Leaving Augus's apartment, Xinran walked down the street in a daze. She didn't want to remember what had just happened, but those scenes kept drilling into her mind relentlessly.
Suddenly stopping in her tracks, she crouched down and covered her head with her hands, shaking it vigorously. How wonderful it would be if those cruel truths could be shaken away... She had never been someone who deceived herself, but at this moment, she wished she had never met Dong Shan Zhong, never met Augus. She would rather her career still linger at the Bottom of the Valley; at least her heart wouldn't hurt!
It felt like a long time had passed before she slowly straightened up and continued walking. This place was too close to Augus's apartment; she didn't want to stay here. She needed to get away. Suddenly, a loud screeching sound startled Xinran. She turned her head to see a car speeding toward her, but her feet wouldn't move.
"Miss, are you okay? Is everything alright?" The car door opened, and a man in a dark gray suit walked over quickly, bending slightly to help Xinran, who was kneeling on the ground.
"I'm fine..." With the man's assistance, Xinran stood up, but her legs were trembling uncontrollably, and she quickly knelt back down.
"Is your leg injured? No way, I have to take you to the hospital!" The man frowned and without waiting for a response, he picked Xinran up horizontally and placed her in his car. He then got into the driver's seat and started the engine.
"I told you I'm fine! Stop the car; I want to get out!" Xinran clung to the car door with one hand, trying to open it.
"Are you crazy?" The man pressed the central lock button and pulled over to the side of the road. He reached out and grabbed Xinran's hand that was holding onto the door. In their struggle, he noticed her face hidden beneath disheveled hair; it seemed familiar. After thinking for a moment, a face jumped into his mind. "You're Summer? We've met before; you remember me, right? Qi Shaokai!"
"You've got the wrong person; I'm not!" Xinran replied expressionlessly.
"I trust my memory. Even if we've only met once and exchanged less than five words!" Qi Shaokai smiled gently, warmth shining from his eyes beneath his gold-rimmed glasses.
Hearing Qi Shaokai's words, Xinran snorted coldly and turned her head toward the car window. In her earlier panic, she might not have seen him clearly, but how could she not recognize him now? Xia Wenjing's fiancé—what an unforgettable title! She wasn't forgetful; anyone even slightly connected to the Xia family sisters was someone she didn't want to deal with right now, especially since she wasn't in the mood for it!
"It's fine if you don't want to acknowledge it, but since my car hit you, I should take you to the hospital for a check-up to ease my conscience!" After saying this, Qi Shaokai chuckled lightly and drove off at high speed.
Xinran leaned wearily against the seat, not wanting to say anything. She felt so exhausted and in pain; she didn't know if it was because of her recent fall or the overwhelming shock she had just experienced. At that moment, every bone in her body ached painfully.
"Did something happen to you? You seemed distracted when crossing the street just now. If I hadn't noticed you in time and the traffic on this road wasn't heavy, you wouldn't have been so lucky," Qi Shaokai said while skillfully turning the steering wheel and glancing at Xinran.
Despite hearing Qi Shaokai speak, Xinran remained silent, leaning against the seat without any intention of responding. Even if she needed someone to show concern for her right now, it certainly wouldn't be this man, as he was Xia Wenjing's fiancé, and they were destined to be at odds.
"Actually, I thought you looked familiar the first time I saw you. You're a celebrity, right? Although I don't usually pay attention to these things, I still catch glimpses of you on TV occasionally!"
"I'm sorry, but if you're planning to continue talking, could I request to get out here? Don't worry; even if I end up disabled in the future, I won't hold it against you. Can you just let me go to the hospital by myself?" Xinran suddenly leaned forward, her tone not very friendly.
"Okay, I'll be quiet. I can tell you're not in a good mood!" Qi Shaokai awkwardly touched his nose and stopped talking.
