Hearing Zhang Li's words, Li Nan was momentarily taken aback, "How is that possible?"
"When we reached the tenth floor, we couldn't believe it either, but it is the truth, whether you and I want to believe it or not!" Zhang Li said, lowering his head and speaking each word carefully.
Li Nan had countless speculations about the current situation. It could be that the tenth floor was plagued by zombies, or perhaps Zhang Li and the others had suffered significant losses. In any case, he had to dismiss his previous judgments. However, when he arrived at the Hot Water Room and saw everyone, he was still taken aback because he never expected such a situation to arise.
On the tenth floor, nothing had happened during his journey; there were no signs of struggle, no zombies appeared, and he unexpectedly found Zhang Li and the others in the Hot Water Room. Everything had gone too smoothly. But when Li Nan understood the situation here, a cloud of worry crossed his face.
Where had the remaining ninety or so zombies gone?
It was now certain that there were no zombies below the tenth floor, or rather, any scattered zombies had already been dealt with. So now, the problem facing Zhang Li and the others was that their enemies had vanished.
An unprecedented sense of pressure washed over him as Li Nan stood by the doorframe and noticed a bloody handprint. "Who left this? When I saw it from outside, I thought..."
Li Nan confirmed that none of Zhang Li's group were injured, but this bloody handprint was strange!
Zhang Li shook his head, "We don't know about this handprint either; it was already here when we came in!"
Li Nan leaned closer to the door panel and lightly touched the bloodstain, discovering that it had dried.
The dark red blood on the door panel suggested it had been exposed to air for at least two or three hours. Based on this timing, it couldn't have been left by Zhang Li and his group. Moreover, judging by the bloodstain, it couldn't have come from a zombie either.
Seeing Li Nan's doubts, Han Guang spoke up: "This handprint likely belongs to someone who hid in the Hot Water Room after being attacked by zombies."
Li Nan nodded. "The person who left this handprint must have already been infected by a zombie. However, this does indicate some issues!"
Han Guang asked, "What does this handprint indicate?"
Li Nan looked at the door panel and slowly said: "Zombies once attacked the tenth floor, and there were zombies present here before. But why are they all gone now? What could have attracted over ninety zombies away? Where are they hiding now?"
Li Nan did not explain further but instead posed three questions.
Zhang Li and the others were already confused, unable to grasp what Li Nan was hinting at. However, Han Guang spoke up, "Are you saying someone is up to no good?"
Li Nan nodded, tacitly agreeing.
At this moment, Zhang Li frowned and said, "Who would be causing trouble? Are there any other living people in Jiangbei Hospital?"
Li Nan noncommittally replied, "There are definitely survivors; they are just hiding to avoid the Zombies. It won't be easy to find them, but among these people, there is one who is our old friend!"
Zhang Li stared at the floor and suddenly realized, "You mean Liu Heping from the Underground Morgue!"
Han Guang's expression was thoughtful, as if he had already guessed it.
Li Nan did not continue explaining but instead asked Zhang Li, "What exactly happened on the Ninth Floor?"
Zhang Li paused for a moment and began to speak, "There were six of us. When we reached the Ninth Floor, we didn't see any signs of Zombies. After searching around, we found no danger, so we thought the Ninth Floor was safe. When we finally found the laboratory, the Liquid Nitrogen Tank was heavy and required manpower to move it, so I didn't assign a guard at the door. Just as we were about to leave after everything was packed up, we discovered that over thirty Zombies had already occupied the area outside the laboratory. It was a complete deadlock!"
"How did you manage to escape unharmed?" Li Nan seemed very interested in this matter.
Zhang Li simply said, "Using Liquid Nitrogen!"
In fact, when they were in the laboratory on the Ninth Floor, Zhang Li and the other six sensed something was off outside and began to devise a plan. Unfortunately, their ammunition was severely lacking, making a direct confrontation nearly impossible.
Zhang Li weighed his Bayonet in hand and said to Li Xiaofan and the others, "The Zombies have surrounded us outside. If we don't rush out now, we might not get another chance!"
Li Xiaofan and the others were also troubled; rushing out in this situation would be like walking into death. However, it seemed they had no other choice since the Zombies outside were already banging on the door. Within a minute, the laboratory's main door would be breached. The question now was whether to take the initiative and charge out or wait passively for defense; the difference was becoming increasingly clear.
Just as Zhang Li acted impulsively, Han Guang grabbed his shoulder and said, "Captain Zhang, rushing out like this will surely lead to being surrounded by Zombies. Whether we can escape is still a question, but losses are guaranteed. We need to think this through!"
Zhang Li was taken aback. "Do you have a plan?"
Han Guang didn't respond verbally; instead, he focused his gaze on the Liquid Nitrogen Tank behind them. In that moment, Zhang Li seemed to understand Han Guang's idea.
The principle of Liquid Nitrogen is simple: air is composed of about eighty percent nitrogen, which is abundant and widely used. By using high-pressure equipment to treat it under high pressure, nitrogen can be liquefied for storage and transport. The process of nitrogen liquefaction releases heat, while the vaporization of Liquid Nitrogen absorbs heat.
When Liquid Nitrogen is released from a high-pressure environment, it vaporizes into nitrogen gas, absorbing an astonishing amount of heat in the process. This means that releasing Liquid Nitrogen will have a significant freezing effect.
Zhang Li and Han Guang carried a Liquid Nitrogen Tank, one in front and one behind. As the laboratory door swung wide open, Zhang Li quickly turned the valve on the tank, and a cloud of white gas erupted forcefully.
Zhang Li felt his hands holding the tank go numb from the cold, while the Zombies hit by the white gas became almost immobile, like wooden figures.
It seemed that low temperatures could indeed restrict Zombie movements. Previously, in the Second Morgue, those Zombies that had ambushed Zhang Li and his group from behind had not caused any devastating damage due to their clumsy movements.
The subsequent situation saw Zhang Li and his team using the Liquid Nitrogen Tank to easily defeat small Zombies. However, since the Liquid Nitrogen Tank was quite heavy, it wasn't very agile, allowing some Zombies to take advantage and attack. As a result, Li Xiaofan and others could only retaliate with their Submachine Guns, which is why Li Nan heard several gunshots from the eighth floor.
