After eating porridge, Augus, feeling weak, fell back into a deep sleep. Xinran carefully placed an ice pack on his forehead and tucked the blanket around him before leaving the bedroom and heading to the kitchen.
By the end of the night, she was thoroughly exhausted, but feeling relieved that Augus's high fever was finally subsiding. After all, since she had known him, she hadn't been able to do much for him, so taking care of him while he was sick felt like a natural thing to do.
After nearly two hours of busy cooking, she prepared a pot of medicinal soup and tidied up the kitchen. Only then did Xinran sit down on the sofa in the living room to rest. However, thinking about Augus lying in bed made her quickly get up and walk back into the bedroom, deciding to sit by his bedside and watch over him.
As night passed, morning light streamed through the window into the bedroom. Xinran moved her somewhat numb arms and slowly lifted her head. No wonder she felt so tired; she had fallen asleep by Augus's bedside last night.
Leaning over to check on the still-sleeping Augus, she found his pure sleeping face truly beautiful—one part lazy, two parts enchanting, and three parts childlike. If she weren't afraid of waking him, she would really want to touch that perfect face.
It seemed that Augus's fever had mostly gone down; it was time for her to take her leave. After leaving a note by his bedside saying there was hot soup in the kitchen for him to drink, Xinran quietly exited the bedroom. After freshening up in the bathroom, she decided to go home and get some proper rest to regain her strength.
The taxi quickly took her back to her apartment. As soon as she walked in the door, Xinran rushed straight to the bathroom; she desperately needed a bath to wash away her fatigue. As the bubbles enveloped her white body, she slowly closed her eyes and leaned back in the tub to enjoy herself. At that moment, no one should disturb her; otherwise, she would lose her temper.
Half an hour later, Xinran opened her eyes because she thought about Augus, who was still sick at home. What if his fever hadn't gone down? Or what if it returned after she'd left? She felt foolish for just abandoning him and running back. They say if you help someone, you should see it through to the end. Forget it; she'd better take care of Augus completely before going home! With that thought in mind, she quickly jumped out of the bathtub, rinsed off the bubbles, dried herself off, changed into clean clothes, and rushed out the door.
Moments later, she returned to Augus's apartment. After entering the door code and stepping inside quietly, she looked around and noticed nothing had changed. The sick man must still be asleep! However, just as she bent down to change her shoes, she suddenly noticed a pair of expensive-looking men's leather shoes added to the shoe rack at the entrance.
Furrowing her brow, could it be that someone came while she was gone? Confused, she pushed open the door and entered Augus's bedroom. The blankets on the bed were messily thrown aside, but the man who should have been lying there was nowhere to be found. Had he gone upstairs?
Xinran stepped quietly out of the bedroom and made her way up to the second floor for the first time in Augus's apartment. It turned out this was a guest room. This man truly was strange; she'd heard Hiya say that Augus disliked having strangers or not-so-familiar guests over at his home. Yet here he was with an entire floor dedicated to guest rooms—clearly someone who had too much money and nowhere to spend it!
"After more than two months without seeing you, I really missed you, big brother!" A voice that was still somewhat hoarse came from inside a room. Xinran looked at the unlocked door, wanting to go in and interrupt them, letting Augus rest and meeting with him later.
"You know the reason!" The cold yet familiar voice made Xinran's hand, which was reaching out to push the door, freeze in mid-air. This was Dong Shan Zhong's voice; she couldn't be mistaken...
