"You're going to tell me the truth, right?" Xinran asked uncertainly, gazing at Mu Shaosi standing before her.
Mu Shaosi remained silent, raising his hand to gently smooth Xinran's hair, his palm lingering on her cheek as he caressed her.
"If this matter has nothing to do with me, I wouldn't care even if I were kept in the dark; but since it is my concern, I want to know. I don't want to be deceived, okay?" Xinran placed her hand over Mu Shaosi's, and she could almost guess that Xia Wenjing's appearance was somehow related to Mu Shaosi. However, she didn't want to think along those lines. She knew that Xia Wenyiyi and her aunt had indeed been captured by Mu Shaosi, although she was aware he had the capability to do so.
"I never intended to hide anything from you. The woman appeared today because I arranged it. I also anticipated that she would want to harm you, so I had Shaoyang protect you in advance. You must not be harmed in any way!" Mu Shaosi sat down, pulling Xinran close and holding her waist, urging her to sit on his lap.
"So you're saying that Xia Wenyiyi and my aunt are really in your hands? You captured them just so Xia Wenjing would think it was me who did it, to take revenge on me?" Xinran bit her lip and turned her head to look at Mu Shaosi. She had thought of it one way in her mind, but hearing him say it made her feel differently.
"They're not currently in my hands; I only took them for a few hours. My purpose was simply to provoke Xia Wenjing into making a reckless move, which would naturally lead to her being sent to prison. She is someone I need to deal with because I know she once slapped you. A woman who dares to harm my Xinran must pay the price!" Mu Shaosi freed one hand to stroke Xinran's hair, speaking indifferently as if deciding a person's fate was as simple as having a cup of coffee.
Xinran quietly stared at him, feeling somewhat unfamiliar. When Xia Wenjing splashed gasoline on her, she had thought about using legal means against her. Yet this man before her, her husband, had already devised a plan for dealing with the aftermath before the incident even occurred. Wasn't that a bit frightening?
He said that because Xia Wenjing slapped her, she was his first target for resolution. She knew he had seen the imprint of a hand on her face during her father's birthday banquet; nothing could escape his notice. But he didn't know that her aunt had also hit her. She helplessly wondered what would happen if he found out about this. How would he deal with her aunt? Would he silence her directly? Or would he send her aunt to prison in the same manner?
Or perhaps she was overthinking it; what would he do next regarding Xia Wenyiyi and her aunt? He already knew that it was Xia Wenyiyi who spread rumors about her behind the scenes...
"What will you do next about Xia Wenyiyi and my aunt?" Xinran asked hesitantly. She was still too kind-hearted; she could never be as ruthless as Mu Shaosi. Even if she held a knife in her hand right now and stabbed Xia Wenyiyi, it wouldn't be excessive; yet even with the knife in hand, she couldn't bring herself to do it!
"Xinran, you're scared, aren't you?" Mu Shaosi discerned from her silence. He didn't consider his methods cruel because compared to what he had done in the past, this truly wasn't much. He just didn't want Xinran to fear him; that's why he showed restraint. Could she still not accept it?
"No, I just..."
"I know your kindness, and you still worry about them, even if they treat you that way. Don't worry, I won't be too ruthless in hurting them; I'll leave some leeway. As for Xia Wenjing, I'll inform Agent Lawyer so that we don't have to go too hard on her!" Mu Shaosi pressed Xinran's head down a bit and kissed her slightly cold lips. Then he said, "Wife, I'm doing all this just to make you a little happier and free from worries. But if my methods go too far, just let me know, okay?"
"Si, I know you're doing this for me. I really do, thank you!" Xinran smiled and replied. Shouldn't she be content that he would say this to her?
"I love hearing you call me Si, but it would be even better if you did it in bed!" With that, Mu Shaosi stood up and carried Xinran in his arms. "Let's go home!"
