"Of course not."
Mo Xier chuckled lightly, casting a meaningful glance at the woman dressed in snow-forged attire. She drank her tea in one gulp and boldly remarked, "This tea is terrible; it's too bitter."
After saying that, she turned to the man beside her. "Wood, I want to eat candied hawthorn."
Liu Xuxin found her silly expression amusing and couldn't help but mock her. This foolish girl thought she could have candied hawthorn in the summer; the syrup must have melted by now.
How could her cold cousin fall for her tricks? It was truly a case of flattering someone who was beyond flattery. With that thought, she looked on with a disdainful expression, eager to see the outcome.
"Buy it." To everyone's surprise, Night Star paused and unexpectedly spoke up.
"But is there really any available this season?" Mo Xier asked, clinging to his arm and acting coyly. Her plump little lips pouted, instantly igniting a desire in him to kiss her.
"No, I'll have Qinglong buy fresh hawthorn and make it for you." His voice remained icy, but Liu Xuxin noticed a hint of softness in his gaze as he looked at Mo Xier.
Tightly gripping the handkerchief in her hand, Liu Xuxin maintained a false smile while biting her lip and softly said, "Sister Mo Xi'er should choose something else to eat."
However, Mo Xier was not swayed by her words and shot her a cold glance. "Please call me Princess, old woman."
"Who are you calling an old woman?" In an instant, Liu Xuxin's voice twisted as she spoke, her smile tightening without a trace of sincerity.
Night Star's cold gaze swept over her. In that fleeting moment, her anger dissipated entirely, leaving her feeling deflated like a punctured balloon.
She softened completely, biting down on her teeth and lowering her head in silence.
"I don't want what Azure Dragon made; it's not tasty. I want to eat what you personally made." Turning around, Mo Xier sweetly pouted at the tall and handsome man.
Azure Dragon's shoulder armor made him look imposing.
"Uh, I made it?" The man was taken aback, looking at the woman beside him in surprise. With her soft body pressed tightly against his chest, he gently replied, "Whatever you make is definitely the best."
As she spoke, she stood on her tiptoes and leaned closer to his ear, "It has the flavor of love!"
Her height was insufficient, so he instinctively bent down slightly to listen. After hearing her playful words, he couldn't help but laugh heartily.
Liu Xuxin clenched her fists tightly beside them. Her nails dug deep into her flesh without her feeling any pain; in that moment, she felt her heart bleeding.
"You're mischievous." He playfully pinched her little nose and led her toward the inner room. His chest was still heavily injured and he couldn't stand for long; he needed to lie down and recuperate.
Due to Mo Xier's strict demands, he pulled her into the inner room. It had been a long time since anyone lived there, but it was still kept clean and tidy.
In the ancestral hall, Old Madam fiddled with the green jade beads in her hand, her expression dark. A maid beside her said, "Madam, the young master has returned. He brought that woman with him."
"Demoness! How dare she come back! And my son too; that ungrateful wretch didn't die out there? Truly lucky."
Old Madam said fiercely.
The little maid shivered in fear and dared not say anything more.
Old Madam opened her eyes, her gaze sharp as she looked toward the wooden door. Hearing distant sounds of laughter, her heart felt as if it were shrouded by dark clouds.
"Truly an Abomination!" With this thought, she missed her own flesh and blood even more, recalling the figure of the man she saw in the Imperial Garden that day, a man with the high dignity of an emperor, and her heart ached as if it were bleeding.
Intense hatred surged within her. "If it weren't for this wretched being, why should I endure such pain akin to being torn apart today?"
The young maid lowered her head, afraid to speak, puzzled about what the Old Madam was saying.
The Old Madam angrily tossed a string of dark green beads onto the ground, and with a clatter, the beads scattered and rolled away. Remembering the plan Jiang Huai had shared with her yesterday, she felt a slight stirring in her heart.
Should she really acknowledge him? Would this affect her Child?
In Night Star's room, Mo Xier sat on the edge of the bed, holding a bowl of thick black medicinal soup. She gently scooped some out with a small porcelain spoon, blew on it, and brought it to her lips. "Open your mouth, ah!"
She gestured for him to open his mouth wide. Night Star looked at her in surprise, finding it somewhat amusing; this woman seemed to think of herself as a child.
He reached out and grasped her wrist with one hand while taking the bowl from her with the other. He drank it all in one gulp and carelessly tossed the bowl to the ground, shattering it into pieces. With a bit of force, he pulled her onto his bed, ignoring her struggles as he held her waist tightly in his embrace. "I am a proper man; what does it look like for a girl to coax me into taking medicine?"
Mo Xier lowered her head, her face flushed. "I was just worried you’d find it bitter. Look at how your cousin treated you just now; she would have gladly fed you tea if I hadn’t stopped you! You didn’t say anything at all!"
"Eh?" The man on the bed let out a strange exclamation, surprised. "When did I ever accept tea from her? How could she feed me?"
She lightly punched his chest with her small fist and pouted playfully. "You did! If I hadn’t stopped you just now, you would have taken it! You might even have thanked her! That vixen, hum!"
Mo Xier snorted disdainfully through her nose.
"Haha, are you jealous?" Night Star said happily as he pulled her closer into his embrace, teasing her.
"Hmph. Not at all, who would be jealous of you?" She turned her head away, looking elsewhere, her tone dismissive.
"Really?" He reached out and gently turned her head to face him, saying, "How much do I weigh in your heart?"
"Um..." She pondered for a moment. When he opened his mouth, his warm breath brushed against her face, making her feel a bit flushed. She replied, "Eight parts."
"Only eight parts?" He frowned, somewhat dissatisfied.
His hand around her waist tightened a little more. She raised an eyebrow and said proudly, "How about that? Isn't it enough to show how much I value you?"
"Bullshit!" He awkwardly cursed at her, then lowered his head and pressed his thin lips against hers, which were still slightly warm even in the blazing summer.
She wanted to argue but was momentarily silenced by the warmth and softness, closing her eyes.
In that instant of their lips meeting, he continuously invaded and claimed her mouth.
She closed her eyes, quietly feeling his warmth. The other half of her soul that resonated with hers was right in front of her. At that moment, she suddenly understood the fundamental meaning of why heaven had brought her here.
In another room of Night Manor, Liu Xuxin overturned chairs and tables, smashing a vase into pieces. The maid beside her hurriedly came over to stop her, anxiously saying, "Miss, you can't do this!"
"Leave me alone! Get away!" She coldly pushed the maid away and ran to grab another vase to smash it on the ground. The floor was covered in shattered porcelain dust.
A maid stood calmly at the door, coldly watching everything unfold. This was the maid specially left by her mother to stay by her side, named Ruo Er.
Ruo Er's thoughts were deep and her expression serene. Watching her master go on a rampage without furrowing her brows, she waited until Liu Xuxin finally sat down on the ground in a daze before calmly speaking up: "Miss, we should fight back."
"You say it's easy, but that vixen has occupied my cousin's heart. What can I do?!" Liu Xuxin said, leaving two lines of tears as she helplessly gazed into the distance.
"Miss, men are always fickle. They have no heart to speak of; for them, a woman is just a novelty. Once that novelty wears off, they remain wild and uninhibited. They are like beasts, always craving the thrill of capturing their prey," Ruo Er quietly analyzed.
"What do you mean?" Liu Xuxin raised her head, looking despondently at the maid by the door.
"I mean, Miss, do not lose your composure in front of the general. You must strive for perfection..." As she spoke, she quickly stepped over the broken porcelain shards and approached Liu Xuxin, whispering something in her ear.
Liu Xuxin's eyes instantly brightened, shining with a strange light in the dim room.
A few days later, an invitation arrived from the palace for the Empress Dowager's upcoming birthday celebration.
The Emperor planned to host a grand banquet for the powerful families and young nobles in court. Night Star was also on the guest list, but for some reason, Old Madam's name had been added. This was not particularly strange.
However, for some reason, Mo Xier felt it was odd and had a bad premonition.
Night Star's wounds were healing very quickly. He drank the soup medicine she prepared daily and took the various bottles and jars left for him by the Emperor. She even specially made chicken soup and sometimes changed things up with fish soup or shrimp porridge to nourish him.
He was recovering rapidly.
"Get up; it's time to eat." She gently pushed open the door, carrying a warm clay pot as she entered and softly said.
Night Star sat up from the bed, touched his chest, and sniffed the fragrant aroma in the air. With a hint of indulgence, he said, "In the future, you can have the servants do these things; you don't need to do it yourself."
He walked to the table and took her hand. The cold temperature instantly transmitted warmth into his palm, a refreshing chill seeping through.
"Why is it so cold?" he asked with concern, carefully placing her palm into his embrace, sliding it in from the collar to rest against his warm chest.
Mo Xier's hand trembled slightly as she paused, allowing him to position it over his heart, feeling the strong and powerful rhythm of his heartbeat.
Perhaps it was because she was a doctor that she was particularly sensitive to the sound of heartbeats and the pulse's intensity.
"Come eat, or it'll get cold," she said, struggling to retract her hand. With a bright smile, she served him a small bowl of soup. The translucent, silky chicken floated enticingly in the broth, looking especially tempting.
She felt a sense of pride; this was her specialty. When she was young and living with her mother, they often went hungry and couldn't have hot meals. Her mother worked long hours for their livelihood, so after school, she would try cooking for herself. By the time she grew up, her culinary skills had become quite impressive.
"Delicious! Girl, your cooking is getting better and better."
He gently blew on the soup before taking a sip, praising her as he gazed at the woman before him with star-like eyes and a graceful figure. He felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction and an unprecedented gratitude for having found such a wonderful girl.
How lucky he was that she loved him.
How fortunate that he loved her deeply in return.
At that moment, a sudden announcement came from outside: "The Emperor has arrived."
"The Emperor? Why is the Emperor here?"
Mo Xier furrowed her brows, looking worriedly at the man in front of her. His hair was as black as ink, meticulously styled in the morning, and he wore a dark purple robe embroidered with golden threads, exuding an air of wealth and authority.
