Liu Heping's surgical knife hesitated noticeably, and Li Nan understood the implication. The position on the chest was too dangerous, so if he wasn't very confident, it would be difficult to make the incision.
If he were in the actual operating room of Jiangbei Hospital at this moment, Liu Heping would definitely not hesitate like this. Such a surgery was not a small task for him; he should be quite familiar with it. However, the current situation was that Liu Heping underestimated Liu Ziming's injuries. If there was already organ failure in his chest cavity, then making this incision could very well cost him his life.
Liu Heping asked, "What are the vital signs?"
Due to the lack of appropriate medical equipment, Li Nan could only rely on superficial observations to assess, "Pulse is low, respiratory rate is decreasing, and the patient's pupils are dilated with no corneal reflex!"
Liu Heping pressed his hands against Liu Ziming's chest and performed a set of heart compressions. "Has the situation improved?"
"Not yet!" Li Nan said bleakly.
In an environment of minus fifteen degrees, it could already serve as an anesthetic for the patient. In low temperatures, human metabolism and various vital signs decrease. If this were at normal temperature, Liu Ziming's symptoms would be nearly that of a dead person; however, Liu Heping still had a chance.
Low-temperature operations posed a challenge for doctors but were a blessing for patients.
Liu Ziming was already in a state of unconsciousness, completely unaware, while Zhang Li and others nearby watched with great concern.
"Boss, are you sure letting Liu Heping treat him like this will work?" Li Xiaofan gritted his teeth, unable to bear watching his brother suffer.
Zhang Li whispered, "There's no other way. Li Nan is also a doctor; even if Liu Heping has ulterior motives, he will notice it first!"
Li Xiaofan was speechless and then looked up at the operating table where blood was gradually flowing down and slowly congealing into clots, filling the gaps in the Corpse Storage Cabinet.
On the operating table, Liu Ziming's condition had not improved, and Liu Heping said, "In that case, we can only go all out!"
Li Nan understood Liu Heping's intention; this was a risky continuation of the surgery, completely dependent on fate. If Liu Ziming's willpower was strong, there might still be a chance of survival; however, if anything went wrong, he would immediately die on the operating table.
Li Nan was aware of the risks involved in such a surgery, so he could only let Liu Heping take the risk.
Liu Heping held the knife in his right hand and felt around Liu Ziming's chest for a moment before avoiding the heart and making the incision. With a "sizzle," the blade pierced beneath the skin, and a stream of blood gushed out. As the blood flowed, the blade moved around, already cutting open most of the skin.
The entire Room 4 was surprisingly quiet, and a layer of fine sweat had already formed on Liu Heping's forehead.
Li Nan had no towel in hand, so he could only watch. Suddenly, Li Nan felt a wave of unease wash over him.
"Li Nan, the saline solution has run out; hurry and change it!"
Li Nan was slightly dazed but still bent down to replace the saline solution. Just then, several figures approached Room 4.
Li Nan tore open the vacuum packaging of the saline bottle, then stood up to remove the used bottle and replace it with a new one. After a series of actions, Li Nan suddenly noticed several shadows in his field of vision.
"What’s going on?" Li Nan felt dizzy, and his vision began to blur.
Zhang Li thought it was due to temporarily reduced oxygen in his brain from squatting too long, so he moved around a bit to alleviate his symptoms but felt even more disoriented.
Li Nan swayed unsteadily, nearly falling over, while Liu Heping remained bent over performing surgery and did not notice Li Nan's unusual state.
Zhang Li and others observed clearly and assumed that Li Nan was still suffering from a high fever and unable to handle such intensive work. He shouted from below, "Li Nan seems to be in bad shape too; someone hurry up and help him down!"
Li Xiaofan took the initiative and rushed up to the operating table, while Li Nan groggily shouted, "Not good! There are zombies! There are zombies behind you!"
Li Xiaofan said with a bitter smile: “It's not just that the fever hasn't subsided; I'm also hallucinating!”
Li Nan shouted repeatedly and yelled at Li Xiaofan, “Hurry up and run! There really is a Zombie behind you!”
Li Xiaofan turned back, half in disbelief, and his previously playful expression froze. “Boss, there really is a Zombie behind you!”
Zhang Li was stunned and turned his head to see a greedy face glaring at him.
“How could this happen?” Zhang Li cursed inwardly and looked around, discovering that there was not just one Zombie behind them.
Zhang Li drew the Triangular Bayonet from his waist without hesitation and thrust it into the Zombie's abdomen.
The Zombie behind Zhang Li showed no reaction; its hands, which were originally reaching out to scratch, moved swiftly towards Zhang Li.
Zhang Li instinctively took a step back, then kicked out with a low blow while shouting, “Brothers, it's bad! A Zombie has broken in!”
The Wolf Fang Soldiers noticed Zhang Li's unusual behavior and all turned to look, astonished.
In an instant, bullets flew, bayonets swung wildly, and the entire area around Gate 4 descended into chaos.
Standing on the operating table, Li Xiaofan was so shocked he could hardly move, while Li Nan collapsed to the ground.
Liu Heping was still bent over, performing surgery on Liu Ziming as if completely unaffected.
After a moment of shock, Li Xiaofan regained his composure and wanted to raise his Submachine Gun to help. However, he realized that Li Nan was now completely unconscious. If he rushed out, Li Nan would surely be in danger. Most importantly, with the Zombies attacking and Doctor Liu Heping still in the critical phase of surgery, he could not be disturbed. So, after a brief hesitation, Li Xiaofan stood firm, holding his Submachine Gun at the ready to guard the operating table.
Zhang Li grappled with a Zombie, but the creature's movements seemed sluggish, as if it were wearing an oversized Teletubby costume. Suddenly, Zhang Li thrust his weapon into the Zombie's neck and twisted with force. With a crunch, a head rolled to the ground.
Zhang Li carefully observed the entire area behind Door 4 and discovered that there were over a dozen Zombies that had quietly crept in, which was quite surprising.
With a sweeping motion of his Bayonet, he moved closer to Han Guang. "Watch out, buddy!" he warned before delivering a powerful kick that sent one Zombie flying.
"Thanks!" Han Guang replied with a grin.
Meanwhile, Haizi transformed his Submachine Gun into a makeshift hammer, opting to smash the Zombies' heads instead of shooting them, hitting each one accurately.
Although things were manageable for Zhang Li and his group, the situation was not as fortunate for several other Wolf Fang Soldiers. Due to the suddenness of the attack, three of them were bitten by Zombies when they turned around, and they were quickly overwhelmed and lost their breath.
Furious, Zhang Li turned back to fight off the Zombies. Their slow speed made it easy for him; within two minutes, all the Zombies were knocked down.
Everyone was panting heavily, exchanging wide-eyed glances filled with fear. Why had Zombies appeared in Underground Level Two? And how had they managed to sneak in so quietly?
These two questions left Zhang Li perplexed. Meanwhile, the situation on the operating table was also unexpected; Li Nan had collapsed on the ground while Liu Heping continued to wield his scalpel without pause.
