“Moon Goddess, if you have an urgent matter and need to leave, just let me know in that world, and I will arrange for your return. Otherwise, I will pull you back at night,” Rek said.
“This time, I plan for you to stay in the Biochemical World for three months. The time ratio in the Biohazard World is one day to one year, so you can return at night,” Rek continued.
“Alright, let's set it for three months. That should be enough time for me to develop a few detailed formulas for Gene Drugs and also check the skull of Elder Starshine,” Moon Goddess replied as she stepped into the time portal opened by Rek.
After sending Moon Goddess off, Rek lay down on the bed to rest.
Around five in the evening, Rek pulled Moon Goddess back from the Biohazard World.
When she returned and appeared next to Rek, Moon Goddess looked the same as when she first entered, but her mental state seemed much better than before.
“What a peculiar genetic form of Alien Species! It turns out Elder Starshine exists in such a unique way. I suspect this is the correct direction for human evolution!” Moon Goddess exclaimed.
“Forget about Starry Elder for now. How are the potion formulas coming along?” Rek asked.
“I’ve developed three detailed genetic formulas. Give me two or three days, and I can at least produce two of them. Why are you in such a hurry for the potions?” Moon Goddess questioned Rek.
“You can understand that in two or three days, I need to carry out a mission—one that feels very dangerous and uncertain. So I want to get some potions from you; they might save my life,” Rek explained.
Upon hearing Rek's words, Moon Goddess was taken aback. “Why are you only telling me now that you're going on a dangerous mission? If I had known while I was in the Biohazard World, I wouldn't have bothered with Elder Starshine and could have produced more detailed formulas by now. Why don't you send me back for another trip?” Moon Goddess said with concern and regret as she looked at Rek.
"You have enough time in the Academy Fortress over the next couple of days to produce two or three Gene Serums, so there's no need to go back."
"I'm just keeping the potions for preparation, and I don't even know how dangerous the mission I'm going to undertake is. It's uncertain whether your potions will be useful," Rek said.
"Then come find me in two days, and I'll give you three prepared Gene Serums," Moon Goddess said firmly.
"Alright, Moon Goddess. If you can't manage to make three Gene Serums, two will suffice. Just don't overwork yourself," Rek replied.
"Got it, don't worry," Moon Goddess assured him.
"I have a class mission to attend to, so I need to leave your infirmary now. I'll return after completing my mission in Dark Space in two or three days and come find you at the Super Soldier Academy," Rek said.
"Okay, see you then. You go ahead and take care of your business. Stay safe, and remember to come get the Gene Drug from me in two or three days before you undertake that risky mission you're unsure about," Moon Goddess said.
After Rek nodded in agreement, he left the infirmary and headed towards the military weapons depot where he had arranged to meet Maya.
When Rek arrived at the weapons depot, he found Maya and Alice were already there.
Maya was instructing Alice on how to operate a medium-sized Laser Cannon Hover Tank.
The metallic vehicle stood several meters tall, with a massive laser cannon mounted at the front.
"This is the weapon for our mission. The Academy Fortress allows us to use heavy weaponry against Time-Space Beast Variants. During combat, just make sure not to damage their eyeballs."
"Rek, you'll be in charge of driving, Alice will handle reconnaissance and assist me, while I'll take on the role of main gunner," Maya instructed.
"Alright." Rek replied readily. This was the first time since arriving at the Super Soldier Academy Fortress that he could operate heavy weaponry. Rek thought that the Academy Fortress must be taking this operation quite seriously, as deploying such heavy weapon tanks in large numbers also consumed energy.
Maya began to explain to Rek how to operate the Laser Cannon Hover Tank.
After listening, Rek understood that he could drive it.
This Laser Cannon Hover Tank was similar to other models of tanks he had driven in his previous life; it was just a matter of a few control buttons.
"Let's go, Rek. You drive slowly at first. Once we leave the Academy Fortress, we can speed up. By then, you should be able to handle it since you have experience driving a Hover Motorcycle," Maya said to Rek.
After more than ten minutes, a hover tank resembling a turret drove out of the Academy Fortress along with numerous other tanks, heading towards the designated location.
"This area is our responsibility.
Rek, pay attention to receive the action signals from the Academy Fortress. The Academy Fortress will send the coordinates of the Time-Space Beast Variant every minute. If a Time-Space Beast Variant appears in our area, I will immediately activate the laser cannon to attack.
If it appears in a nearby area, follow the arrangements from the Academy Fortress Operation Command Center.
If coordinated operations are needed, the command center will send you a movement route map; just drive according to that map," Maya explained to Rek.
Maya noticed that Rek was driving the Hover Tank quite well along the way; not only was he fast, but he also drove very smoothly. She felt somewhat reassured about him.
"Got it," Rek replied.
In the following hours, Rek, Alice, and Maya kept an eye on the information sent back by the Academy Fortress. The three of them also monitored the radar information provided by the Laser Cannon Hover Tank to see if they could discover any Time-Space Beast Variants ahead of time.
However, the Time-Space Beast Variant had always been far from the area they were responsible for.
In the most recent encounter, it was two defense zones away, and they hadn't even had a chance to fire.
Just as Rek was waiting in boredom, a red Alien Species marker appeared on the radar of the Laser Cannon Hover Tank.
"Attention, the Time-Space Beast Variant has appeared. Prepare to attack, left front," Rek reminded.
Maya also saw the display on the radar and immediately adjusted the turret to lock on and fire.
The display time for the Time-Space Beast Variant, which was updated every three minutes by the academy, was still somewhat delayed compared to the radar of the combat Laser Cannon Hover Tank.
Laser beams shot out from the turret as Rek tried to drive the tank steadily closer to the Time-Space Beast Variant.
Through the observer, Rek saw that this Time-Space Beast Variant was already covered in numerous wounds, with green blood flowing from its injuries.
Its body resembled three stacked crocodiles, with a massive head and a jagged mouth gasping for breath.
At this moment, the Alien Species had been besieged by nearly all external combat forces of the Super Soldier Academy Fortress for a day and night.
The regional combat plan of the Academy Fortress had restricted the resting time of the Time-Space Beast Variant, making it constantly under attack. Even if it teleported away, it would be struck after jumping a short distance.
Although this Time-Space Beast Variant possessed teleportation abilities and could initially teleport over longer distances, after being continuously hit by numerous attacks, its teleportation intervals had lengthened and its range had shortened. Rek could tell this from a Time Beast coordinate sent by the Academy Fortress every three minutes.
Maya's main cannon fired accurately, hitting the abdomen of the Time Beast three times in a row. The laser beams struck its body, creating fist-sized wounds on the Alien Species' abdomen.
The painful cries of the Time Beast could be heard by Rek as Maya prepared to fire the fourth laser shot. Suddenly, the space around the Time Beast trembled, and it vanished from Rek's line of sight.
"The Time Beast has teleported away. Let's return to the center of our designated area and continue to stand by," Maya said to Rek.
Rek drove the tank back to their original position.
For the next several hours, Rek and the others mostly heard the sounds of gunfire around them, but they did not encounter the Time Beast near their guarded area again.
"Alice, you take a rest first. We'll alternate one person resting for an hour. The Academy Fortress has sent word that they have deployed high-end Genetic Mecha Warriors to encircle the heavily injured Time Beast.
The frequency and distance of the Time Beast's spatial jumps are decreasing.
In a few more hours, we should be able to eliminate the Time Beast. Just hold on a little longer; if we complete this mission, the Academy Fortress command has decided not to recall the external operation teams yet and will send additional combat units. We want to avoid any gaps in personnel or vehicles that might allow the severely injured Time Beast to escape," Maya told Rek and Alice.
"Okay," Alice replied, closing her eyes to sleep. This mission to guard against a Time Beast had dragged on for over ten hours with only brief encounters, which was too boring for her.
An hour later, Alice woke up. Rek handed over control of the driving position to her and went to rest.
Although there were sporadic sounds of gunfire in the distance, the frequency had decreased significantly. Rek estimated that the Genetic Mecha Warriors had already engaged in close combat with the Time Beast.
After resting for another hour, Rek switched with Maya for her rest. Rek controlled the main cannon while Alice took charge of the Hover Tank.
After two rounds of alternating shifts, six hours later, a notification sound came through the public channel of Academy Fortress indicating that the battle had ended.
The Operation Control Room of Academy Fortress sent a message stating that they had successfully hunted down the Time Beast and obtained its Time-Space Beast Eye. The Academy Fortress was arranging for numerous teams outside Fortress to return orderly to Academy Fortress.
Alice was no longer sleeping at this moment. Rek drove the Hover Tank towards the academy.
As they approached the base, Rek saw rows of Hover Tanks and Weapon Transport Vehicles stationed outside the academy, orderly entering several of the Academy Fortress's starting passageways.
"Fortunately, the Academy Fortress expanded the Quarantine Room earlier; otherwise, with so many people returning at once, there wouldn't be enough space."
"Now we can choose to queue in Dark Space for eight hours before entering the Academy Fortress."
"Since there are no available beds in the Quarantine Room, it's a pity we have to enter the Fortress now, but we'll have to sleep on the floor of the Quarantine Room today."
"Do you want to sleep on the ground or wait outside the Fortress for Eight Hours until a batch of quarantined personnel finishes before we enter?" Maya spoke to Rek and Alice.
"I can sleep on this laser cannon Hover Car; there's no rush to go in. I'm not used to sleeping on the ground," Rek replied.
"Me too. I might as well go exercise nearby. It's not often we get to leave the Academy Fortress for a mission, and the number of Alien Species around here is probably pitifully low. Even if they exist, they won't be strong," Alice said.
Maya nodded after hearing this.
"Alright, Rek and I will rest on the Hover Tank. Alice, you can go exercise nearby, but don't stray too far from the Academy Fortress. Contact us if there's any problem," Maya said.
This area had just experienced a large-scale deployment from the Academy Fortress, making it almost a safe zone. The teams that had previously carried out missions had eliminated any Alien Species that weren't Time Beasts out of boredom. Alice going to exercise was more like taking a stroll to experience the environment of Dark Space.
After hearing this, Alice nodded and jumped down from the Hover Tank.
Rek lay in the driver's seat of the Hover Tank, preparing to fall asleep when he heard Maya's voice.
“Rek, do you think our method of extracting resources from Dark Space and killing Alien Species is right or wrong? After all, we have already consumed a large amount of Earth's existing resources.
Now that Earth's resources are depleted, we have come to the territory of these Alien Species to seize their resources,” Maya said, somewhat introspectively, addressing Rek. Rather than seeking an answer from Rek, it felt more like she was talking to herself.
After thinking for a moment, Rek replied, “Maya, every living being wants to survive and has the right to live, and they may even wish to live better.
From our human perspective, since we have discovered Dark Space and there are resources here, we naturally have to exploit them; otherwise, the people of Main World will starve or freeze to death.
However, from the perspective of the Alien Species, we have likely become invaders.
But so what? Even if we become invaders, we must continue to survive and continue to plunder resources. For the sake of survival, killing Alien Species is not wrong.
From the human standpoint, we are the righteous side, and as humans, we do not need to consider the feelings of Alien Species,” Rek stated.
“Alright, even if what you say has some truth to it, if one day extraterrestrial beings come to our Earth to invade us, extract our resources, and hunt us down, that would be the retribution for what we are doing now,” Maya said softly.
“Maya, you are overthinking it. Moreover, you don't need to pity the Alien Species; they are far more powerful than you currently know.
We won't be able to wipe them out in a short time; it would be good enough if they don't wipe us out,” Rek said with a smile.
“With our Star Alliance's strategic weapons and advanced equipment, along with Genetic Mechs, the Alien Species are simply no match for us,” Maya confidently asserted.
After hearing this, Rek realized that persuading Maya now would be futile. Everything would wait until a year later when the Intelligent Alien commander leads the Alien Horde to attack Human Base Fortress; then Maya would change her mind.
