Taking a glass of Tequila from the serving waiter, Xinran walked slowly towards a seat by the side of the venue, where it was close to the window and the lighting was slightly dim, making it suitable for her to carry out her plan without being too conspicuous.
After taking a light sip of the Tequila, she was immediately hit by the fierce alcohol aroma. Tequila, along with whiskey, brandy, gin, rum, and vodka, is known as a strong spirit and is beloved by men. However, women usually avoid these strong drinks because they cannot handle their intensity. Long Island Iced Tea is a drink favored by women with better tolerance for alcohol. As for Xinran, although she has a decent tolerance, she does not particularly like these so-called strong spirits and would only indulge in Tequila if absolutely necessary. But tonight was an exception; she needed the impact of strong alcohol to bolster her courage.
Leaning quietly against the back of her chair, she drank down the contents of her glass sip by sip. Xinran felt a wave of warmth rising within her, and her face began to flush with heat. However, she was not drunk; she remained clear-headed. Raising her head, she watched Mu Shaosi approach her step by step from afar. Tonight he wore a handmade black suit without a tie, and the two buttons near his neck on his white shirt were undone, accentuating his muscular physique. His long legs were taut in his suit pants as he walked with steady and powerful strides.
Such a god-like man would not go unnoticed by the guests present, even if they did not know his true identity and assumed he was just another guest invited by Qingtian's president. His face and regal demeanor were enough to command attention. One could imagine that if he did not go to great lengths to conceal his identity and often exposed himself to the public eye, he would likely attract more pursuit than celebrities in the entertainment industry.
"You look beautiful tonight!" His deep voice resonated as Mu Shaosi sat across from Xinran, gazing at her. Noticing her empty wine glass and flushed cheeks, he realized she had been drinking—strong liquor at that—because he could almost smell the intensity of the alcohol.
"That line is nothing new; it's not my first time hearing it tonight," Xinran replied vaguely while shaking her head and brushing her forehead with her hand.
"But I seem to be the most qualified to say it," Mu Shaosi leaned back in his chair and frowned slightly. "It looks like you're a bit drunk; you shouldn't be getting drunk at an event like this!"
He stared into her slightly dazed eyes that were looking at him. He thought she had come to tonight's party having weighed the pros and cons and decided to accept his goodwill. However, given the situation, it seemed she chose to get drunk instead—perhaps to avoid being introduced as Qingtian's Contract Artist later on—or maybe she intentionally wanted to escape that moment. Did she not care about this contract that concerned her future? She was a smart woman; he always believed she could think clearly.
"It's fine; what's the big deal?" Xinran smiled lightly and stood up unsteadily, trying to leave but seeming genuinely drunk as her steps were chaotic and unsteady.
"I'll help you upstairs to rest; I'll notify my secretary to push back the signing announcement until last. You need to sober up!" Mu Shaosi suddenly stood up, one hand on Xinran's waist and the other pulling her arm so that her entire body leaned against him.
"Thank... thank you; you're such a good person..." resting her chin on Mu Shaosi's shoulder, Xinran murmured. However, the eyes turned away from him were clear as water, revealing no hint of drunkenness. The corners of her mouth curled slightly upwards into a calculating smile...
