Stepping onto the Execution Platform, Rek felt the lightning flickering around him. Victorious Monkey waved his hand, adding another layer of defensive energy around Rek, Alice, and the Genetic Mech, making Rek feel somewhat better.
Rek looked at the Execution Platform, which stood tall like a grand altar with one hundred and eight steps. The three had already ascended all one hundred and eight steps. At the top was a large hollow space resembling a deep well, sealed on all sides, yet from within this hollow, dim light and flickering lightning could still be seen.
"War God! Don't jump! No!" A girl in purple clothing ran from a distance, crying out as she saw Victorious Monkey about to leap into the Execution Platform. However, she was quickly stopped by several high-ranking officials from the temple.
Rek recognized this Purple-Clad Girl; she was the same girl who had accompanied them when Victorious Monkey first brought them to the temple. It was she who informed Victorious Monkey about some unusual actions involving the temple and the Holy Church. Rek guessed that this Purple-Clad Girl must be a close friend of Victorious Monkey in the temple; otherwise, she wouldn't have come looking for him at such a critical moment.
Victorious Monkey turned to glance at the obstructed Purple-Clad Girl but said nothing. He then jumped off the Execution Platform with Rek and Alice.
"Don't!" The Purple-Clad Girl's scream echoed, filled with tears.
Rek, Alice, and Victorious Monkey entered the deep hollow of the Execution Platform. Rek saw lightning continuously striking from all directions, varying in size and power.
Victorious Monkey swung a Metal Pipe, which transformed into a large golden bell that enveloped Rek, Alice, and himself within it.
The lightning struck the surface of the bell incessantly, producing a piercing sound.
Victorious Monkey remained unfazed, channeling energy to resist the onslaught.
In that moment, Rek lost all sense of time; he couldn't tell if it had been a minute or several days. The deep hollow of the Execution Platform seemed bottomless until a bright circular entrance appeared beside them.
Victorious Monkey guided Rek and Alice as they maneuvered the golden bell swiftly into this bright circle.
Rek and Alice fell into unconsciousness.
When Rek woke up again, he found himself back in the large cave of the Ancient Temporal Sanctuary. Standing beside him was Alice, and both of them were holding two withered branches that were inserted into the body of the Victorious Monkey.
At that moment, the Victorious Monkey also opened his eyes.
"I seem to have had a very long dream, but some of the memories from that dream are a bit unclear. I even encountered you both in the dream," the Victorious Monkey said to Rek and Alice.
"Victorious Monkey, you were taken by this Ancient Temporal Sanctuary into a space. Rek and I went inside to bring you out. If you can't remember what happened in there, that's fine; that world has already ended," Alice replied.
"Let's go. We should leave this cave and continue deeper into the Ancient Temporal Sanctuary. I feel like that Liquid Robot and Redhead are probably close to reaching the core of the Ancient Temporal Sanctuary. If we delay any longer, we might miss some opportunities," Rek said to Alice and the Victorious Monkey, casually handing the withered branch to Alice.
Rek, Alice, and the Victorious Monkey exited the cave, and as they stepped out of the entrance, the cave behind them vanished.
What appeared before them was a metallic world, a city entirely made of advanced technology and metal.
Metal pipes and various intricate wiring crisscrossed throughout the city.
Rek and Alice did not see any living beings in this city; it seemed very desolate. However, many machines were operating within this Metal City, resembling a massive metal processing production base or an energy facility.
"Should we go around this Metal City or enter it?" Alice asked for Rek's opinion.
"Since this Metal City has appeared before us, it seems we can't go around it; we can only go in and see what's inside. I hope it won't be too difficult to handle," Rek replied.
Then Rek took the lead, bringing Alice and the Victorious Monkey into the Metal City.
As they stepped inside the Metal City, they each found a Metal Ring on their arms, with data displayed on the circular bands.
Rek displayed 45:00:00, Victorious Monkey showed 30440:00:00, and Alice showed 3021:00:00.
There were decimal points following these numbers.
Moreover, the numbers were continuously decreasing. Rek looked at the Metal Ring in his hand; his number was the smallest. The decreasing time for all three was the same. Rek realized that it was based on a 24 and 60 system, similar to how dates and times are calculated.
"What do these extra metal rings and numbers mean?" Alice exclaimed as she looked at her Metal Ring.
Rek remained silent and quickened his pace alongside Alice toward the center of this Metal City. Inside Metal City, many creatures suddenly appeared, a variety of beings, each holding a Metal Ring with their own values.
This Metal City seemed alive.
However, these different races did not engage in combat; instead, they lived like citizens within this Metal City.
Rek also noticed several stalls selling goods.
He approached a stall that appeared to be run by humans.
The stall was selling some Energy Stones, all labeled with tags indicating three days, one day, ten days, one hour, and so on.
"How do you trade these Energy Stones? What does the data on the Metal Ring represent?" Rek asked a teenage boy wearing a straw hat at the stall.
"You must be new to Metal City! Let me check your remaining lifespan. You have over forty-four years left, not bad. That little girl has over three thousand years—wow, three thousand years is enough for you to live quite comfortably in this Metal City.
Wow, this monkey—if I may ask—has a lifespan of thirty thousand years! How is that possible? He must be incredibly wealthy," the young stall owner exclaimed to Rek and the others.
"That's right, we just arrived in Metal City. You said that the Metal Ring in our hands shows our lifespan. Can you explain that in detail?" Alice asked.
The little boy looked at Alice and revealed the Metal Ring on his own arm, which displayed the time as 15:00:00. "I have fifteen years left to live. This Metal Ring shows your remaining lifespan. In this Metal City, people live backwards, or rather, they grow younger as time passes. When your lifespan reaches 00:00:00, you will transform from a baby into an embryo and then disappear," the Shopkeeper explained to Alice.
"Time flows backward, so we become younger?" Alice marveled.
"Exactly. When you enter this city, the time displayed on your Metal Rings reflects the time you experienced in your previous world, but here in Metal City, life is counted in reverse. All life becomes younger over time.
In this Metal City, there are newborns as well, but those who are just born are actually old people. They only become babies when they die and then disappear. Congratulations, little girl, you have thousands of years of life points, which will allow you to live well in this Metal City.
This Mr. Monkey beside you is even more remarkable; he has over thirty thousand years of life points, enough for him to enjoy a carefree life in this metallic world. Would you like to buy some energy crystals? I sell them very cheaply; with just a few days or hours of life points, you can purchase many useful energy crystals," the Shopkeeper said to Alice and Victorious Monkey, completely ignoring Rek, the poor one.
"Buy some! Get a few of the highest energy crystals," Victorious Monkey said as he pointed to several crystals worth ten years of life points each.
"Great! Truly a wealthy person," the Shopkeeper exclaimed happily as he connected his Metal Ring with Victorious Monkey's ring and took away one hundred twenty years of life points from him.
Then the Shopkeeper transformed into an old man, his appearance changing rapidly. The aged shopkeeper excitedly packaged twelve Supreme Energy Crystals for Victorious Monkey.
Losing one hundred twenty years of life points was nothing for Victorious Monkey, who had over thirty thousand years; he showed no visible change.
Victorious Monkey quickly absorbed all twelve energy crystals.
He looked at the now elderly shopkeeper with satisfaction.
Rek and Alice watched this transaction and the shopkeeper aging instantly, realizing that what he said was indeed true.
Alice, Victorious Monkey, and Rek left the small shop. The three of them stopped at a corner of the street.
"Have you ever experienced a space like this? Do you know how to get out?" Rek asked Victorious Monkey and Alice.
Alice shook her head. She had never heard of such a bizarre space where life could reverse and transactions could occur, let alone know how to escape.
Standing nearby, Victorious Monkey touched his Monkey Hair and spoke up, "I may not know what powers this space operates on, but it is somewhat similar to the array spaces from my previous world.
Such spaces have rules that exist; once established, these rules support the operation of the space, and even the creator cannot change them.
The space we are in should be using the lives that have already passed to convert into survival points for transactions. Even if these survival points are not traded, they will gradually decrease over time until they reach zero, at which point one will die. As for how to get out, I estimate that when this space was created, a similar array must have been set up to allow entry and exit for energy balance. Since we managed to enter, after meeting certain conditions, we should be able to leave." Victorious Monkey explained.
Rek nodded as he listened to the monkey speak; it was rare for him to talk so much and actually provide an explanation for this metallic space.
Looking at the points in his hand, Rek saw he still had over forty-four years left. This must mean that the space had converted his previous life into points as well.
As for Alice's three thousand plus life points, it was likely due to her having reincarnated multiple times, accumulating them over time.
"It seems we need to find a way out quickly; otherwise, I'll be the first to die," Rek said with a dry laugh as he looked at his dwindling life points.
"Don't worry. When you were a child, I can lend you some life points to keep you alive. If that doesn't work, there's always Victorious Monkey; with over thirty thousand life points, he should be able to help us survive and leave," Alice said nonchalantly.
"Of course you feel fine; you have over three thousand and he has over thirty thousand life points," Rek thought to himself. However, he didn't want to trade with Alice or Victorious Monkey. It would be best if they could leave normally; who knew if trading life points with them would lead to any adverse effects once they exited this Metal City? He didn't want to end up half-monkey or half-girl after leaving.
Rek, Alice, and Victorious Monkey moved quickly through Metal City. From the outside, it didn't look large, but inside it felt immense. Rek sensed that there must be some spatial technology at play here that expanded the existing area.
Victorious Monkey and Alice bought some useful items at first during their journey, but later lost interest in shopping. Only when they encountered something particularly unique and useful would Victorious Monkey purchase it.
The wealthy Victorious Monkey and Alice stored their purchases in their respective spaces, while Rek watched enviously. Unfortunately, he had too few life points to afford anything and wasn't sure how long it would take to exit this metallic space city.
After walking for several hours, the three stopped in front of a restaurant.
"Let's grab something to eat, Victorious Monkey. You should treat us since you have the most points. Remember, Rek and I were adventuring in the last space to save you," Alice said with a smile.
"Sure thing," Victorious Monkey nodded and generously led Rek and Alice to a table in the restaurant.
"What would you like to eat? Here are our series of dishes. We offer food from several races and can also prepare custom meals," a Waitress approached with several menus and handed them to Victorious Monkey, Alice, and Rek.
"I'll have a fruit platter; you guys can order whatever you want," Victorious Monkey said after glancing at the menu.
"I'll have a steak and juice, plus some salad," Alice ordered.
"I'll take this one, this one, and this one!" Rek also ordered several dishes that looked appealing without hesitation.
In just over ten minutes, the dishes began to arrive. Rek, Alice, and Victorious Monkey all enjoyed their meals, finding the flavors exceptionally delicious.
After finishing, Victorious Monkey paid the bill without hesitation. The waiter, seeing that Victorious Monkey had over thirty thousand life points, respectfully offered a ten percent discount and encouraged Rek and the others to come back often.
