Li Nan heard about the methods used by Zhang Li and others, and he couldn't help but feel despair. Being trapped in such a perilous situation truly required extreme measures; otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to escape from the Underground Morgue alive.
Dealing with the more than thirty Zombies outside the laboratory only cost a Liquid Nitrogen Tank, which was quite economical.
Li Nan had been paying attention to the details in Zhang Li's account, so when he noticed a problem, he asked, "Are you sure there were no Zombies around before entering the laboratory?"
Zhang Li nodded, "I checked both sides thoroughly; there are definitely no Zombies!"
Now Li Nan hesitated. Logically speaking, it was clear that someone was behind the crisis on the Ninth Floor, but how did that person manage to lure the Zombies to the Ninth Floor?
If there were Zombies on the tenth floor before, where did they go now? Could it be that the Zombies currently on the Ninth Floor were originally from the tenth floor?
Li Nan voiced his doubts, and Zhang Li and the others also found it puzzling. Clearly, the current situation made no sense!
Han Guang also moved closer to the door panel, dipped his finger in some saliva, smeared it on a blood handprint, and then brought it to his nose to sniff.
Li Nan found this unbelievable and asked, "Did you find anything?"
Han Guang shook his head. "No clues. However, based on my years of experience in criminal investigation, this bloodstain seems problematic!"
"What kind of problem?" Li Nan asked eagerly.
"I can't pinpoint exactly what it is; I just feel that this handprint on the door is particularly eerie. Normally, if an injured person rushed into a building in a panic, it wouldn't be surprising to leave some bloodstains. But this handprint is too perfect; it's as if an entire palm was pressed against it. In a state of panic, a person would only be looking for something to grab onto, so under those circumstances, they wouldn't leave such a complete handprint—maybe just half of one. Also, aside from this handprint on the door, there are no other bloodstains anywhere else; this defies logic. That's why I feel something is off here!" Han Guang explained methodically and logically, and Li Nan also sensed the strangeness of the situation.
The laboratory on the Ninth Floor had been attacked while the tenth floor was empty. If someone was indeed behind this, what would their next move be?
Connecting all the events together made Li Nan feel a chill run down his back. If the instigator was truly Liu Heping, then his ultimate target might very well be Li Nan himself!
Liu Heping had conducted many experiments in the Underground Morgue; he wanted to control the Zombies but always failed because logically speaking, it was fundamentally impossible. Zombies are infected humans; they are neither human nor any biological entity from nature and cannot be controlled. Yet Liu Heping remained undeterred and ultimately tried to use Li Nan for an experiment but failed once again!
Liu Heping's failure is actually Li Nan's success. It is precisely because of Liu Heping's actions that Li Nan has become what he is now.
When Han Guang noticed something unusual about Li Nan, he realized that the young man had thought of something. Just as he was about to ask, he noticed something strange happening to Li Nan as well.
Han Guang looked at Li Nan's back. Since Li Nan had turned his coat into a small bundle, he was left with only a tattered shirt. To Han Guang's surprise, the wound on Li Nan's back seemed to have disappeared.
Han Guang took off his coat and draped it over Li Nan's shoulders. Li Nan was unaware of Han Guang's intentions and wanted to refuse, but suddenly found it difficult to reject the coat as it was firmly placed on him.
Han Guang showed no expression, simply patted his own clothes and said, "There is something suspicious going on; we must be cautious!"
This statement seemed directed at everyone, but Li Nan felt it was a reminder specifically for him.
Zhang Li's eyes and brows were furrowed together; the situation seemed increasingly uncontrollable. If it weren't for Li Nan's conspiracy theories, the fact that all the Zombies on the tenth floor had vanished would seem strange but could also be a good thing. Without Zombies around, perhaps they could feel a bit more at ease.
But could they really feel at ease? The hidden enemies lurking in the shadows and the potential resurgence of a Zombie wave made Zhang Li and the others shudder.
"Do you have any thoughts?" Han Guang asked Li Nan. After a moment of hesitation, Li Nan replied, "There’s something odd about the Hot Water Room; we shouldn't stay here for long. It's better to leave!"
Since Han Guang had already mentioned the peculiar blood handprint, Zhang Li and the others had no reason not to be on guard. Staying here temporarily was not a wise decision.
Li Xiaofan asked Zhang Li, "Should we take the Liquid Nitrogen Tank with us?"
"Yes, definitely! This thing can save lives; we must take it!" Zhang Li had grown fond of Liquid Nitrogen after witnessing its power outside the laboratory.
Li Nan held a bundle made from a coat that seemed to be stuffed with something. Haizi asked curiously, "What’s inside that bundle?"
Li Nan smiled and said, "It's also something that can save lives! It's not much different from the Liquid Nitrogen Tank on your shoulders!"
Haizi shook his head in confusion and thought to himself, "What could be better than Liquid Nitrogen? It wouldn't be a nuclear warhead, would it?"
The seven gentlemen all stood up, wanting to leave the Hot Water Room. Suddenly, the hot water faucet behind them began to leak uncontrollably, starting small and then gushing out water, which was steaming hot.
The structure of the Hot Water Room resembled an old-fashioned refrigerator's Water Heater, a large unit connected to a heat-resistant Plastic Water Pipe. Normally, it was controlled with a card, but now it malfunctioned and was spewing water on its own.
Zhang Li glanced back; the flow of water was significant, but such a minor leak did not capture his attention. He shouted, "Don't worry about it, let's find another place to hide!"
Li Nan turned around and saw the rushing hot water, steam rising like clouds in a celestial realm.
Suddenly, a thought struck Li Nan, and he exclaimed, "Wait, that water is not right! Quickly turn it off!"
Haizi quickly walked over to the Water Heater. There were several buttons on top, but none responded. Li Nan, familiar with this Water Heater, shouted, "There's a Plastic Water Pipe behind it with a Valve; turning it off will stop the water!"
Haizi maneuvered around the flowing hot water and felt behind the Water Heater. He indeed found the Valve but couldn't turn it despite his efforts.
"This Water Heater seems uncontrollable!" Haizi yelled to Li Nan. Li Nan felt a jolt of alarm and thought, "This is bad!"
Seeing Li Nan's strange reaction triggered Zhang Li's alertness. He quickly moved to the doorway of the Hot Water Room and peeked out, scanning left and right.
