"I entered Dark Space with the identity of Victorious Monkey. I can handle it, what about you? Do you have any Ability? Or how did you get a special recruitment from the Star Alliance Military? And how do you plan to attract Multi-Faced Abnormal Species? Right now, without the War God System and Victorious Monkey, even if we join forces, we might not be able to take on the Weird Species Multi-Faced Being, and we could expose our own Genetic Mech existence." Alice asked Rek.
"Multi-Faced Abnormal Species, I don't want to provoke them. Given our current strength, even if we brought the Multi-Faced Man to my examination site, without the War God System, we probably wouldn't be able to defeat the Multi-Faced Man, this Eerie Species. The last time I managed to kill a Multi-Faced Abnormal Species, it was by luck and with the help of the War God System.
The Dark Space Star Alliance military should be expanding their recruitment. As long as someone shows some special potential for development, the Star Alliance Military will accept them. Moreover, the Star Alliance Military not only recruits combat personnel but also absorbs some medical staff.
I have some research in medicine, and I plan to apply for a special recruitment as a military doctor in the Star Alliance Military in Dark Space," Rek said.
"You have research in medicine? How do you plan to apply? The Gene Serum that the Moon Goddess made for us has been isolated by this space. By the way, you should remember the formulas for these Gene Serum, otherwise, the Moon Goddess wouldn't be able to produce them so quickly. Are you planning to provide the formula for the Gene Serum to the Star Alliance Military?
This is very dangerous. Revealing the formula for the Gene Serum in advance could attract the attention of the Star Alliance Military Research Institute, even if it doesn't provoke annihilation from this space's will. You might be taken away and sent to the Star Alliance Military Research Institute, where you would be confined and studied regarding the Gene Serum.
If that happens, we won't be able to leave this space," Alice said to Rek.
After hearing this, Rek smiled and replied, "It's nothing. Although there is danger in providing the formula for the Gene Serum, if I only propose some medical theories and ideas that could help treat frontline soldiers with my Medical Knowledge, I think the Star Alliance Military Research Institute won't capture me.
Moreover, as part of the frontline forces in Dark Space, they would be more than happy to accept me as a specially recruited Medical Personnel."
"That's a good approach; it's worth a try. What did you do in your Previous Life?" Alice asked Rek.
"In my Previous Life, my original profession was a battlefield doctor before I obtained my Genetic Mech," Rek said plainly.
After Alice and Rek got off the Hover Car, Rek took Alice to catch a train back to his city.
Along the way, Rek and Alice chatted casually.
When they arrived in Rek's city, he felt nostalgic as he recalled the last time he had to run back to this city under the pressure of the War God System during the college entrance exam, nearly running for several days straight.
This time, they returned in just a few hours by train.
After grabbing a bite to eat, Rek led Alice to his place.
Using his Wrist Communicator, he unlocked the door and brought Alice into his small room.
"The college entrance exam is the day after tomorrow. What are you planning to do tomorrow?" Alice asked Rek.
"Tomorrow I'll be in this room thinking about some things. I feel like I've overlooked something important, and if I don't figure it out, it could be dangerous," Rek replied.
"Alright, you think it through. Tomorrow I'll take a stroll around the streets. It's been a while since I returned to the Human Main World, so it's a good opportunity to explore the Main World during this mission," Alice said.
"There's only one bed here. How will you sleep?" Alice pointed at the bed in the room and asked Rek.
"You’re a kid; sleeping on the sofa is fine. Or you can share the bed with me," Rek said as he lay down on his bed.
Alice glared at Rek in frustration, but in the end, she chose to sleep on the sofa instead of sharing the bed with him.
Early the next morning, Alice left early, leaving Rek alone in the room to ponder his thoughts.
Rek thought all day and felt that this Parallel Space was too strange. Although Alice was still the same companion as before, this Alice seemed to know too much, and she appeared to be very familiar with this space, even aware of certain taboos, which was odd.
Alice should be like him, experiencing this Time-Space Sanctuary for the first time; how could she possibly know about the things erased by this space? What made Rek most suspicious was that Alice hadn’t slept in the same bed with him last night. They had shared a dormitory at the Super Soldier Academy before, and the bed was quite large; there should have been enough room for both of them to sleep comfortably.
If this Alice had truly reincarnated many times, she wouldn’t care about such things. Even if she did mind, she would have pushed Rek off the bed and made him sleep on the sofa.
“What if the Alice beside me isn’t the same Alice who entered this space with me but rather an illusion or a version of Alice from this world, who has been informed of certain things by the Time-Space Sanctuary to set a trap for me?” Rek thought to himself.
The more he thought about it, the more suspicious he became, and his doubts about Alice grew larger.
“If Alice is fake, then the Fighting Saint Monkey I’m supposed to find is also fake. This entire space might be an illusion, merely conjured up. Everything I am about to do would be meaningless.
Even if I later find the Hua Tuo Old Robot and conspire with Hua Tuo to change this world, after I leave, I might not actually escape; I might just enter another layer of illusion created by this Time-Space Sanctuary,” Rek thought, feeling increasingly uneasy.
“Could it be that I have developed a persecution complex? No, given the circumstances, the possibility that Alice is fake is already quite high. I can’t continue with this Alice anymore. If I follow the plot guided by this fake Alice, I might forever remain trapped in this false world and never get out,” Rek contemplated as he considered how he could leave this world.
“If Alice is fake and a deception created by this illusory world, then if I kill Alice, will I be able to escape? What would happen if I killed Alice?” Rek pondered this point.
In the evening, Alice returned with a large inflatable mattress that was neatly folded and accompanied by a pump.
Alice placed the mattress in Rek's small room and began inflating it.
"I'm not sleeping on the sofa tonight; your sofa is too hard, and it makes my neck hurt," Alice complained to Rek.
"Look at the inflatable bed I bought; isn't it nice? I chose it after visiting several stores," Alice said, pointing to the inflatable bed on the ground.
Alice then lay down on the inflatable bed, covering herself with a small thin blanket.
Rek walked over to Alice and asked her, "Since we have nothing to do tonight, can you tell me about your past experiences, especially regarding the System Task?"
Hearing Rek's words, Alice paused for a moment. After a few seconds, she replied, "I don't want to think about the System Task anymore; those missions were quite troublesome."
"Why do you think the War God System chose to parasitize my body instead of yours?" Rek asked Alice.
"Maybe it's because you're stronger than I am!" Alice casually replied.
"Do you remember what happened that night when the War God System first parasitized my body in that little grove?" Rek continued to ask.
"That was all in the past; I don't want to think about it anymore. I'm tired and need to sleep," Alice said, closing her eyes and lying down on her new inflatable bed.
Rek immediately initiated Genetic Mecha Armor Transformation, holding the Demon Blade in his hand. He plunged it directly into the blanket beneath him, stabbing it into Alice's abdomen and puncturing the inflatable bed.
The Demon Blade pierced through Alice's body and into the inflatable bed, causing it to start deflating.
"What are you doing! Rek, oh, why are you trying to kill me!" Alice shouted angrily as she opened her eyes.
"If you were really Alice, the one who is with me, I wouldn't kill you. But unfortunately, you are not." Rek said as he activated the devouring energy of the Demon Blade. He felt a tremendous energy emanating from Alice, which he began to absorb.
"How did you find out?" Alice asked Rek in surprise.
But Rek only sneered and did not respond.
Minutes later, Alice's body was consumed and turned to dust. Rek felt that he had absorbed a vast amount of energy, energy that no normal human should possess.
After killing Alice, Rek noticed that the entire space merely shook for a moment and did not disappear; it quickly returned to normal. He realized he was still in this false space.
Now, Rek stood in his room in the Main World, contemplating how he could escape this world.
This familiar room of Rek's, known as Ground, now contained a broken inflatable bed stained with blood, along with a Wrist Communicator and clothes left behind by Alice after her death.
In the clothes, Rek found a box that Alice had brought back from under her bed at the orphanage. He opened the box and saw only a few childish simple Greeting Cards, with nothing else useful inside.
As night fell, Rek couldn't come up with a way to leave. In frustration, he lay down on the bed to sleep, planning to see what would happen with tomorrow's college entrance exam.
When Rek woke up again, he found himself back at the Sunshine Orphanage, standing next to a little girl named Alice, who had blonde hair. They were under an Ancient Tree, while several children played in the distance.
"What happened?" Rek asked the nearby Alice.
"Rek, you are volunteering today, so make sure to spend more time playing with Alice, this little girl.
She usually stares off into space, doesn't talk much, and has very few friends." An old woman in an orphanage uniform approached Rek and said.
Rek listened silently and nodded. He knew that the fake Alice he had killed must have reset the space. He sensed within himself and found that the energy he had absorbed from the dead Alice was gone.
Standing next to Rek, Alice didn't show any special expression, as if she had forgotten about Rek killing her before.
During this conversation with the old woman from the orphanage, Rek didn't mention returning to take the college entrance exam; instead, he said he would stay at the orphanage for a year and take the exam next year.
The old woman was surprised by Rek's words. After a few unsuccessful attempts to persuade him, she gave up.
After the old woman left, Alice said to Rek: "Why do you want to stay in my orphanage? You won't find a way to leave this world here." Alice asked Rek.
"Intuition. My intuition tells me that staying in this orphanage will bring surprises. Besides, even if I leave the orphanage, I have no destination." Rek casually replied to Alice beside him.
"Come on, accompany me back to my room to get something." Alice said to Rek.
Rek nodded and followed Alice to her room.
This time, Alice went under her bed again to get a small box.
Curious, Rek looked at the small box and discovered it only contained some cards—cards depicting people and animals, clearly drawn by a child.
"What do you have in that box?" Rek asked Alice.
"Some greeting cards that my friends from the orphanage gave me on my birthday. It's nothing important," Alice replied to Rek.
After hearing this, Rek snatched the box from Alice's hands and held it high, while his other hand made a tearing motion.
"Rek, stop! What are you doing? Stop it now! This is not a joke. If you dare to ruin my greeting cards, I won't let you off easily," Alice said anxiously, her anger directed at Rek.
Alice stepped forward to retrieve her precious box, but she couldn't take it back from Rek's grasp. She was also afraid of damaging it during the struggle, so she couldn't get her greeting cards back.
"Nothing much! Alice, I already know you're not the same Alice who came with me. I killed one of you before, but then my time was reset, and I ended up back here, encountering a false version of you—or rather, a different Alice from my world.
All I want now is to leave this world. Tell me how, and I'll return your greeting cards," Rek said aloud.
Upon hearing Rek's words, Alice was taken aback and then responded, "You already know I'm not the Alice from your world?"
"Yes, you should be this world's Alice. Although I don't know what kind of deal you made with this Time-Space Sanctuary or its controllers, I can tell you for sure that as long as I can't escape, I will kill you and everyone you care about in this world, leaving only you behind.
Look at this orphanage; it's defenseless. You know some of my abilities. Even if I take my time, I could kill everyone here within an hour," Rek stated.
Hearing Rek's words, this world's Alice glared at him in anger.
