Life at the Super Soldier Academy continues, and the rapid movement of the Academy Fortress initially worried the teachers, but the students did not react much.
Rek continues his academy life. Two days later, although the Super Soldier Academy Fortress is in Dark Space, today the academy's teaching building and many roads within the Fortress are adorned with numerous red lanterns and decorative flowers, along with some colorful little bulbs.
The annual New Year has arrived; today is New Year's Eve. In the Main World, today is a day for family reunions.
Although there is a time difference between Dark Space and the Main World, Dark Space has its own method of recording time according to calculations by the Star Alliance Military.
Today marks the New Year in Dark Space.
Even though the Super Soldier Academy Fortress received a mission from Star Alliance Sanctuary Base a few days ago, it does not hinder the celebration of the New Year while the Super Soldier Academy Fortress is in operation.
In the morning, Rek and Alice got up early to paste window decorations on their dormitory glass. Of course, the decorations they cut out were not very good-looking, and Alice even brought some red ribbons.
"It's just a New Year celebration! It looks like a wedding. Besides, we won't be staying in the dorm tonight; we're going outside the Fortress to release Kongming Lanterns tonight. There's no need to hang red lanterns!" Rek said to Alice.
"I want to! Come on, let's hurry to class. Today Master Muya said there would only be one class in the morning, and then we have a holiday," Alice urged Rek.
After leaving their dormitory and having breakfast in the cafeteria, they rushed to their classroom.
Most of the students they encountered along the way were very happy; everyone agreed not to wear uniforms today. Both teachers and students wore their casual clothes to class.
Master Muya also did not wear her Special Class Teacher Uniform today but instead wore that new alluring black evening gown she had recently acquired.
As Rek walked into the classroom and saw Maya's charming appearance, he couldn't help but want to rush over and give her a hug.
"Alright, since it's New Year’s today, we won’t have a lesson."
"Tonight, the academy is hosting a New Year Ball. It's quite casual, just some food and dancing. If anyone wants to perform, they can take the stage to showcase their talents. Do you two want to go?" Maya asked Rek and Alice, looking at Rek with an expectant gaze.
"Alice and I have plans to release Kongming Lanterns outside the Fortress tonight. We’ll be spending New Year's at the Metal Turret by the Academy Fortress exit, not going to any boring campus ball," Alice interjected.
Maya paused for a moment after hearing Alice's words, her expression slightly changing. After thinking for a bit, she said, "If you spend tonight outside the Fortress, even if you want to come back later, you'll have to be quarantined for Eight Hours. It wouldn't be good to miss out on returning to your dorm for New Year's. Why don't you release the Kongming Lanterns tomorrow instead? Join me at the New Year Ball. I need a dance partner for the Academy New Year Ball tonight; Rek, would you be interested in being my partner?" Maya directly asked Rek, ignoring Alice's reaction.
"Rek, you promised me a few days ago that you'd accompany me to release Kongming Lanterns outside the Fortress tonight. We spent several nights assembling them!" Alice exclaimed urgently. She couldn't hold back her frustration at Maya's words; humility was not in Alice's vocabulary.
"Let Rek choose for himself. Rek, are you planning to join me for the lively academy ball tonight, or do you want to go with Alice outside the Fortress, braving the cold wind while releasing Kongming Lanterns and then facing quarantine?" Maya said, straightening her posture and revealing a hint of allure.
"Rek, you decide! Who do you want to go with tonight?" Alice added, glaring at Maya in annoyance.
Rek felt torn; honestly, he wanted to attend the campus ball with Maya, but he had already promised Alice a few days ago, making it difficult to refuse now.
"Um, let me think about it. I'll give you an answer this afternoon," Rek replied.
"Hmph, Rek, if you don't come with me to release the Kongming Lanterns outside the Fortress, I won't talk to you anymore." Alice looked at Rek's hesitant expression, and when she saw him sneak a glance at Maya, she knew Rek was wavering.
Alice, angry, stood up and walked to the classroom door, kicking it open and running out.
"Alice!" Rek called after her, then turned back to look at Master Muya, who was dressed in an alluring evening gown.
"She's just a bit upset. If you really want to go release the Kongming Lanterns with her, I'll find someone else to be my dance partner," Maya said, noticing Rek's troubled expression.
"I'll go check on Alice. Around five o'clock this evening, I'll wait for you downstairs at the Teacher's Dormitory so we can go to the ball together," Rek replied to Maya.
Just a moment ago, facing invitations from both sides, Rek felt it would be wrong to refuse either of them. As he struggled with his dilemma, a solution suddenly came to mind.
Thinking about his clones, Rek realized he had a way to resolve this choice.
He still had clones that looked exactly like him and could be controlled by him using Mental Energy.
The Permanent Clone Technique provided by the War God System was perfect for tonight's situation, solving the dilemma between Alice and Maya.
"Great! Then go persuade Alice!
I'll be downstairs at the Teacher's Dormitory at five o'clock sharp, waiting for you," Maya said triumphantly. Hearing Rek agree to be her dance partner made her very happy.
At the Super Soldier Academy Fortress, Maya didn't have many male teacher friends.
There was only one male teacher from her sophomore year whom she had spoken to a few times, but he had died during a previous mission.
The only other option was Orland, the first-year Special Class One teacher who had pursued her before. However, Orland was currently in a hospital bed receiving mental and physical therapy and was hidden away in some closed-off ward of the infirmary, unable to leave.
Maya had thought that if Rek refused to be her dance partner, she would simply skip tonight's New Year Ball.
After all, as a woman, it would be quite awkward to attend the Academy New Year Ball alone without a dance partner.
"Alright, I'll be there on time," Rek said, standing up and walking out of the classroom toward his dormitory.
Rek knew that Alice didn't have anywhere else to go, so she was probably just angry and headed back to her dorm.
Twenty minutes later, Rek arrived at the dormitory, pushed open the door, and saw Alice sitting on her Metal Bed, holding a Kongming Lantern and crying.
Seeing Alice, who had lived through many hardships, in tears with two streams of tears on her little face surprised Rek.
"What happened? Who bullied my Alice? Just wait until I deal with them! Tell me who it is, who dares to bully you? I'll take revenge for you," Rek shouted loudly in the room.
"You bad guy, you liar! You still know how to come back! Weren't you tempted by Master Muya to be her dance partner?" Alice said angrily, wiping her tears with her small hands when she saw Rek return.
"You have no idea, Alice. After you left, Master Muya tried every possible way to tempt me into being her dance partner and accompanying her to tonight's Academy New Year Ball. She promised me numerous benefits and conditions; it was as if she wanted to offer herself to me," Rek said, pausing as he looked at Alice's anxious expression.
"But then I remembered that I promised you we would celebrate the New Year together tonight. We are going to release the Kongming Lanterns outside Fortress. We have spent several nights making these Kongming Lanterns. So I resolutely declined Master Muya's invitation and gave up those tempting conditions. I told her that tonight I would only choose to go outside Fortress with you to release the Kongming Lanterns. Then I came out."
"Great, at least you have a bit of conscience," Alice said, turning her tears into a smile as she ran over to Rek and gave him an enthusiastic hug, collapsing into his arms.
"Alright, you're not a child anymore. Let's quickly check the Kongming Lantern one last time."
After that, I planned to take a good nap in the afternoon so I would have the energy to stay up late outside the Fortress at night, Rek said.
"You go ahead and sleep. I'll check the Kongming Lantern myself. You just rest well in bed and conserve your energy.
When you accompany me outside the Fortress for New Year's tonight, you mustn't be sleepy," Alice said with a smile as she hugged the Kongming Lantern and began to carefully inspect it.
"Okay, then I'll rest," Rek replied and lay down on the bed.
Rek closed his eyes, not actually sleeping but calling upon the War God System in his mind.
"War God System, I want to see what my Servant, Elder Starshine, has been up to in the Biohazard Virtual World.
What has he been doing these past two or three years since I left the Biohazard World with the Moon Goddess?" Rek spoke to the War God System in his mind.
"Host, do you want to watch a documentary or observe Elder Starshine's current actions in real-time?
If you choose to watch a documentary, it won't change the time ratio in the Biohazard Virtual World.
If you opt for real-time observation, the time ratio will need to be adjusted to one-to-one," the voice of the War God System echoed in Rek's mind.
"Just a documentary is fine; no need to change the time ratio. Let Elder Starshine continue to develop his influence; what we both lack right now is time," Rek said aloud.
Then, a video projection that only Rek could see appeared in his mind.
This documentary video centered around Elder Starshine as the protagonist, resembling a long serialized drama from his perspective.
After Rek saw him leave the small Fortress with the Moon Goddess, Elder Starshine immediately arranged for someone to tally the available resources.
Subsequently, Elder Starshine ordered the existing technicians within his Small Fortress to establish communication equipment and produce numerous transmitters capable of broadcasting messages.
Elder Starshine then summoned several individuals from the Fortress who had worked in advertising and screenwriting before the outbreak of the Biochemical Crisis.
"I need you to write promotional materials for me.
Promote my territory, which is called the Starry Empire.
Any living human who comes to the Starry Empire will be able to eat their fill without the threat of Zombies.
Make my territory sound appealing.
The central idea is that I am now expanding my territory and preparing to form the Human Legion to eliminate Zombies and restore humanity as the dominant force on this planet.
Do you understand? I currently lack manpower, so you have half a day to write. Once completed, submit it to me for review. If approved, there will be food rewards, and those who perform exceptionally well may even become officials or heads of the propaganda department in my imperial legion," Starry Glory's head floated in the air as he spoke to them.
Upon hearing Starry Commandant's words, these individuals, who had been disheartened since the outbreak of the Biochemical Crisis, felt as if they had been invigorated.
After the outbreak of the Biochemical Crisis Virus, literature and advertising had nearly been eradicated, and their skills that had sustained them for half their lives were rendered useless in the Biohazard World.
Today, being summoned by their Small Fortress's Overall Commander, the monster Starry Head, made them somewhat apprehensive.
Although Elder Starshine had established and protected this fortress, he was ruthless and unpredictable. Before coming here, they feared that Elder Starshine would reprimand them for idling away their time without contributing or even expel them from the fortress.
However, upon hearing that Starry Glory wanted them to write articles and that they could be reused and promoted if they did well, their excitement ignited like fire in their eyes. Their spirits trembled with anticipation as they eagerly nodded in agreement to Elder Starshine's request and hurried back to write.
A few days later, Rek saw that Elder Starshine sent out some food-seeking teams. When they left the fortress, they would deploy some launchers on the high points of buildings or in places that were difficult for Zombies to destroy.
These launchers began to continuously broadcast the greatness of the Starry Empire several hours after the teams departed, proclaiming that Elder Starshine was the savior who would lead humanity to eliminate the Zombies and restore human civilization and glory. They also mentioned the location of the Starry Empire, describing the Small Fortress at Starry Head as a paradise for humanity, the last refuge where all those from the past could be accepted and provided with food.
"This script is written so well; I should let Master Muya hear it when there's a chance. Perhaps after listening, she can deliver the Savior's Declaration even better tonight. I wonder if Maya is still using the small radio I gave her before to continue her Savior's Declaration," Rek thought.
Rek continued to observe the developments in Biohazard World. The floating head of Elder Starshine appeared in several nearby cities.
With immense power, Elder Starshine swept through the Zombies in those cities. As long as he didn't encounter a Fifth-Stage Zombie, he could easily eliminate them. Even when facing a Fifth-Stage Zombie, he could retreat unscathed.
In just over ten days, Elder Starshine continuously brought back survivors and supplies.
This caused the population of his previous Small Fortress to surge several times.
Once the number of missions and vehicles reached a certain level, Elder Starshine began leading his newly formed army to attack a Human Military Base occupied by a Zombie Horde.
The Fifth-Stage Zombies and a Zombie Horde that outnumbered Elder Starshine's forces by several times were surprisingly defeated by his extraordinary command ability, with many human soldiers coordinating their efforts in battle.
