The article titled ‘Last-Minute Cast Change in the Drama, New Flame Replaces Old Love’ occupied a large portion of the magazine. The content explained that Director Xu's New Drama had originally chosen Summer as the female lead, but Sky Media unilaterally announced a cast change, with the newly popular actress Ning Xiner taking over. Summer, who had signed with Sky Media with much fanfare, was now seemingly shelved after only filming one project, which was directed by a renowned director. However, she was pulled from that midway and now found herself without any roles or even appearances lined up, leaving her future in the entertainment industry in jeopardy.
Xinran took the magazine from Jerry and glanced at Ning Xiner's huge photo alongside her own small image. She couldn't help but smile. What did Mu Shaosi think this was? Did he plan to blacklist her? Trying to take away her means of making a living to force her back? Or was it really as Jerry said, that her act of running away angered him and he was retaliating against her?
“You can still laugh? What are we going to do now? Losing Director Xu's project is one thing, but Sky Media's statement is a serious matter. Their vague wording has everyone speculating that you’ve been shelved. You know what position Sky Media holds in this industry; once they speak up, who would dare to cast you? In my opinion, you might as well continue your vacation!” Jerry crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, glaring at Xinran, who still seemed in good spirits on the sofa.
“Let it be a vacation then; I haven’t slept enough anyway!” Xinran replied coolly. But seeing Jerry’s murderous glare made her soften her tone. “What do you want me to do?”
“Go find Mu Shaosi or at least contact him and ask him how he would let you off the hook.”
“No way!” Xinran firmly rejected. She didn’t even know what she wanted right now. If she went to find him, wouldn’t that mean admitting defeat? Wouldn’t it mean telling him she regretted all the effort she put into escaping and regretted leaving him?
Whether he intended to retaliate or force her back, she had to resist. This wasn’t about competing with him; she just wanted a peaceful environment without pressure, without domineering behavior or machismo. She had already lost herself; all she could hold onto now was her dignity!
“So what are you going to do? Wait for his next move and see what else he can do to you?”
“Jerry, I actually think Mu Shaosi isn’t as you say. Although I don’t know what he’s thinking right now, I subjectively don’t want to see him as that kind of man. Besides, he wouldn’t go to such lengths for someone like me; so please give me some time to figure out what I really want before I go find him…” Xinran gently stood up. “After leaving Japan, I thought about it. Handling my relationship with him this way was indeed very irrational. But at that time, I really had no choice but to resort to such measures because I couldn’t reason with him. So if there’s another chance, I won’t do this again. Even if we can’t be together in the future, we will resolve this matter calmly.”
