympathy and was about to comfort her sister when she suddenly looked up, revealing her cute little tiger teeth, and fiercely said, “If you die outside, I absolutely won’t help you collect your body!”
Then she turned and sweetly smiled at Sun Bei, saying, “Goodbye, Uncle Sun Bei~”
Sun Bei: “…”
Seeing her sister being so sensible, Xuan Mo smiled with relief.
“...Got it! You little brat! Just wait until I come back to deal with you!”
Then he glanced at Tian Weiwei, and after receiving a determined look from her, he took a machete and peeked out the window. Seeing no Zombies, he quickly ran outside with Sun Bei.
Since the apocalypse had just begun and they were on the edge of the city, there were relatively few Zombies. About two kilometers away was a medium-sized supermarket. Although there probably wasn’t much food left inside, there should still be some. Ruru was too small to run that far; she would definitely lack the stamina and would be doomed if she encountered any Zombies.
Thus, he could only call on his good buddy who had fought through the sea of corpses with him in college for help. As for Tian Weiwei, since she hadn’t shown any special powers, it was safer for her to stay home and take care of Ruru. Both he and Sun Bei had inexplicably enhanced their bodies, so they went out to search for food.
For some reason, ever since they narrowly escaped from the siege of the Horde, a power had awakened within him that greatly increased his speed and strength. However, although this energy now flowed obediently through his meridians, he couldn’t unleash it smoothly.
He had discussed this matter with Sun Bei, but Sun Bei said he didn’t feel anything unusual and could unleash his abilities quite smoothly. So he chose to ignore it for now.
It's not a bad thing anyway, and now he can easily take down seven or eight Zombies at once.
"Roar~"
A sharp scream echoed, completely different from the low groans of a Common Zombie. Instead, it carried a sense of pressure. Xuan Mo and Sun Bei, although they had already secured food, exchanged puzzled glances and stealthily observed from behind the wall.
They saw a Zombie gnawing on someone's thigh suddenly convulse on the ground in pain. A hint of black appeared in its previously grayish eyes, and its nails became sharper. In the next moment, it jumped up and stared directly in their direction.
"Damn! Sun Bei! Run!!!"
Xuan Mo didn't understand what was happening, but the intense sense of danger immediately commanded his brain to act.
Sun Bei was taken aback. It was just a Zombie; was it really necessary to run? He could take it down in a matter of seconds!
Sun Bei had a flamboyant personality, and a month was enough for him to transform from fear to adaptation.
Moreover, he had too much free time at school, so he often read novels where characters had extraordinary abilities. After discovering his own Ability, he felt like spring had arrived. After experiencing several close calls, he imagined himself as the protagonist of those stories, dreaming of building a harem and saving the world. Running away from a small Zombie was simply not his style.
So, he raised the knife in his hand.
"Damn! Have you lost your mind?!"
Xuan Mo watched as Sun Bei stood there staring at the Zombie instead of running away. Gritting his teeth, he couldn't just leave him behind and ran back. At that moment, the Zombie lunged viciously at Sun Bei...
