"You, you, you!!!" Fengyin exclaimed, still unable to articulate her feelings after all this time. What bothered her was what happened last night.
"What do you think of me? Don't you know?" Hibiscus leaned down to meet her gaze.
"I... You should go away. I don't want to talk to you." She intended to avoid the conversation; after all, now that Seven Nights was better, she had no leverage over him.
"Do you remember Jinse?" Hibiscus lay beside Fengyin, fully clothed.
"Jinse?" Fengyin blinked, looking at Hibiscus's reminiscing eyes.
"I still remember."
"Do you remember Fengyin?"
"How could I forget?"
Hibiscus narrowed her starry eyes and pressed down on Fengyin's back with her hand.
"You've changed." Fengyin's eyes brimmed with tears, feeling very wronged. She was the patient; right now, she needed to be treated with extra gentleness.
"It seems you still remember," Hibiscus mocked.
"I... I want to sleep."
"No."
"I'm tired; I can't keep my eyes open."
"No."
"You used to be very gentle!" Fengyin complained.
"That was in the past." Hibiscus revealed a pink pill in her palm again. "Now take this."
Surprisingly, she is now afraid of seeing this color of pill. She closes her mouth and pretends to be asleep, refusing to eat it no matter what, not even looking at it!
Fengyin turns her head away, ignoring Hibiscus beside her, clenching her jaw tightly! She will never eat it again, no matter what!
Clearly, she has forgotten that she is a doctor and that the Peach-Colored Pill is just an ordinary anti-inflammatory pill. Hibiscus presses his large hand on her delicate back again, and she refuses to eat it even if it kills her!
"Come on, take it." He tries to persuade her after being firm doesn't work.
She is already asleep, and she won't wake up tonight!
Hibiscus helplessly puts the pill in his own mouth, chews it a bit, finding it slightly bitter. He covers both of them with a blanket and adjusts the pretending-to-sleep Fengyin into a more comfortable position before closing his eyes.
In the darkness, a pair of bright eyes roll around. Has he stopped tormenting her? Is he a masochist?
Sure enough, she suddenly finds herself unable to move as a Peach-Colored Pill is stuffed into her mouth. It melts instantly; she has been tricked!
Fengyin resigns herself and closes her eyes, wondering if she should struggle against fate, but she has grown accustomed to yielding. Indeed, that Peach-Colored Pill is not something good.
"Hmph, the one I wanted you to take earlier was just an Anti-Inflammatory Pill. Since you don't recognize my good intentions, then suffer on your own," Hibiscus scoffs. He reaches under Fengyin's armpit to feel her warm skin, smooth as cream, gradually heating up. Satisfied, he closes his eyes and falls asleep.
This time Hibiscus does not give Fengyin the antidote nor opens his eyes again; he has already sealed her acupoints. He only makes her feel worse than death for one night without causing any other harm. As he had already infused his true energy into her earlier, he sleeps soundly; that little bit of heat means nothing to his icy true energy.
As dawn approaches and the effects of the medicine wear off, Fengyin's body temperature slowly decreases. Her acupoints release themselves, leaving her weakly slumped on the bed like a dead fish.
No one can understand how she endured that night; she couldn't move or make a sound. She quietly endured it all day without speaking again. A silent protest!
Hibiscus is not angry; he continues practicing and eating as usual.
"Jin'er, let me take a look." Ji Yuyan hurriedly runs to the West Garden after hearing that Fengyin has arrived at Mu Family Villa.
"Mother, what’s there to see?"
"You little brat! One day I will beat you!" Ji Yuyan walks into the room and sees Fengyin lying on the soft couch.
She was lying with her eyes closed, breathing gently, and sleeping peacefully.
Hibiscus was about to wake her up.
"You child, when did you become so abrupt?" Ji Yuyan quickly grabbed her son. Oh my, where had her previously gentle and polite son gone?
"I—"
"Jin'er, Yin'er is also a young lady; how can you act like this?" Ji Yuyan glanced at the clothes Hibiscus was wearing, which were quite inappropriate. She could only express it that way. "Have you done something to that girl?"
Hibiscus pouted, "Mother, where are you thinking?"
Oh dear, in this situation, what else could she think of? Of course it was that!
"In the past few days, Mother Stone has been crying constantly. I need to prepare and go pay my respects; even the deity is sad. When she's sad, if you treat her well, she will surely repay you. That's why I need to go," Ji Yuyan sighed as she looked at Hibiscus, who seemed indifferent. Who was she trying to fool?
"Young Master, the master sent me to tell you that Princess Lingxiang, Young Master Mei, and Jinse Girl have arrived and are chatting with the master in the living room. The master wants you to prepare a guest room in the West Garden."
"Okay, ask Lin Ke to prepare it."
"Yes, Young Master."
Hibiscus sat on the soft couch, gazing at the sleeping face in a daze. Perhaps she hadn't slept all night.
What had she once liked about her? Forgotten; what had her smile looked like back then? Forgotten; what had he said to her? Why did she leave? He couldn't remember any of it. Yet why couldn't he let go? God knows!
He had forgotten how gentle she was when frowning, forgotten her hesitant expressions, forgotten the nights under the moonlight, forgotten standing on the edge of a cliff where they almost pledged their lives to each other, forgotten the fragrance of her lips and her unfathomable heart. Had he really forgotten? Was this love or hate?
A longing for one person and idle worries for two?
But what did all of this mean to her?
If he wasn't mistaken, for three years she had been waiting for another person; she had suffered for him and endured pain even in moments of unconsciousness.
"I really want to strangle you." Hibiscus turned and left.
Fengyin opened her fearful eyes and said, "Why do I feel so stuffy?"
"Jin Zhi, the weather in the capital is hot, so I came to bother you." Mel waved a folding fan and added with a smile, "The princess came along too; you can't blame me, right? I just couldn't bear to let her stay alone in that place where people get eaten."
"Brother Mugen," Spiritual Incense called sweetly while twisting her handkerchief.
"Mm," Hibiscus replied lightly.
"Young Master Mu, I didn't want to stay at home, so I came out too."
She didn’t just not want to stay at home; she had escaped. She didn’t want to be in the capital while the emperor was holding the Consort Selection. Her mother wouldn’t allow her to go. If she couldn’t become a consort, then she didn’t want to stand there watching him choose; she would rather run far away and be sad by herself.
Hibiscus nodded and then led them to the West Garden.
"Mei Er, why isn’t Brother Mugen saying anything?"
"Keep your voice down; it's better not to talk. Silence is golden."
"That's true." Spiritual Incense clasped her hands in front of her chest, her eyes only on the figure in white. Mel raised an eyebrow, unconcerned, and followed along with Jinse.
