Tears flowed continuously, like pearls that had broken free from their string. In her panic, Mo Xier forcefully tore off a piece of her skirt to make a simple bandage, her hands trembling so much that she could barely support his body. 0

Night Star's expression remained as indifferent as before, as if he were not the one injured. He grabbed her hand, his palm slightly cool, and his cold voice almost made her lose focus. "I'm fine." 0

These three simple words felt like both an explanation and a comfort, meant solely for her reassurance. 0

Nodding quickly, she tightly embraced the man in her arms, unable to speak from the pain in her heart, expressing her feelings only through her actions. 0

Suddenly remembering Ru Er, who was still at the original spot, she settled the man in her arms and swiftly turned back. 0

But apart from the scattered belongings and the broken carriage, there was no sign of anyone else, as if they had vanished into the endless forest. 0

After scanning the area and finding no one, she understood the need to make a choice. She knew that lingering here would only invite another wave of attacks at an unknown time, so she decided not to stay any longer. 0

She sifted through the remaining items for anything useful and returned to Night Star's side. 0

Taking out the medicine she had retrieved, she applied it to his wound, and the bleeding finally slowed down a bit. Using all her strength, she helped him up. "We need to find a place to hide." 0

At this point, Night Star had no strength left for unnecessary words; he simply nodded slowly and struggled to keep his weight from entirely resting on her. 0

After walking just over ten meters, they spotted a cave. In that instant, she had already made up her mind. 0

Struggling to lead him toward that direction, she was stopped by the man. "Too close." 0

With those concise three words, Mo Xier understood exactly what he meant. At that moment, their tacit understanding seemed to have suddenly increased; their connection felt so natural that they didn't feel any discomfort but rather sensed that they were meant to be this way. 0

As they continued forward, Night Star began to show signs of exhaustion. Gripping his arm tightly, Mo Xier's voice trembled with a hint of tears. "Don't leave me; you promised!" 0

He let out a rare light laugh, nodding slightly to indicate that she need not worry too much. After all, he was a seasoned general, and his endurance was far better than that of an ordinary person. 0

A thousand meters away from the assassination attempt, they finally found another cave, which was surprisingly clean, as if someone had tidied it up. 0

Fortunately, deep inside the cave, they discovered some clean clothes and bedding, and even some old bowls and pots. These items would be enough for them to get through this difficult night. 0

Supporting him, she slowly helped him lie down. Her tense heart finally felt a moment of calm as she held his hand tightly. Mo Xier was still trembling. 0

"Rest here for a while. I'll go find some herbs for you." Although she had found some medicine among the remnants in the carriage, it was nowhere near sufficient for his injuries. 0

At this rate, they would probably need much more. 0

With her modern knowledge, she could at least help improve his condition, but now she was only worried about whether she could find what she needed outside. 0

His grip on her hand showed no sign of loosening; Night Star was most unwilling to let go at this moment. No one knew what would happen in the next second or when their assailants would appear again. 0

Sensing his concern, a smile blossomed on her stunning face, radiating a bit of sunshine. "Don't worry; I know how to take care of myself. You just stay here and wait for me to come back." 0

After saying this, she gave him a reassuring look and turned to leave the cave. 0

She was not familiar with the area at all; she simply followed the small stream downstream, picking anything useful that she came across. 0

In less than half an hour, her hands were full of items, nearly too much to carry. 0

Winding back to the cave, she excitedly raised her hands filled with herbs and looked at him with pride. "Look what I brought back for you!" 0

Among the various herbs were many inconspicuous mushrooms. "Don't judge them by their appearance; they make a delicious soup!" 0

In the vast cave, echoes reverberated, but no one answered. Panic-stricken, she dropped what she was holding, and a terrifying thought arose in her mind. 0

Sure enough! The man on the haystack had nearly fallen into an unconscious state due to excessive blood loss, showing no reaction to the outside world. 0

"No! You can't die! You are the general of the Heavenly Universe Kingdom! How can you just die like this!" 0

Muttering incessantly, her hands did not stop moving. She cautiously lifted the cloth covering him, revealing a gruesome sight; the wound had become much worse after their long journey. 0

If she didn't perform some simple suturing, this wound might never heal and could even fester and rot. 0

After rummaging through the cave, she surprisingly found needles, thread, and scissors. She started a fire, boiled some water, and prepared her tools before getting to work. 0

She had never experienced such a situation before. Gritting her teeth and steeling herself, she struggled to suppress her trembling hands and took several deep breaths to steady herself. 0

She pried open the badly damaged wound and cleaned out any remaining medication. 0

Then she immediately brought together the surrounding skin, threading the needle through both sides of the flesh with great difficulty. After going back and forth about a dozen times, she finally finished stitching. 0

Next, she sprinkled the herbs she had just found over the wound and cut strips from her skirt to use as bandages, wrapping it tightly. Worried that her bandaging might not be secure enough, she added a few more layers to prevent any movement that could affect the sutures. 0

After completing all this, Mo Xier was already drenched in sweat, her hands covered in the man's blood, tears welling in her eyes. 0

Throughout these actions, he showed no signs of waking up. At that moment, she felt fortunate; if he weren't unconscious, she wouldn't know where to find anesthetics. 0

With weak steps, she made her way to the streamside. Rubbing her bloodied hands vigorously together, they turned red as soon as they touched the water, stinging her eyes. 0

It was noon outside, with sunlight shining warmly. Yet she felt no warmth at all; it seemed as if such warmth had long since left her. 0

Taking a deep breath and thinking about the man who was still unconscious, she sighed lightly. Now she had more responsibilities on her shoulders and could not afford to think about those chaotic matters. 0

Worried that Night Star might have a fever at night, she specially brought back some extra water and herbs, so she wouldn't have to rush out to find them later. 0

Time in the cave seemed to pass quickly, like sand slipping through her fingers no matter how tightly she held on. 0

As the moon rose above the treetops, the temperature outside gradually dropped, and the cave was not much warmer. Candlelight flickered with the wind, and the woman in a thin shirt began to feel the chill of the mountains. 0

Turning to look at the man who had been sleeping soundly, he had been like a sleeping beauty who couldn't wake up since the afternoon, completely motionless. 0

She crouched down beside Night Star again, carefully studying his features. His chiseled cheeks and deep-set features were as profound as his character—cold yet irresistibly drawing her closer. 0

From the moment she first saw him, he had seemed indifferent, but after spending time together, she discovered his somewhat awkward personality. This man had become an unshakeable spell that entered her heart. 0

She could no longer drive him away or let him go. 0

"Cough cough..." The persistent coughing interrupted all her thoughts. She quickly lowered her head and instinctively patted his chest. 0

"What's wrong?" 0

"Water... water..." His voice was hoarse and weak; that simple sentence seemed to exhaust all his strength. 0

She scooped some boiling water from the pot and mixed it with the stream water she had brought back earlier. After tasting it to ensure it wasn't too hot, she slowly brought it to his lips. "Drink slowly; don't burn yourself." 0

Bit by bit, all the water went into his stomach. After a brief moment of awakening, the man fell back into unconsciousness. 0

By midnight, Night Star indeed developed a high fever as she had anticipated. She continuously used cold water to physically cool him down but dared not let him get too cold. 0

The fever that night was within a normal range; the wound was inflamed, which naturally caused a fever. However, if a simple fever were to develop into other ailments, that would not be a trivial matter. 0

He was dragged closer to the fire, and all the bedding in the cave was piled on top of him for warmth. 0

She hardly closed her eyes that night. Finally, when the sun began to rise, the man's body temperature stabilized and was no longer as hot as before. 0

With a light sigh, she almost weakly collapsed onto the ground. God knows how difficult that night had been for her! She was terrified that this man might leave her forever. 0

Looking at his sleeping face, her heart finally calmed down. A wave of fatigue washed over her, and unable to resist the drowsiness, she gradually fell asleep beside him. 0

That night was equally tough for Night Star; he spent the entire night in a state of fluctuating body temperature, which was uncomfortable for anyone. 0

Drowsily opening his eyes, he saw the soft top of the woman's head. He struggled to get up but realized that most of her body was lying on him. Even a slight movement could wake her. 0

Noticing this, the man quietly maintained his position, gazing thoughtfully at the top of her head. 0

From his angle, he could see the woman's somewhat pale cheeks, worn with hardship. Just one glance made his heart ache. He unconsciously raised his hand, wanting to touch her delicate face but froze in mid-air. 0

Rationality in his mind told him no! Keeping her by his side was only for that legend; how could he develop feelings for her that were not meant to be? 0

He wanted to turn away, but it felt as if invisible hands were gripping him tightly, making him unable to look away. 0

He didn't know how long he had been staring. Outside, the sun gradually rose higher, and beams of sunlight filtered in, casting warmth on Mo Xier's face. 0
