"You... how are you..."
"Alive?"
Lu Feng's lips curled into a smile, his eyes filled with a sickly madness. The image of Sun Xiang's relieved yet simple smile flashed in his mind, along with the horrific scene of him being torn to pieces by a group of Zombies.
His eyes twitched uncontrollably from the madness, his teeth chattering as he began to apply pressure with his feet. Liu Xinlian let out a cry of pain, and just as she felt her head was about to explode, a drop of blood fell in front of her.
Lu Feng's movements halted, and his expression instantly returned to indifference, as if the person who had just shown that twisted expression was someone else entirely.
He slowly lowered his head, revealing a slender and seemingly weak hand piercing through his abdomen, thick black blood dripping steadily from that hand.
He flared his nostrils but did not turn around or retaliate; he simply moved his foot away from Liu Xinlian's head.
"Are you trying to stop me?" Lu Feng asked, puzzled and confused, as his hand unconsciously wandered over his pale lips.
"Slurp."
The person behind him did not respond and decisively withdrew their hand.
Lu Feng stumbled slightly from the loss of support, clutching his wound as he stepped aside before leaning against the wall. Upon seeing Liu You'er, he gave a strange smile that quickly turned indifferent.
Liu You'er paid no attention to his gaze. The blood-red hue at the edge of her pupils had seeped in about half a millimeter, and her right wrist and entire hand were covered in blood, looking quite gruesome.
She now resembled a machine, her face expressionless and her eyes vacant. She glanced down at Liu Xinlian, who lay on the ground like a rag, and her eyes regained a glimmer of light. She bent down and lifted Liu Xinlian up, forcing her to meet her gaze.
"Who came up with this idea?"
Liu You'er's voice was hoarse, like a deflated plastic bag. Her tone was flat throughout, as if she were reciting lines from a text, yet her presence was powerful and imposing without any anger.
"If I tell you what I said, will you let me go?" Liu Xinlian weakly asked, as if she might die at any moment.
Liu You'er maintained her expression, using the killing intent emanating from her to provide an answer.
If she didn't speak, death would come even faster!
“Ha, hahaha~ I won't tell you! You could never guess! She has wanted you dead for so long! Hahahaha~”
Perhaps the fear had been suppressed for too long, or perhaps she knew she was doomed and hoped to be completely stripped of her despair; she laughed maniacally, even more so than before.
Liu You'er silently watched her laugh until tears streamed down her face. After receiving all of her provocative glances, she parted her lips slightly and uttered three words.
“Liu Xinxuan.”
Upon seeing Liu Xinlian's dazed expression, the answer was self-evident. The corner of her mouth curled up as she gently whispered in her ear, “Go to hell. Don't worry, it will hurt~”
When Chuze arrived at the supermarket, this was the scene he encountered.
Liu You'er sat cross-legged on the ground, covered in blood. Surrounding her were chunks of torn flesh, and from the bones among those red pieces, it was easy to determine that they had once belonged to a living human. Judging by the color of the blood, death had likely occurred less than ten minutes ago.
“You're here~”
Still... a bit late.
Chuze looked at Liu You'er's awkward smile and changing pupils but maintained his poker face as he approached her. His steps were somewhat unsteady, unlike before when they seemed meticulously measured.
“You really don't listen.”
Chuze spoke in a calm tone as if he hadn't seen the scene before him. He squatted down in front of Liu You'er and began gently wiping her face with his sleeve until the bloodstains were cleaned away.
If his assistant had been shocked to see him show any emotion before, witnessing him—who had a severe cleanliness obsession and would change clothes if someone touched him—wiping her face with his sleeve would surely make them think he had gone mad!
Liu You'er quietly watched Chuze clean her face, feeling the cold yet unusually gentle movements. The killing intent within her gradually softened under those actions.
“I killed someone.”
Chuze heard no response, only a calm "mm" as if Liu You'er was merely discussing the weather with him.
"She's my cousin."
"Mm."
He continued to respond lightly.
"I literally tore her apart with my mouth while she cried, but I didn't stop!"
Liu You'er looked at Chuze with a sense of glee, only to find him still unfazed, which left her feeling somewhat defeated, as if she had punched a pillow. At that moment, Chuze began wiping his hands again.
"Don't you have anything to say?"
Chuze continued his actions, glancing up at Liu You'er and asking, "What do you want me to say?"
Liu You'er was momentarily speechless, feeling a bit troubled.
Why doesn't he avoid me? Why doesn't he reject me? Why doesn't he think I'm a monster?
"I have a congenital condition that leaves my leg cells underdeveloped, making it impossible for me to walk, yet I'm a genius."
Liu You'er was taken aback by this statement, feeling somewhat confused.
In elementary school, he excelled academically and received much attention from teachers, but it also attracted bullying.
Books were torn, assignments were thrown away, wheelchairs were hidden, and he was even pushed down a slope, resulting in head injuries.
Listening to Chuze's indifferent tone as if recounting someone else's story made Liu You'er's heart ache, and her lips trembled slightly.
"When I fell to the ground, everyone just looked at me lying there with either laughter or pity. Some even called me a monster and said I should die. Not a single person came to help me; I was in the second year of middle school then."
"I thought at that moment that dying like that wouldn't be so bad. If I were to exist in another life, I wanted to be an ordinary and healthy person. But then, a little girl appeared."
He spoke, his eyes fixed on Liu You'er with a look of concern.
“She looked no more than six or seven years old, just starting elementary school, yet she used her frail body to help me up with all her might, all the while scolding the onlookers with a flushed face, saying they were all bad people and that they should be taken away by the police.”
“How childish,” Liu You'er said lightly, feeling a bit sour and very heartbroken inside.
Chuze continued, “The boy who pushed me felt embarrassed after being scolded by a child and couldn’t retaliate, so he came to help. But that little girl thanked him with a bright smile, making him blush. After that, he never bullied me again and would even chase away those who caused trouble for me. However, I soon went home to rest.”
“What about that girl?”
Chuze paused and said, “I thought I would never see that little girl again, but unexpectedly one day, she reappeared in my world, curiously opening my door as if a ray of sunshine had come in.”
At this point, Chuze's expression softened into a gentle smile, as if the ice and snow had melted instantly, illuminating Liu You'er’s entire world.
“Indeed, the blood-red hue in his pupils no longer spread, and the zombie-like state began to slowly fade away.”
Hearing this, Liu You'er snapped back from her astonishment at his smile with a soft “hmph,” feeling a bit shy to meet Chuze's clear gaze.
In the days that followed, this scene was deeply etched in Liu You'er’s mind; no matter what she encountered, she would remember that she had lost sunlight but had also given it.
