In the yard of Old Madam, which should have been dimly lit by now, the lights were still dazzlingly bright. Jiang Yu sat in the room, seemingly waiting for someone. 0

Sure enough, about a quarter of an hour later, a black figure agilely leaped through the window and landed lightly inside the room without making a sound, appearing like a ghost and sending a chill down one's spine. 0

However, Jiang Yu seemed accustomed to this, not even opening her eyes as she continued to turn the prayer beads in her hand. 0

The black figure respectfully knelt on the ground, coldness evident in his eyes; this was a unique expression belonging to a professional assassin. 0

"They will be leaving the General's residence tomorrow. Find an opportunity to strike on the road; we must not fail!" Jiang Yu said in a deep voice. 0

"But what about the Prime Minister..." The assassin hesitated noticeably. Although he had always been secretly protecting Jiang Yu, he was trained by the Prime Minister and sometimes had to obey Jiang Huai. 0

Putting down the prayer beads in her hand, a hint of murderous intent that contradicted her daily chanting of Buddha's name clearly emerged from Jiang Yu. "What? Do I need my brother's approval to have you do your job?" 0

"Of course not. It's just that this matter is of great importance. Wouldn't it be better for Old Madam to discuss it with the Prime Minister before making a decision?" He subtly tried to refuse, but it immediately darkened Jiang Yu's expression. 0

With a cold snort, her tone was filled with threat. "If you are willing to do it, then you can continue staying in the General's residence. If not, there are plenty of assassins in this world; why should I force you?" 0

Raising her hand to stroke the prayer beads, her words seemed unusually casual. "But if someone is useless, what do you think is the point of keeping them by my side? It would be better for them to disappear." 0

The person kneeling on the ground trembled slightly, pondering for a moment before finally replying, "Whatever Old Madam says, I will do my utmost to accomplish." 0

A gentle smile slowly blossomed at the corners of her mouth, as if she was very satisfied with his answer. "Very well. Within three days, I hope to hear good news from you." 0

A gust of wind blew through, and there were no longer any other people in the room; only Jiang Yu remained alone at the table, accompanied only by the gently swaying candlelight. 0

The next morning, as the sun had just risen, the General's residence was unusually lively. Two teams of horse-drawn carriages were already waiting outside the residence; as soon as Night Star came out, they could set off. 0

Mo Xier had been so excited that she couldn't sleep well all night. Having been in this ghostly place for so long, she had only left the General's residence once and there were still so many things she hadn't experienced. This opportunity was perfect for her to enjoy herself! 0

At the entrance of the General's residence, there were no send-off guests in sight; it was as if they were not going to Gaochang but merely going out for a stroll. 0

Night Star seemed to have long been accustomed to the desolate scene. After seeing her come out, he directly led her to a carriage in front. 0

Following behind her, Ru Er reduced the numerous bundles they had into just two at her strong insistence, taking only some essential items. 0

Lifting the curtain of the carriage, the words "General's Mansion" gradually faded from her sight until they disappeared completely. 0

Mo Xier suddenly felt a sense of relief in her heart. She could finally leave that place with justification and no longer endure the temper of that menopausal woman! Now, she was so happy that she just wanted to stand up and cheer! 0

Night Star sat in the same carriage with her, while Ru Er took a seat in another one behind them. From the moment they got on the carriage, he had been observing the woman's expression. When he saw her unable to suppress her smile any longer, the indifference on his face began to melt away. "Are you very happy?" 0

"Yes! Super happy! Finally leaving that cursed place! I wish I could never come back!" she replied decisively, without a hint of hesitation. 0

With a light laugh, Night Star immediately poured cold water on her enthusiasm. "You know we can't stay away from Gaochang forever. If the Plague is cured, we will still return here." 0

Her mood soured at his words; they hadn't even left for long, and this blockhead was already thinking about coming back! Making a face at him, Mo Xier tilted her head and let her watery eyes wander around, suddenly having an idea. 0

Leaning closer to him in a spoiled manner, she softly said, "As long as I say I contracted Plague in Gaochang and died! Then I can never come back!" 0

The more she spoke, the more she felt her idea was quite feasible. Her triumphant expression made her eyebrows almost fly up. 0

"Don't say such things," Night Star replied seriously. "I will absolutely not allow that to happen to you." 0

Seeing his serious demeanor made Mo Xier frown slightly and nod. This man's seriousness was really annoying. 0

Turning to look out at the scenery, after several hours of travel, the outside view began to grow increasingly desolate. As time passed, she lost interest. 0

Suddenly, she caught a whiff of a delicious aroma. Following the scent, she turned her head and saw snacks that had suddenly appeared on the table—extremely tempting. 0

"Why are these here all of a sudden?" After taking a light sniff, her attention was instantly diverted. She leaned over the table as if about to wag her tail. "Are these for me?" 0

Before he could answer, she reached out and grabbed one, swallowing it whole without even tasting it. "So delicious!" she exclaimed involuntarily as she reached for another one. 0

She slapped her hand lightly, causing her to instantly retract it in pain, her eyes filled with grievance as she stared at him, resembling a pitiful little puppy. 0

"How do you know it's delicious if you haven't even tasted it properly?" 0

"It looks really good!" she replied weakly, quietly reaching out again to grab another piece, her actions resembling those of a thief, which couldn't help but make Night Star chuckle. 0

He pushed the plate on the table towards her, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness. "Don't worry about me stealing your food; this was all prepared for you. Take your time, no need to rush." 0

Mo Xier's eyes instantly lit up, as if a light had been turned on in the darkness. She was such an easily satisfied person; even just delicious food in front of her could make her happy for quite a while. 0

Once she was sure that the man wouldn't compete with her for food, she confidently took a piece and began to savor it carefully, taking small bites. 0

Meanwhile, Night Star held a book in his hands, seemingly engrossed in something. Occasionally, he would glance up at her and sip his tea, making the time pass quickly during their journey. 0

With her mouth full, she looked up to see him still focused on his book and couldn't help but ask, "Are you really not going to eat anything? It would be such a shame not to taste it." 0

His deep-set eyes fixed on her as he suddenly reached out. Mo Xier was taken aback and instinctively shrank back a bit. 0

His hand paused for a moment before continuing forward, gently wiping away the crumbs at the corner of her mouth. 0

Her eyes widened suddenly; at that moment, she could hear her own heartbeat so loudly it felt like thunder. Thump… thump… Her heart raced uncontrollably. 0

Suddenly, the carriage jolted. The food in her mouth hadn't been fully swallowed and got stuck in her throat, making it impossible to go down or come back up. She couldn't help but cough several times. 0

Seeing this, Night Star immediately moved closer. Though he said nothing, his broad palm gently stroked down her back repeatedly. 0

The early spring weather had begun to warm up slowly. Mo Xier wore a thin shirt and could clearly feel the warmth of his hand through the fabric, carrying the unique strength of a man. 0

After finally swallowing the food that had lodged in her throat—using nearly all her strength—she sighed in relief. 0

"Eat slowly; no one will steal from you. If you choke again next time and I'm not around, let's see how you'll manage." His seemingly reproachful words were laced with undeniable intimacy. 0

Mo Xier's fair cheeks instantly flushed red, even her ears turned bright. This was the first time she felt emotions that were so uncontrollable. 0

Feeling a bit awkward, she shifted her body away, still unaccustomed to such intimate contact. Night Star sensed the stiffness in his subordinate, expressionless as he withdrew his hand and continued to read, as if nothing had happened. 0

For a moment, the atmosphere in the carriage became awkward. Both of them tried to act as if nothing had occurred, but the tension reached its peak. 0

Just when Mo Xier could no longer bear the atmosphere and wanted to speak, the driver suddenly lifted the curtain and softly said, "Young Master, we still have a ways to go to the Post Station. Should we take a break first and then travel at full speed this afternoon to reach the Post Station before dark? That way we will have a place to stay for the night." 0

Night Star agreed to the driver's suggestion without hesitation. With a sigh, she had no choice but to follow the man out of the carriage. She could guarantee that this was definitely the most awkward day they had spent together in all these days! 0

After a morning of travel, they had long distanced themselves from the hustle and bustle of the capital. Stepping out of the carriage, they were greeted by lush greenery. Taking a deep breath, the fresh air made her feel exceptionally joyful. 0

Happily glancing back, her eyes sparkled with satisfaction. "I haven't seen so many trees in a long time." She joyfully spun around a few times, her long skirt following the wind like a butterfly, attracting everyone's attention. 0

Suddenly, she stopped, curiosity shining in her eyes. "Now that we're here, can we go hunting? Like for wild rabbits or pigeons?" 0

Night Star was at a loss for words; he couldn't understand what this woman was thinking. 0

Not receiving an answer made her retreat slightly as she asked again, "Is that not possible?" 0

The look of disappointment on her face made those who saw it feel an involuntary pang of sympathy. Night Star lowered his own standards once more and instructed those behind him, "Go prepare for it." 0

The subordinate who received the order was momentarily flustered. They clearly had enough food packed; why should they struggle in the wild? 0
