Chuze successfully developed a Zombie vaccine, giving hope to humanity struggling in despair during the apocalypse, earning the title of "Father of Dawn."
Countless people flocked to the B City Base, continuously expanding its strength. Moreover, humans no longer had to worry about being mutated after being scratched.
As time passed, B City Base grew to the size of a medium-sized city and continued to expand. Although the Zombie Tide constantly attacked, the base persevered and established a comprehensive defense system.
Those Zombies whose bodies were not severely damaged were captured and injected with the vaccine, most of whom were cured, except for those with severe body corrosion who could not be saved even if they reverted to human form.
Every month, the base would send a small number of high-level Ability users to clear the surrounding environment, capturing mutated plants and animals for research. Despite casualties, many still volunteered.
This was because they not only received generous rewards but also ensured their families were well taken care of. Most importantly, they could obtain upgraded potions.
Although the base occupied only 1% of the land that humans had before the apocalypse, things would eventually get better, wouldn't they?
Five years later
"Oh dear~ Nian Nian, slow down a bit; Grandma can't keep up!"
In B City Base, a crowd surged as an eight or nine-year-old boy turned around. He was White, bright-eyed, and when he smiled, a little tiger tooth showed, making him incredibly cute.
"Oh no~ Today is the day Uncle Xuanmo comes back! We have to hurry; I want to be the first to greet him! Grandma, come on~"
Saying this, the child hugged his grandmother's arm and helped her run faster.
The old woman smiled, her face full of wrinkles: "Alright~ Whatever Nian Nian says goes~ Let's hurry~"
"Zila"
The massive door swung open, and on the main road, a group of people riding evolved animals appeared, fully armed. Despite having varying degrees of bloodstains and not being particularly clean, they all exuded confidence and stood tall.
Upon seeing them, the crowd gathered on both sides erupted in excited cheers, shouting, "Heroes! Heroes! Heroes!"
Of course, there were also some who were starstruck by their idols.
"Wow~ My Xuan Xuan is so handsome, he's just too cool~"
"Hmph~ My Yue Yue is the real handsome one, look how sunny his smile is."
"Go away, you bunch of infatuated fans. Those two are clearly a couple!"
"Ahem."
Sitting atop a White Wolf, Liu Yue happened to hear this remark. He looked up to see a tall Ice Queen had said it. Despite her cold demeanor, her expression was so certain that it seemed genuine.
"Is this what they call contrast cuteness...666666"
Xuan Mo continued to smile nonchalantly; he was already used to it until he heard the voice below calling "Uncle Xuanmo," which made him raise an eyebrow. Sure enough, Nian Nian was smiling happily.
"You little brat! How many times have I told you to call me brother!"
He shook his head helplessly, this time his smile was sincere.
He guided the White Wolf over and picked him up, respectfully saying to the elderly lady beside him, "I’m back."
The old man laughed excitedly, "It's good to be back! It's good to be back! Today I'll make you braised pork! Hehe, I'm off now!"
Xuan Mo nodded and watched the old man leave before asking Nian Nian, "Where did Dream Return go?"
The little boy pouted and said, "She got sick again and couldn't come. Grandma is in a hurry to go back and take care of her."
Xuan Mo raised an eyebrow. "Then why are you here? Aren't you going to take care of your sister?"
Seeing Xuan Mo's expression, the little boy acted coy and said, "Oh, I just missed you! I'll go back soon!"
Xuan Mo rolled her eyes and handed him a Transformers model. "Alright then, I have things to do. You should head back first."
"Got it!"
The boy quickly jumped down, smiled at Xuan Mo, and ran off in a flash.
"You little rascal!"
He shook his head and walked away.
In the laboratory,
Chuze stared at the person lying asleep on the bed. After checking her condition, he helped her move her limbs a bit to prevent muscle atrophy—something he had done every day for the past five years.
After half an hour of activity, he sat down beside her, held the woman's hand gently, and said softly, "Liu You'er, how much longer are you going to sleep? It's all in the past now; no one will blame you."
"The oasis is gone, but you saved Nian Nian and Dream Return. They have grown up, and that grandmother, she often mentions you too~"
Saying this, Chuze kissed Liu You'er's hand and said, "The Zombie virus in your body has been eradicated. When you wake up, you'll be human again, and everything will start anew~"
"…"
After talking for what seemed like an hour to himself, Chuze finally adjusted her blanket, took a lingering glance at her peaceful sleeping face, and left.
In the lounge outside the laboratory
"Is my sister still not awake?"
Chuze gently nodded, as a form of response.
"I've been wanting to say something."
Chuze glanced at Liu Yue, turned his chair away, indicating he wasn't listening.
Liu Yue saw this and slammed the table angrily, "Hey! Are you kidding? That's my sister! I still have things to say in private. Why is it only you who can see her alone and not me? That's unfair!"
Chuze looked at him but continued to ignore him.
"Hey hey~ This is too much! Xuan Mo, don't you have anything to say?"
Xuan Mo silently stood by and lazily replied, "I don't care as long as I can see her."
"What the heck! You have no stance at all! I look down on you, you little person!!"
"Liu Yue, if you keep making noise, you won't be allowed in my lab anymore," Chuze said, adjusting his glasses calmly.
"Oh come on, that's ridiculous! I have to see her myself this time. You, being an ice block, will definitely bore my sister to death..." Xuan Mo watched the clawing Liu Yue and the unperturbed Chuze, a wicked smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
Such scenes happened once a month, and he was already used to it. Shaking his head, he peered through the slightly ajar door.
At that time, Liu You'er had been injected with the vaccine and quickly reverted back to human form. However, this was actually a bad thing because she was severely injured. The result of fighting against hundreds of failed beastmen left her body almost entirely covered in wounds; it was a miracle she was still alive. Yet, humans are always greedy...
If only she could wake up, that would be perfect. All he wanted was for her to be okay.
Outside the door, the noise continued, while inside, it was as quiet as another world.
Various precision instruments were operating, emitting beeping sounds. The person on the bed had skin so pale it seemed transparent, as if she would shatter upon touch. She lay motionless under a thin blanket, with medication slowly flowing into her veins through a transparent tube.
The sounds from outside reached her ears to some extent. In the past, she would have had no response at all; however, today seemed a bit different.
Under the glare of the incandescent lights, the woman on the bed had her eyelashes flutter lightly before opening her eyes, revealing pitch-black pupils.
