This place is different from the Penglai Nation. Due to its location, the sun lingers longer there, while here, the horizon is painted with orange-red hues, and the woman in his arms has a face illuminated by the afterglow.
He felt an inexplicable softness in his heart. Is this really his sister? If not...
As he pondered, a strange feeling began to rise within him, something novel that he had never experienced before. What could it be? Jiang Wei couldn't figure it out. When he looked up again, he had already arrived at Night Star's room.
The Shadow Guard, who was often seen bustling around Night Star during the day, stood guard in the room with a serious expression.
Upon seeing Qinglong, he immediately stepped forward and asked, "Where is your master?"
Qinglong was taken aback for a moment. Seeing the woman in his arms with a closed expression, he suddenly felt a surge of surprise.
"What happened?" he stammered, asking with concern.
"Quickly find a room to settle her down and call a doctor to take a look. Bring your master out," Jiang Wei said impatiently, staring at the woman in his arms with an inexplicable anxiety. He had never encountered such a situation before. What was going on today? He felt that her life was incredibly important.
It seemed to carry his longing for over ten years, the life of the Empress Dowager, and his long-held hopes.
"The general went into the palace early this morning and hasn't returned yet," Qinglong said after a pause, showing a troubled expression.
"Then hurry up and find a place to settle her down. Do as I say," Jiang Wei replied impatiently, his tone laced with anger.
"Yes." Qinglong quickly stepped aside to let him enter the general's courtyard and led him to another room that had been specially prepared for the young lady. Sometimes, she would stay here for convenience when meeting with the general.
Jiang Wei walked into a room filled with feminine charm. The layout was warm and cozy, decorated in a floral style that exuded a pastoral vibe.
This arrangement surprisingly gave off a subtle sense of comfort, contrasting sharply with the overall decor style of the Night Family. It seemed deliberately crafted.
Could she be so uniquely different? If she desired something, Night Star would surely not refuse her—no matter if it were mountains of gold or silver or even the world itself...
Thinking of this, he suddenly frightened himself with his own thoughts. The world? How could he think of the world? This was the domain of the Li Family...
"Ah." He sighed, shook his head, dismissing this unrealistic thought, and carried the woman in his arms into the house. He reached out to check her pulse and felt her forehead, surprised to find that she was merely exhausted and had fallen asleep.
How could this be? This woman... He frowned, uncertain of his judgment. After all, he was a martial artist, not a professional doctor. He would have to wait for the doctor to arrive.
That night, as darkness enveloped the sky, Night Star wearily returned from outside. Upon entering the residence, someone immediately came to report to him, speaking softly in his ear.
After hearing the report, Night Star's expression tightened. Ignoring his fatigue, he hurriedly walked toward another room in his courtyard.
The warm atmosphere in the room was familiar, with scents swirling around just like in the past, stirring the softness within him. He rushed to the window and saw another man standing by the bed, waiting for him to return.
"Thank you." He politely cupped his hands in greeting.
Seeing him back, Jiang Wei stood up and also cupped his hands in return. "No problem. Since you are back, I won't stay any longer."
"What happened? Where did you find Mo Xi'er?" Night Star asked hurriedly, his eyes revealing unmasked gratitude.
"From the sky. I don't know how it happened; she fell from above and happened to be spotted by me. Fortunately, I noticed in time. Otherwise..."
He sighed as he imagined a woman falling to the ground in a terrible state—simply unbearable to think about. "The doctor has been here and said she suffered from excessive shock. Take good care of her; there are bruises on her hands and feet."
"Thank you, brother. In the future, if you need anything, I will definitely do my best as long as it is within my capabilities," Night Star said, gazing tenderly at the woman sleeping quietly on the bed.
"Alright. I'm leaving." Jiang Wei patted his shoulder and took one last look at the bed before turning to leave. For some reason, at that moment, a faint sense of reluctance arose in his heart.
After Jiang Wei left, Night Star immediately walked to the bedside, looking at that familiar face. Waves of emotion surged within him; thank heavens you have returned.
After praying silently, he leaned down to check on her carefully, afraid that he might accidentally wake her up.
He carefully examined her from head to toe and noticed she was wearing a strange Night Cloak. Her hair and clothes were disheveled, but her delicate little face looked much cleaner, as if it had just been wiped with a damp towel, creating a stark contrast.
All the injuries were concentrated on her wrists and ankles, with obvious bruises around the joints.
What happened? Night Star felt a surge of doubt in his heart. Looking at the bruises on her wrists, he felt a wave of pity. Had she been imprisoned?
From the looks of it, she must have suffered quite a bit these past few days.
"I'm so sorry for what you've been through," he said gently, reaching out to lightly stroke her cheek.
The woman lying on the bed suddenly frowned, her eyes trembling slightly.
After a moment, she opened her eyes, revealing a pair of bright black eyes. Her complexion was tender, with a hint of rosy color that made her look much more spirited. She pouted and looked at him with an expression of complaint.
He was taken aback, the first words out of his mouth were, "You're awake?"
"Hmph." She turned her head away stubbornly, ignoring him, looking like a wronged little wife.
"What's wrong? Tell me where you went? Who did this to you?"
Night Star couldn't help but express his concern, gently lifting her wrist to examine the bruise, feeling heartbroken as he kissed it softly.
"It's all your fault!" she exclaimed angrily.
"My fault?" Night Star's eyes widened in confusion.
"Why didn't you come find me?" she said sulkily. Although she understood that this had nothing to do with him, she couldn't help but complain.
It had been so many days; she didn't know how long she had been locked up. In that endless darkness, all she hoped for each day was that he would come to rescue her.
He could find her and pull her out of that boundless terrifying darkness, but in the end, all she received was silence and solitude.
"I'm sorry, it's all my fault. Who locked you up? How could you just disappear like that? Tell me, I'll go find that person and settle the score!" Night Star said fiercely, yet his grip remained gentle.
He was afraid that he might accidentally hurt her.
Mo Xier coldly uttered a few words: "Old Madam."
"What?" Night Star widened his eyes in disbelief and repeated, "Who did you say?"
"Old Madam," Mo Xier repeated, her gaze still carrying a faint indifference, as if she were contemplating something unknown.
"How could this be? Why would Old Madam want to capture you?" Night Star asked again, a fog of confusion rising from his heart. No matter how he thought about it, he couldn't understand why Old Madam would imprison her and bind her like this. It made no sense!
"Because I learned her secret," Mo Xier said coldly. After a moment's thought, she changed her words, "To be precise, it's a huge secret about your Night Family."
"What secret?" Night Star asked.
"About your origins," Mo Xier replied coldly. After saying this, she suddenly sat up, wanting to lean closer to Night Star.
He tenderly embraced her, pulling her up from the bed. Seemingly understanding her intention, he deliberately held her in his arms, allowing her small head to rest comfortably on his shoulder. "Go ahead and tell me; my courtyard is surrounded by Shadow Guards."
Mo Xier nodded and softly said, "I suspect the Current Emperor has an unspeakable connection with the Night Family!"
Her voice was very soft, but in Night Star's heart, it felt as heavy as a stone. For these past days, this question had been circling around him repeatedly. It seemed that those people had an unspoken agreement to throw all these secrets at him at once.
He smiled bitterly and said heavily, "Is the Emperor really his son? Is the bloodline of the Night Family the current Sovereign?"
"How do you know?" Mo Xier's eyes widened as she stared at the man before her. His nose was high and straight, his lips slightly thin, and his eyes sparkled like stars but held a cold glimmer. Yet when he looked at her, he remained gentle.
"I already know," he said with a bitter smile, his lips twisting into an unappealing curve.
"You know?" Mo Xier's eyes widened in surprise. No wonder she managed to escape today; was it because Old Madam felt that spreading this secret to Night Star was no longer important? "How could you possibly know?"
"It’s hard to explain. Can you tell me why you were locked up by Old Madam?" Night Star gently stroked her forehead with his rough palm and asked in a low voice.
"That night, I sneaked into the ancestral hall and was unexpectedly discovered by Old Madam. They used an incense that made me feel completely weak, and then I was captured. It was truly despicable," she recalled, feeling a surge of anger and helplessness at the humiliation she endured. After all, her skills were well-known; in a fight, they certainly couldn't defeat her. "I don't know why I had such bad luck. I found something strange inside the ancestral hall, and Old Madam locked me in a secret room."
"A secret room? How could there be a secret room in the ancestral hall?" Night Star was shocked, looking at the woman before him in disbelief. She pouted her cherry lips, her skin fair, appearing delicate and cute.
Her hair was slightly dirty, and her clothes were torn with several holes, but this did not diminish her beauty at all.
"There is one. It's very large and has a bizarre layout. I was locked in there," she said with frustration, recalling that place filled her with a sense of panic. It was too dark; it almost twisted her outlook on life.
"No wonder I couldn't find you no matter how hard I searched. I nearly turned the entire capital upside down. If I couldn't find you soon, I would have gone outside the city to look for you," Night Star said worriedly, holding the woman tightly, afraid he might lose her again.
After a moment, he suddenly asked, "What did you discover?"
"No wonder Old Madam never let you enter the ancestral hall since you were little. Now I understand why," Mo Xier said excitedly, eager to share everything she knew with Night Star.
