"Young Master, the doctor has been summoned," Xinrong suppressed a laugh and respectfully reported.
Night Star raised his gaze slightly towards the newcomer and noticed it was not Doctor Wang, who was frequently used in the general's residence. A hint of hesitation flashed in his eyes as he asked in a deep voice, "Why is it not Doctor Wang?"
"I did go to summon Doctor Wang, but he is at Miss Liu's place. I thought Doctor Wang would not be able to come back quickly, and since the young lady is eager to treat her wound, I brought Dr. Li instead," Xinrong explained.
Dr. Li was also a doctor at the general's residence, but he was not often called upon and his medical skills were certainly not on par with Doctor Wang's.
The man frowned; using such a doctor to treat her facial injury would likely leave a scar. The thought of Mo Xier's exquisite face bearing an unsightly scar made him feel quite uneasy!
"Go find Doctor Wang from Liu Xuxin's place for me. How serious could her injury be? He must treat her!" he ordered without a second thought.
Just as Xinrong was about to step away, she was stopped by Mo Xier, who lightly laughed and said, "They are all doctors; they can all treat her. Besides, there is a queue for medical treatment. Since she called him first, let Doctor Wang go; I only need him."
Mo Xier was indifferent; she herself was a doctor. If Dr. Li could not treat this injury properly, she could still handle it herself.
However, Liu Xuxin's injury was quite serious. If it wasn't treated properly, it would likely lead to unnecessary scarring.
Although she had strong opinions about herself, this injury had already taught her a valuable lesson. If there were to be another incident, it wouldn't be so easily brushed aside!
"Have you really thought this through? This is your own face! Do you really want to leave a scar?" Night Star strongly disagreed with the woman's words, even his usually calm tone losing its balance.
Glancing back at him, the woman replied lightly, "It's just a face. Don't forget, I am also a doctor; I know what is best for myself."
At these words, everyone present fell silent. Little did the woman know that her face was something many women in this world dreamt of having. "It's just a face." What kind of mindset does one need to say such a thing?
Her words were genuinely heartfelt; she did not care much about her appearance. To her, looks were merely superficial.
It was just skin; no matter how beautiful she looked, those who liked her would continue to do so, and those who disliked her would not change their feelings because of her appearance.
The man stared at her intently, his eyes filled with confusion. "You don't need to be afraid or worry about anything. I still have a say in the General's residence; it's just a doctor, nothing to be concerned about."
Thinking she was worried about something, Night Star emphasized his position in the General's residence. Upon hearing this, the woman couldn't help but laugh. She understood clearly; the man had made himself quite clear, and there was no way she could misunderstand.
"No need for that. Just him? Miss Liu came here alone from Yancheng; are you really going to let your cousin live like this in the General's residence?" Her words carried a hint of sarcasm, mocking him for not taking care of his cousin properly.
Night Star, however, didn't mind. Seeing the woman insist on not changing doctors, his heart sank a little. Since she said she didn't want it, then he wouldn't change.
Night Star turned to Dr. Li and instructed in a low voice, "I'm leaving her in your care now. Make sure to watch over her closely; otherwise, you know the rules of the General's residence."
Dr. Li trembled continuously, appearing very nervous. He could hear every word exchanged between them.
He knew he wasn't capable; otherwise, he wouldn't have been under Doctor Wang for so long in the General's residence, only able to treat minor ailments for the servants.
"Don't listen to him trying to scare you; just do your best. Even if this face gets ruined, it's fine," Mo Xier said generously. No matter how much the man pressured or tempted her, she insisted on saying these words to reassure the doctor.
Dr. Li shivered as he stepped forward. In front of Night Star, he didn't even dare to lift his head; how could he help her with her treatment like this?
Glancing disdainfully at the man beside her, Mo Xier softly said, "Don't look at the doctor so fiercely; if you stare like that, how can anyone dare to treat me properly?"
The man snorted coldly, his gaze fixed intently on the person before him, filled with scrutiny. "If I'm not here, how will I know if he's treating you seriously?"
Night Star almost always overlooked that she was a doctor herself and disregarded her thoughts, only wanting to stay here and watch.
Seeing his determined expression, she finally compromised. "Fine, let him stay, but don't look at others with such fierce eyes; it's quite frightening."
She then turned to Dr. Li and said gently, "Doctor, you don't need to be nervous; just pretend he doesn't exist. As I said before, even if you can't treat it well, it's okay."
"Yes." Trembling, Dr. Li still didn't dare to lift his head. Hearing the woman's gentle voice did nothing to ease his anxiety; instead, it made him tremble even more violently.
She slowly raised her gaze towards the woman, cautiously beginning to examine her wounds. The areas on her face that had been scratched by fingers were still raw, and although the blood had been cleaned up, the wounds remained somewhat terrifying.
"I wonder what caused this injury, miss?"
"Nails? How bad is it?" Before she could respond, Night Star had already answered, his anxious demeanor suggesting that it was not the woman's face that was ruined, but rather his own.
Glancing uneasily at Night General, Dr. Li replied submissively, "It's not too serious, but you need to take good care of yourself for the next few days. Avoid eating anything heavily colored, and with the medicine I prescribe, it's possible you won't have any scars."
"Possible?"
"Yes. I don't know who was so vicious; looking at the wounds on your face, it must have been someone with very sharp nails. If not, it wouldn't have caused such deep injuries."
Dr. Li shook his head, a look of helplessness on his face as he continued, "If it were just a regular nail scratch, it definitely wouldn't be this severe."
Listening to his words, Night Star's expression grew increasingly grim, his anger building up. He shouldn't have listened to Mo Xier and let that woman go!
A woman as malicious as this should be taught a lesson! Otherwise, such things would happen again.
Mo Xier's expression remained calm; even after hearing the doctor's assessment, she acted as if nothing was wrong. A slight smile curved her lips as she said, "Dr. Li, don't worry. As long as it's your medicine, I will definitely take it without hesitation. You don't need to feel pressured."
"I tell you, if you're going to treat it, treat it properly! If there are still unsightly scars left in the end, you'll know what it means to wish you were dead!"
As soon as the woman's words fell, he couldn't wait to threaten her, his entire being emanating a strange gloominess as if he might explode at any moment.
Mo Xier shook her head helplessly; this man was simply unbelievable! Always so eager—where was the aloofness he had before?
Then she pressed down on his hand and softly said, "This is my own face. You either sit quietly here and watch or get out and stop causing trouble. If you keep talking like that, will the doctor even dare to treat me properly?"
Her disdain was evident in her words; no one had ever dared to speak to him like that before. For a moment, the room fell silent as no one dared to look up at the two of them.
Night Star suddenly widened her eyes. Although the anger in her heart had already surged, it vanished instantly upon seeing the wounds on her face, and she forced herself to hold it back. She slightly raised her hand to signal Dr. Li to continue, while turning her gaze away as if she did not exist.
“Dr. Li, please continue.”
Glancing timidly at the man, Dr. Li gathered his courage and said softly, “I will come every day until your wounds heal completely. You can rest assured that I will take responsibility for your treatment.”
A satisfied look appeared in her eyes. Although Dr. Li seemed a bit timid, he still showed a sense of responsibility as a doctor.
Even under the pressure from the man, he was able to say such words, which should not be underestimated.
With Dr. Li's help, the wounds on her face had been cleaned up. The bandaged face looked particularly strange; half of it was covered, making it impossible to see her full appearance.
As she carefully examined the person in the mirror, she could hardly recognize herself. With her beauty concealed, she appeared no different from an ordinary person.
Xinrong, who had been watching her closely, wore a worried expression. Seeing the bandages on her face made his own face turn even more grim.
“Miss, what are we going to do? For a long time to come, you will have to live with these bandages. You were such a beautiful woman; look at what that Miss Liu has done!”
There was a hint of reproach in Xinrong's tone as he frowned and looked at her with concern.
Raising an eyebrow slightly, she placed her hand over the bandage and felt no pain anymore. She slowly curled her lips into a smile and said, “Having these bandages is fine; without my external appearance, I can live more freely and easily.”
“But how will you go out and meet people like this? At this rate, you probably won't be able to go out for quite some time.”
“It’s no problem; I just need to wear a mask.”
Her seemingly casual remark caused Xinrong to widen his eyes in surprise. Not only him but even Night Star, who had been sitting nearby, looked slightly astonished.
It seemed that this woman truly did not care about her appearance; otherwise, how could she display such grace?
Looking at the man in the mirror, Mo Xier was filled with confusion. What was going on? Why did he have to stay here for so long today? And suddenly appear in the garden?
The more she thought about it, the more she felt something was off!
"The doctor is here now, and your wound has been treated. Why are you still lingering here?"
"Am I not allowed to stay here?"
As soon as the man's words fell, Mo Xier's response came immediately. "Of course not! This is my private room! I need to rest!"
"I'll watch you rest."
Did she not make her intention to kick him out clear enough? Why did this man seem unable to understand? Where had his usual cleverness gone?
"Hey! You're a man, how can you just enter a woman's private room? Have you considered my feelings?"
"It's not like I haven't seen it before." He said this with a sense of justification.
Mo Xier was momentarily stunned. What did he mean by saying that in front of so many people? What did he mean by 'it's not like I haven't seen it'? There was nothing between them to begin with; why did he have to say something that could be misunderstood?
Xinrong, who had never experienced such matters, felt her fair cheeks flush instantly. How could this young master and young lady say such things in public?
Dr. Li was so startled that he nearly dropped the medicine box he was holding, which fell to the ground with a loud crash.
