The Emperor's expression clearly darkened, and he looked at Mo Xier with a gloomy gaze, wanting to say something more. However, Night Star interjected, "Your Majesty, my mother truly likes her. She urged me to return early after coming to the palace today. As for the Empress Dowager's illness, we can follow her method." 0

Li Ye's face grew increasingly sullen, his pent-up anger simmering beneath the surface, but he could not express it in front of so many people. 0

Consort Jin could see the situation clearly and stepped forward to intimately link her arm with his wrist, smiling as she said, "Your Majesty, since that is the case, let us not make things difficult for her. It would be quite inappropriate. Besides, the young lady has promised to come to the palace to take a closer look at the Empress Dowager's illness in the future. Let us be a bit more lenient to avoid giving the impression that the royal family lacks grace." 0

Her comforting words provided the Emperor with an opportunity to back down. Who could resist such an understanding woman? He nodded in agreement, saying, "Then I shall not press her. The Empress Dowager's illness truly worries me; I hope you will not keep me waiting too long." 0

Mo Xier understood the implication behind his words and smiled as she nodded, saying, "Of course. Additionally, there is one more thing. As a woman, I cannot come to the palace every day like a man does for duty. I would like to request a favor from Your Majesty to be exempted from daily shifts." 0

"That is only natural. You need only concern yourself with the Empress Dowager's illness; you need not worry about anything else!" 0

"Thank you for your grace!" After respectfully bowing, she exited Liuli Hall with Night Star under the Emperor's watchful gaze. 0

Once the intense scrutiny faded away, Mo Xier let out a quiet sigh. The man following her couldn't help but shake his head and softly ask, "The Old Madam really likes you? Can't bear to part with you?" 0

The woman's face instantly flushed from her ears to her cheeks, unable to meet his gaze. The notion that the Old Madam favored her was merely a lie concocted to deceive the Emperor. 0

But if she didn't say it that way, how could the Emperor easily let her leave? She certainly did not wish to stay long in this palace that felt like a cage! 0

"I never realized before how skilled you are at weaving lies." 0

Instinctively turning her head and covering the man's mouth with her hand, she appeared flustered like a naive little deer. "Hey! We haven't even left the palace gates yet. If someone hears this and reports it to the Emperor, I would be committing treason!" 0

"So you know that too!" 0

"Well, once we are outside the palace, who knows how far away the Emperor is? As long as you don't say anything, who would know whether I truly get along well with the Old Madam?" 0

Pulling the man's wrist, she hurriedly moved forward, her desire to escape this place was exceptionally urgent. 0

Staring blankly at his wrist being held by her, Night Star was somewhat stunned. He could clearly feel the softness of the woman's palm and the warmth emanating from it. 0

This warmth seemed to thaw his heart, melting away the coldness within him, and his expression gradually softened. 0

In the silent palace, beneath the long palace walls, there were no guards or maidservants, only the two of them holding hands as they walked. Neither of them carried a lamp; under the moonlight, their figures appeared somewhat hazy. 0

The woman gradually quickened her pace, from a brisk walk to finally pulling the man’s hand and running quickly. The night wind brushed against her cheek, lifting her hair behind her like a dancer. 0

Her expression transformed from seriousness to a sunny smile, a warmth that was both intense and inviting. 0

Continuously glancing back at the man behind her, her bell-like laughter echoed through the lonely palace walls. 0

With her smile, the corners of the man's mouth unconsciously relaxed a bit. Although he still did not smile, his expression became much more agreeable. 0

After running for a while, Mo Xier's pace slowly slowed down. She was panting but wore a bright smile on her face. 0

After such a run, the frustration in her heart seemed to be blown away by the night wind, as if all her unhappiness had dissipated, and the gloom within her had lifted considerably. 0

However, while they had yet to leave the palace, news of their failed plan had already reached the mastermind behind it! 0

Sitting at the table, Jiang Yu was savoring the tea in his cup when he heard Rong Mama come to report. The cup slipped from his hand and shattered on the ground with a crisp sound in the dark night! 0

Rong Mama was startled and immediately knelt down to clean up. "Old Madam, this Demoness cannot be dealt with easily; you need to remain calm." 0

"Remain calm?" A hint of disdain curled at her lips as she coldly laughed. "How can I remain calm with such a woman residing in the General's residence, seducing hearts?" Saying this, she slammed her palm on the table beside her with a loud bang, her expression growing increasingly grim. 0

"What have you been doing? Did that Dancer say anything?" 0

"Old Madam, rest assured, the person we found is very reliable. I heard that when he died, he even wanted to take the opportunity to kill that Demoness, but since Young Master was there and that Demoness is quite clever, he ultimately failed." 0

Upon hearing this response, her anxious heart finally calmed down a bit. 0

"Old Madam, I also heard that the Emperor has praised that Demoness greatly and even appointed her as the Imperial Physician!" Rong Mama said while picking up the broken pieces from the ground. 0

Old Madam's face grew increasingly grim, dark as a pot bottom, and her anger surged within her. 0

"What are you all doing! You can't even handle her! They say things can happen once or twice but not three times! This is already the second time; she must be on guard now! How can it be so easy next time!" 0

"Old Madam, please don't be angry. There will always be a way. According to my suggestion, you don't have to act yourself," Rong Mama said with a sly grin, clearly full of wicked ideas. 0

With her eyes slightly raised, Old Madam glanced at her and continued to turn the Buddhist beads in her hand, asking, "Then tell me, what other methods can there be?" 0

"Since we can't get rid of her, let's find ways to make things difficult for her! Make things difficult for Young Master! Even if we can't kill her, making her feel frustrated will still bring us some joy!" 0

Although Rong Mama's idea was somewhat despicable, it was indeed a good method. Old Madam's eyes darkened slightly as she revealed a contemplative expression. 0

Under the flickering candlelight, their expressions appeared somewhat sinister, exuding a chill of the deep night that would make anyone shiver involuntarily. 0

On her way back to the residence, Mo Xier could hardly imagine that although she had not entered the palace's cage, life in the General's residence was not so easy either! 0

After working hard for most of the night, the woman finally lay down on the couch with great satisfaction and let out a sigh, burying her head deep into the soft brocade quilt. Only in this space that belonged solely to her could she truly relax. 0

At the banquet, Night Star's words echoed continuously in her mind, and the Dancer who wanted to harm her life lingered like an unshakeable nightmare. 0

The previously tranquil environment was suddenly disturbed by her chaotic thoughts, like a stone thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples of turmoil. 0

Irritatedly sitting up from the bed, she instinctively reached to mess up her long hair but stopped when she touched the bun on top of her head. How could this hairstyle be casually tousled like in modern times? 0

Feeling a bit frustrated, she once again threw herself heavily onto the soft bed, and if one looked closely, they could even see the height to which her body bounced. 0

In her agitated state, she felt an overwhelming resentment with no outlet! Unable to contain herself, she shouted, startling the maid on night duty outside. 0

"Miss, are you alright?" The maid asked as she pushed the door to enter, but she immediately blocked the entrance. 0

"Don't come in! I'm fine!" 0

Since Ru Er's death, she had refused Night Star's suggestion to arrange for more maids, keeping only a few servants for regular cleaning. Now, even her hair was styled by herself. 0

Having learned from Ru Er's experience, she no longer wished to get too close to anyone, fearing that on the day of betrayal, she would once again taste that bone-deep heartache. 0

Turning over, she gazed at the flickering lights outside the window, her eyes beginning to wander. The man's words still echoed in her ears; she could almost feel his warm breath on her neck and faintly remember the warmth of his lips. 0

Her slender fingers lightly brushed over her own lips, causing her cheeks to flush. The enchanting atmosphere truly stirred her imagination. After rolling around restlessly for a while, she had to admit that she was shy—shy because of a few words from Night Star. 0

Yet the turmoil in her heart overshadowed her shyness. She clearly knew where she came from but had no idea where she would ultimately go. 0

Staring blankly at the candlelight, as night deepened, she unknowingly fell asleep. In a misty haze, she could not see the road ahead. After such a long time, she found herself once again trapped in a nightmare. 0

In a panic, she turned to escape; the overwhelming unease in her heart made her feel exceptionally uncomfortable. Not being able to see the road ahead only added to her anxiety. 0

Sure enough, the White-Clad Woman appeared again, but this time even more indistinct. She reached out to grab her but caught nothing; everything before her was merely an illusion! 0

Continuing forward, it felt as though her eyes were shrouded in thick fog. After the White-Clad Woman vanished, a man in armor appeared! Clad in black armor and riding a tall steed, his figure struck her as strangely familiar, yet she couldn't recall where she had seen him before! 0

Suddenly, the previously vanished White-Clad Woman reappeared out of nowhere. Though her profile was hazy, she could sense the intense gaze the woman directed at the man—so passionate and filled with longing. 0

The heavy fog gradually dispersed. After having this dream several times in succession, she finally caught a glimpse of the true appearance of the White-Clad Woman! 0

That familiar face was none other than her own! 0

Surprised, she stepped back repeatedly, turning her gaze to the man once more. On the tall steed, the man had a pair of sword-like eyebrows that exuded an imposing presence. She recognized this face as that of Night Star! 0

This scene struck her like a thunderbolt, causing her to retreat in fear! 0

What was happening? Could it be that what one thinks about during the day manifests in dreams at night? 0

"Why don't you love me?" The White-Clad Woman's voice was gentle, filled with deep grievance. Without any visible emotion, just hearing her voice seemed to convey the tears in her eyes. It was heart-wrenching to hear, and anyone who saw it would be moved to comfort her. 0

Her gaze shifted to the man, who wore a serious expression. His demeanor was as indifferent as she remembered, completely unmoved by the woman's words. 0

"Are you really this cold?" The woman's voice grew more agitated as she took a few steps forward, wanting to get closer. 0

However, the man on the horse immediately pulled back a few steps, his expression extremely cold, unwilling to spare her even a glance. 0

This action pierced her heart instantly; sorrow was evident in her eyes as she staggered back in shock. "I never thought you were such a person; I must have been blind to have misjudged you!" 0

The man remained expressionless, not even giving her a fleeting glance, as if she were nothing more than a lifeless object before him. 0

Tears brimmed in her eyes and fell silently, carrying an unspoken accusation. Realizing that everything she sought was merely a wishful thinking felt like a knife twisting in her heart, beyond what words could describe. 0
