When Jerry walked into Xinran's apartment, he saw her struggling to pack her luggage. There were many clothes, as if she intended to leave for good. He understood and walked over to sit across from her.
"Have you thought it through?"
"What difference does it make if I haven't? Dad even called to check on me. Mu Shaosi's scheme has succeeded; I have to go talk some sense into him, otherwise, won't I be completely wronged?"
"Honestly, I think it would be better if the two of you laid everything out in the open. We've known each other for so many years, and I know how insecure you are when it comes to love. You've always been afraid to love, and that has something to do with what happened with your parents. So promise me, Xinran, this time you'll be brave enough to love wholeheartedly. Don't run away at the first sign of trouble, okay?"
"Everyone wants me to promise them something; the pressure is overwhelming!" Xinran forced a helpless smile. Love had never been within her control, although she knew that both her dad and Jerry just wanted her to be happy.
Jerry was right; since she couldn't control when love would come or go, she should really try her best to fight for it while it was still there. In life, her mother had ended up bitter because she couldn't find happiness in love. Did she want to end up like her mother?
"It looks like you're planning to stay there for a while," Jerry said as he stood up to help Xinran pack the neatly folded clothes into her suitcase.
"I don't know if I can truly become his wife wholeheartedly as he wishes. I still want to pursue my own goals; I hope he won't just dismiss that outright!" Xinran shook her head and sighed lightly.
"So, you're giving up on your career?"
"What career do I even have? I'm actually angry that he gave the role to Ning Xiner. When I think about it, I realize I have no standing in this situation. Back when Xia Wenyiyi's scandal hurt me, if it weren't for his help in getting me into Sky Media, how could I have continued in the entertainment industry? I always focus on how he deceived me before and forget about all the things he's done for me since then. Maybe I'm not being fair to him!"
"If you can think this way, Mu Shaosi should consider himself lucky!" Jerry patted Xinran's shoulder. "Come on, I'll take you to the airport. There are a lot of paparazzi downstairs; it might be difficult for you to break through alone."
After nearly half an hour, Xinran finally left the front of the apartment building and got into the car. Jerry let out a long sigh of relief, started the engine, and drove towards the airport. The power of the paparazzi should never be underestimated!
Upon arriving at the airport, Jerry dragged the suitcase alongside Xinran as they went to buy tickets. Sunlight streamed through the large transparent glass, illuminating every corner of the waiting area. On the tarmac, planes were taking off, creating a captivating scene.
Suddenly, Xinran seemed to spot acquaintances—not just one, but three. She walked over, and the person sitting in the waiting chairs was unmistakably Duan Ruyin, accompanied by Mukai Hisashi and Shirakawa Fuji.
At that moment, encountering all three of them at the airport gave Xinran an ominous feeling. They had clearly stated before that she could either go back by herself or they would take her back. Yet here they were, returning to Japan ahead of her…
"Duan Ruyin, why are you all here?" Xinran couldn't contain her emotions and approached them.
"Future Lady, you?" Upon seeing Xinran, Duan Ruyin looked visibly surprised. Then he noticed Jerry dragging the suitcase and appeared even more incredulous.
"Future Lady, we received news that Old Master had a health crisis. Young Master Si was anxious to visit him at the hospital but got into a car accident on the way. We still don't know how serious his injuries are," Mukai Hisashi's calm voice answered Xinran's confusion at just the right moment.
"A car accident?" Xinran's heart sank. "So you’re going back to see him, but why didn’t anyone notify me?"
"We thought you were still angry with Young Master Si, so…" Duan Ruyin said cautiously. It was obvious from Xinran's face that she was filled with anger and worry; who wouldn’t notice?
"Am I supposed to be the last one to know if something happens to him? You’re all despicable!" Xinran spat out angrily before turning around to head for boarding.
The three left behind exchanged glances in silence.
