Xinran slowly opened her eyes, stretching her delicate arms out from under the thin blanket. She looked around, feeling somewhat unfamiliar and uncertain about where she was. Perhaps Mu Shaosi had brought her to a guest room? She wasn't sure if this was still Qingtian Group. Pulling the blanket higher to cover her bare body, she thought about how that damn Mu Shaosi could have at least left her something to wear. She vaguely remembered that her already thin shirt and short skirt had been torn to shreds in the hallway by him.
Wrapping the blanket around herself, Xinran jumped off the large bed and walked over to the nearby sofa where her bag was placed. Opening it, she took out her phone and was shocked to find over thirty missed calls, all from Jerry and Wujie, and even Augus. Furrowing her brows in confusion, she dialed Jerry's number to ask if something had happened.
The call connected, and before Xinran could say anything, she heard Jerry's anxious voice on the other end: “Xinran, where are you right now? No matter where you are, just hide for now and avoid crowded places. If Paparazzi see you, it will be very dangerous! Is Mu Shaosi with you? It’s best if he sends someone to protect you!”
Since Jerry was a witness at her wedding with Mu Shaosi, he knew a lot about him. They were such close friends that there was really nothing she needed to hide from him...
“Jerry, what’s going on?” Xinran felt a sudden chill run down her spine, an ominous feeling surging within her.
“Xinran, the person who has been behind the scenes harming you has exposed your identity as an illegitimate daughter and dragged your mother and Uncle Xia into it as well. That person said they would reveal your scandals every few hours, so now the Paparazzi are divided into several groups searching for you. Our apartment, Wujie's house, even Augus’s apartment have all been surrounded by them…”
Hearing this on the other end of the line, Xinran managed a bitter smile. It seemed they were intent on driving her to despair because they had gained nothing from their actions and had even been expelled from the Xia Family by her father... Was it fair for them to make her pay for their own mistakes?
They hated her; she had always known that. She didn't particularly like them either. As long as they didn’t go too far, she would turn a blind eye since no one liked trouble. But this time, they had nearly handed over all of Xia Sheng’s stocks and forced her father to declare bankruptcy. If it weren't for Mu Shaosi's intervention, the Xia Sheng Group would have already fallen apart. Afterward, when her father was discharged from the hospital and reorganized Xia Sheng, he expelled her aunt and others from the family. None of this was really her concern; moreover, she had lost her marriage because of it. But why did she have to pay such a heavy price? Why drag down her deceased mother and her father who had just recovered?
Xinran tightly wrapped her arms around herself, trying to warm up. She felt so cold and pitiful for encountering such shameless mother and daughter. How could they think they could act so arrogantly? She knew that only someone as cunning as Xia Wenyiyi, who would use such underhanded methods to harm her by manipulating the Paparazzi, could orchestrate this situation. Though Xia Wenjing was despicable, she didn’t possess that level of intelligence.
Was she too kind-hearted? Was that why they bullied her? Had she been too merciful towards them? This would only embolden them further to continue hurting her...
