“Chen Dao?” Xinran, who was lazily staying at home, heard the doorbell and ran to open the door, only to find that it was Chen Jianliang Chen Dao and his assistant standing outside.
“Xinran, am I disturbing you?”
“Not at all! Please come in and have a seat!” Xinran was momentarily stunned. Why would Chen Dao come to her house? Did Jerry not explain clearly that she had resigned from the role? But that couldn't be, as Jerry was always overly serious about his work. So why did Chen Dao suddenly show up today?
“Chen Dao, would you like something to drink? Juice or coffee?”
“Xinran, please don’t trouble yourself. Let’s get down to business first; the other things can wait…” Chen Dao waved his hand. He had come to visit Summer today to discuss matters that were crucial for his future career. If he couldn’t handle this, he would only be left with the option of being fired. “Chen Dao, just say what you need to say directly. If there’s anything troubling you, I can help, so feel free to speak. Actually, I’m very grateful to you for giving me a role when filming the new project began, even though we didn’t get to continue working together.” Xinran said sincerely while sitting across from Chen Dao.
“Xinran, hearing you say that makes it hard for me as a director to speak! The truth is, I came here today hoping to persuade you not to resign from ‘Diamond Absolute Love’. Xinran, I’ve always felt that this role was tailor-made for you. Would you consider it again before making your decision?”
Initially feeling anxious, Xinran now felt relieved. She had been worried that Chen Dao might ask her for something difficult to accept, but it turned out it was about this matter. Just a few days ago, she had jokingly told Jerry that she didn’t believe the project could continue without her. Now, seeing Chen Dao personally coming to plead with her not to resign was indeed puzzling! She wasn’t a big star; how did it come to this?
A thought vaguely surfaced in Xinran’s mind: Could this be another scheme by Dong Shan Zhong?
“Director, I understand that being able to work on your project is a rare opportunity for me, and losing it would be a significant loss. However, I’m really sorry; as you know, after my recent hospital visit and the ensuing rumors, it took a lot of effort just to suppress them. Right now, I genuinely want some quiet time for myself, so I must disappoint you!” Without Jerry shielding her, she had no choice but to find an excuse; no matter what, she was determined to resign from this project.
“Xinran, I’m begging you as the director! Please reconsider! You don’t know how desperate I am! The investors said they would only fund the project if you agreed to return; otherwise, they would withdraw their investment. Without funding, we can’t proceed with filming!” Chen Dao wiped the sweat from his forehead; he truly felt helpless!
The man who suddenly took Xinran away during the audition was actually one of the investors for this film. The company hadn’t informed him about this, and he almost angered the financier! This Summer was truly someone not to be underestimated; not only was she the girlfriend of popular idol star Augus, but she also had such a powerful backer supporting her. Later on, during makeup, he learned that Gujialan had intentionally injured Summer. Hearing this made him break out in a cold sweat; thankfully, the two hadn’t gotten into a fight on set; otherwise, he would have been in a very awkward position!
Later, he received the news that Summer had resigned. Before he could react, someone from above came to say that this play could not be without Summer. If she requested to play the female lead, they would have to let Gujialan go. In short, they had to accommodate Summer's wishes; otherwise, the funding for the play would be halted. At that moment, he was truly in a panic and had no choice but to ask Summer's agent, Fan Jierui, to persuade her again. However, it was still fruitless, so he had to personally visit her to plead.
"So, it's because of me?" Xinran frowned. It turned out that Dong Shan Zhong was behind this; she had really underestimated his capabilities. It seemed he was determined not to let her off easily!
"Xinran, you tell the director that if you want to play the female lead, I will arrange for Gujialan to be replaced, as long as you don't resign. Is that okay?"
Xinran forced a smile; it seemed there was no escaping this. Well, Dong Shan Zhong merely wanted to pressure her into submission this way, so she might as well fulfill his wish!
"Chen Dao, give me a few days to think it over. I promise you I will give you a satisfactory answer in a few days, alright?"
"With your word, I can rest easy. I'll take my leave now and won't disturb you any longer!" Chen Dao finally showed a relieved smile on his face as he stood up and walked out. His assistant nodded slightly at her and followed him toward the door.
"Director, take care." Xinran helplessly walked behind to see them off.
