Mo Xier's smile suddenly froze as she softly said, "Just focus on fixing my hair. It's getting late outside, and if I don't finish in time, your young master will arrive and blame you for it."
Xinrong playfully stuck out her tongue and stopped talking, concentrating on her task.
Sure enough, not long after her words fell, Night Star entered the room. Seeing the woman quietly sitting on the stool, a sense of satisfaction welled up inside him.
She hadn't slept well all night, and neither had Night Star. The events of the past few days kept flashing before his eyes, and he felt a sense of uncertainty about whether the woman would stay here—something he had never experienced in all these years.
Upon seeing the man at the door through the mirror, her eyes revealed a knowing expression. It was indeed Night Star; there was no time to waste.
"You see? I wasn't wrong, was I? The rooster hasn't crowed yet, and your young master is already here!"
Her teasing words were not spoken quietly; everyone in the room heard her clearly, including the man who had just entered.
His steps paused for a moment, his cold gaze turned toward her but received no response.
"Miss..." Xinrong whispered in her ear, trying to remind her.
But she acted as if she hadn't heard at all, still smiling. "What do you want me to say? Am I wrong? Isn't your young master just anxious?"
"Yes! I'm anxious," he replied to Mo Xier's teasing without a hint of embarrassment, instead showing a calm demeanor as he said, "Isn't it because I'm afraid a heavenly beauty like you might suddenly disappear?"
"Pah!" She made a face as if disgusted. Then she returned to normal and said to Xinrong behind her, "Hurry up; don't keep your young master waiting."
"No need to rush; take your time. It's still early outside, and Old Madam won't be up that early." He seemed unconcerned, casually pouring himself a cup of tea and sitting at the table to leisurely enjoy it.
Although Night Star said this, Xinrong's movements quickened. In no time, she had helped the woman with her grooming and dressing.
Since coming to the general's residence, the woman had acquired more clothing, all made of precious materials. Night Star was quite generous with her, showing no concern for these material possessions.
Today, she wore a light pink dress that made her look exceptionally delicate, appearing much younger and accentuating her somewhat pale complexion even more.
Seeing her face, the man's brows furrowed tightly as he gestured to Xinrong and instructed, "Why is her complexion so pale?"
"In response to the young master's question, the young lady's cheeks were swollen from being struck last night, so she cannot wear makeup today. That is why her complexion looks so ghastly," Xinrong replied nervously, lowering her head and not daring to meet anyone's gaze.
"It's fine; if she's a bit pale, then so be it. This way, I can appear more pitiful!" Mo Xier lightly touched her cheek, speaking as if it were only natural.
The man's gaze settled steadily on her face, his eyes revealing a hint of inquiry. In the end, he nodded in agreement with her perspective.
Once they were ready, they left the courtyard.
Under the man's orders, only the two of them walked along the path while all the servants followed at a distance, only able to see their backs.
Mo Xier gently linked her arm through his, her face full of smiles. Her bright eyes occasionally focused on the newly risen sun, sparkling like its rays.
Night Star turned to look at her; his indifferent eyes suddenly held a different emotion—radiant like the sun and irresistibly captivating.
Noticing his gaze beside her, she spoke without turning around, "Stop staring at me; otherwise, I'll think you've fallen for me."
The gaze that had been fixed on her instantly froze and became unnoticeable. The woman's smile remained as she softly said, "Am I really that beautiful? Is it worth your undivided attention?"
"I made it very clear that night; do I need to say it again here?" the man replied in a deep voice. His gaze shifted back to the woman, intense and filled with heat.
Mo Xier suddenly stopped her step, turned her head, and for the first time, her gaze was serious. "Then I will answer you seriously once. There is no possibility between us. I will never forgive someone who deceives me!"
She released the hand she was holding and stepped forward with a smile. "Promise me this; I hope you can do it. Don't regret it just because I don't accept your pursuit. That wouldn't be very manly!"
Night Star was stunned for a moment, a hint of embarrassment crossing his indifferent face before he turned away. "I'll keep my word."
"That's good!" After saying that, she smiled again and linked her arm with his, meeting his gaze with unusual calmness, which made Night Star feel somewhat awkward.
He tried to pull his hand away from Mo Xier's grip, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't break free; she held on tightly.
"Why do you want to break free? Aren't we like a couple in love?" Her smile grew even brighter, filled with determination. She had always been clear about her intentions; it was just acting after all. As long as it didn't touch her bottom line, what couldn't she do?
Realizing he couldn't escape, he allowed the woman to hold onto him.
The servants following behind were dumbfounded; they had never seen their young master have much contact with other women. But looking at the two in front of them, how could they still feel the previous distance?
As they got closer to Old Madam's residence, the distance the servants kept also began to shorten significantly. They looked at the intertwined arms of the two in surprise, unable to help but marvel.
Indeed, this was someone the young master brought back himself; how could he be so intimate with her without any fear?
Arriving in front of Old Madam's courtyard, it was still early in the day, and Old Madam was resting. However, someone had been waiting outside for a long time—it was Liu Xuxin.
She had gotten up early, wanting to stay in the General's residence; she needed to find a support within this household, and Old Madam was undoubtedly a good choice for her.
Anyone would appreciate a sensible and filial junior. However, upon seeing the affectionate pair together, Liu Xuxin's eyes instantly narrowed, and she involuntarily took a step back in surprise.
Cui Er, standing behind her, instinctively supported her. Meeting her gaze, Mo Xier happened to turn around and saw the woman standing not far away.
The smile on her face grew even more radiant, just like last night, as her gaze fell upon Cui Er standing behind her. Cui Er looked swollen, clearly having been beaten yesterday; even with such thick makeup, it was evident.
Tightly gripping the man's wrist, Mo Xier wore a mocking smile on her face. "Oh, isn't this Miss Liu? Up so early today?"
"Aren't you up early as well? Besides, Old Madam is my Aunt. As a junior, isn't it my duty to wait and greet my elders?"
"Miss Liu is quite eloquent today; how come we didn't see you last night?"
"How can I be less proper than you?" A disdainful look was directed at her hand intertwined with the man’s, filled with contempt.
But if one looked closely, they could see the jealousy lurking deep in the woman's eyes.
As if she had heard a joke, Mo Xier's smile widened further, her body leaning closer to Night Star. "Oh, Star, is Miss Liu jealous of me? I can smell a hint of sourness in the air."
The man remained indifferent, not even glancing at Liu Xuxin, his gaze fixed on the door of Old Madam's room.
Knowing she couldn't win the argument, Liu Xuxin turned away and fell silent. However, Mo Xier was relentless. She sauntered over to her side, her gaze shifting from her to Cui Er. "Oh my! Look at our Cui Er, did someone torment you last night?"
Cui Er's face instantly turned extremely ugly, forcing an awkward smile. "What nonsense are you talking about? It's just a little allergic swelling."
"Tsk tsk tsk, with that little face of yours, it seems your master isn't doing very well!" After saying that, she placed her hand on Cui Er's face and pinched it hard without any care.
As soon as she did, Cui Er couldn't help but let out a soft grunt; the pain shot through her face.
Just as the cry of pain escaped her lips, she was met with Mo Xier's disdainful expression. "Oh? Didn't you say it was an allergy? Why do you react so strongly when I just lightly pinched you?"
Cui Er's face instantly flushed red, involuntarily shrinking back a bit.
However, before Step could step back, her wrist was suddenly grabbed by her. "What are you stepping back for? I'm not a tiger; do you think I could eat you?"
A knowing smile appeared on her face as she continued relentlessly, "You wouldn't really have been beaten up, would you? Tsk tsk tsk, Cui Er, you need to be more observant when following your master. Not just anyone can accompany you."
Liu Xuxin's face turned almost green with anger as she yanked Cui Er's wrist and pulled her behind her. "This is my servant; it has nothing to do with you, Miss."
She raised an eyebrow, her eyes filled with disdain. "I was just showing concern. Why is Miss Liu so agitated? Don't let others truly think you hit your own maid!"
One sentence after another left Liu Xuxin speechless and unable to retort.
"What are you all making a fuss about? Don't you know Old Madam is still resting?" Before she could finish her sentence, Rong Mama's loud voice rang out from the doorway.
Startled, everyone turned their attention to her. Rong Mama shot a fierce glare at each person, while Night Star remained unfazed.
"Oh, isn't this the young master and Miss Mo? You made Old Madam faint from anger and still have the audacity to come here?" Rong Mama's gaze shifted to Liu Xuxin standing beside them, and her tone changed instantly. "Miss Liu, why are you here so early? Didn't I tell you to rest well yesterday?"
Nodding slightly, she gently replied, "I was worried about Aunt's health. I couldn't sleep well all night and came over early this morning to check on her; it makes me feel better."
"Miss Liu, don't worry. If anything happens, I will be the first to inform you." Her smiling face carried a hint of insincerity and flattery.
