When Xinran and Augus stepped out of the private club, they were immediately stunned by the scene before them. They were blocked by layers of paparazzi, who seemed to swarm like cats sensing blood, almost completely blocking the entrance. The security personnel who rushed over struggled to control the situation.
"Augus, were you and Summer on a date inside just now? After all this time, has your relationship faded? Is it no longer as sweet as it used to be?"
Seeing the microphone thrust in front of him, Augus frowned. He didn't want to respond to the paparazzi's questions and intended to push through them and leave. However, with Xinran beside him, he felt he had to answer coldly to protect her from the paparazzi's harassment. "My relationship with Summer is great. Thank you for your concern."
Xinran turned to look at Augus. She knew he said this to protect her; the current situation was not suitable for revealing that they had already broken up. Although they had never discussed it, they both understood that their relationship could only officially end when Hiya posted about it or when the press conference was held. That way, neither of them would be harmed, and ultimately, it was still about protecting her.
"Augus, is what you said true? Why have we heard rumors that you and Summer not only broke up long ago but that your relationship was just for show and not genuine?"
"Yes, Augus, we've heard this rumor too, and the informant claims this news is absolutely credible. Do you have anything to say?"
Hearing what the paparazzi said next, Xinran's expression changed dramatically. Even their relentless pursuit and harassment couldn't shake her resolve, but these few words nearly shattered her defenses because they revealed a truth she would never want exposed.
Indeed, she had relied on rumors about her relationship with Augus and pretended to be his girlfriend to elevate her status. While she hadn't achieved stardom, she had gradually gained visibility. She could argue that this was a private matter between them since they had a mutual agreement, but she also knew that the paparazzi had caught wind of this information and would pursue it relentlessly. They would spare no effort in contacting anyone related to the matter, even the informant who held insider knowledge. They would dig deep into this story.
Slowly, she would be exposed in public. Even if there were no monetary or romantic transactions between her and Augus, it would still be a scandal, wouldn't it? She didn't know how much damage Augus would ultimately suffer or whether he would be affected; she only knew that she could not escape unscathed!
"I really want to know who gave you this information? Why create something out of nothing and ruin my relationship with Summer?" Augus quietly held Xinran's hand and applied slight pressure to give her strength. He wanted her to know that he wouldn't let her face the storm alone. Until his brother arrived and took action, he would do everything he could to protect her. He didn't care what would happen to him; he just wanted her to be okay!
Because he clearly understood that while this career might not mean much to him, for her, it represented a height in life that was hard to reach. She had worked hard to build it up; if it collapsed in an instant, how much harm would it cause her!
"Augus, does this mean you are denying the information released by the informant? But that person said that fresh scandals about Summer will continue to be exposed, urging all of us to be prepared. Are you denying it to protect Summer, or is it because you are both in the same boat now, and neither of you can afford to be in trouble?"
The aggressive words came one after another, and Xinran felt a chill all over her body. She had been in this cauldron for too long; the tranquility at the Bottom of the Valley almost made her forget the pain of facing the truth, forgetting that what she had done would eventually be discovered. Having shed her defensive wings too early, when the storm hit, she realized that the strong defenses she once thought she had had long since scattered and no longer existed.
From the words of the paparazzi, she read a message: this time, their target was her—just her. The so-called informant was acting with the intent to harm her. Although she lacked defensive capabilities, she could see clearly who was behind it all...
