Many years ago, during her school days, Xinran was accustomed to being silent and indifferent, not because it was her nature, but because she did not want to be the center of attention. Sadly, she had to attend the same school as Xia Wenyiyi and Xia Wenjing, the two sisters from the Xia Family, who were praised as the school beauties at such a young age. They were like precious peacocks, constantly posing to attract the attention of the boys who flocked around them, while also finding time to make her life difficult.
At first, she lacked the will to fight back; her lunch was often tampered with, and her notebooks were frequently defaced or torn. However, she did not want to pay attention to it because she remembered her mother's advice before leaving: to live happily and not sweat the small stuff. But when things escalated beyond tolerance, it was no longer in Summer's character to endure.
She continued to remain silent but began to retaliate against the bullying bit by bit, ensuring that the two peacocks did not get away unscathed. She remembered one time when she added black dye, which she had stolen from home, into Xia Wenyiyi's lunch and was caught in the act by him—Zhan Rilang.
Xinran's cold demeanor was not an act; she rarely showed interest in those boys. At that age, what did she know about admiration or love? At least Xinran did not understand it, so she was unfamiliar with this classmate. When caught in that moment, all she thought was that if she got scolded, so be it.
But what did Zhan Rilang do? It was something no one could have guessed; he simply smiled warmly and walked away. Xinran even thought he might go tell the teacher on her. However, after a few days passed without any repercussions, Xinran realized that he was just someone who wouldn’t meddle in others' affairs. She felt a slight fondness for him but hadn’t truly seen what he looked like.
Two weeks later, on her way home from school, Xinran was stopped by someone who said he had fallen for her at first sight—specifically at the moment she was causing trouble. Her smile had attracted him. He hadn’t thought much of it afterward but found himself unable to stop thinking about her every night. Eventually, unable to bear the days without her, he appeared wanting to get to know her and pursue her; this person was naturally Zhan Rilang.
Xinran thought it was a joke. After hearing his confession, she lightly smiled and walked away. However, what she didn’t expect was how persistent Zhan Rilang would be; he doggedly pursued her for several years until graduation. She learned what love meant and what romance entailed but still did not agree to his pursuit. Perhaps she had been touched by his determination, but as they both matured from immaturity into adulthood and still felt nothing for each other, it seemed they were truly fated to part ways.
Before they went their separate ways, Xinran sincerely thanked him because through his pursuit, she received much care and affection from him. Even if she didn’t reciprocate his feelings, it was hard not to appreciate it. But after saying thank you, they still had to part ways; yet Zhan Rilang left her with one last remark: "Xinran, even if we must part today, I will definitely step into your world someday. You will never be able to escape my presence in this lifetime. I am someone who won’t change once I’ve made up my mind. So wait for me; it won’t be too late—I will come back for you!"
Snapping back from her memories, Xinran smiled quietly. The words she had always considered a joke—was Zhan Rilang really going to fulfill them today? Perhaps at one point she imagined he would return and enter her life again. But how would he do that? Many years later today, she realized that he chose to walk the same path as her...
What kind of man has this adorable boy become now? The youthful Zhan Rilang was just a handsome young man whom Xinran couldn’t appreciate at the time; however, in this moment, Xinran found herself reminiscing about him with anticipation for their reunion and even looked forward to working together on a film!
