There was something suspicious, absolutely suspicious. As Li Nan and the others were about to exit the Hot Water Room, the Water Heater behind them unexpectedly began to leak water. Considering the environment they were in, Li Nan had reason to believe this was not just a simple coincidence.
Zhang Li rushed ahead and peered out of the Hot Water Room, but he did not notice anything unusual. However, the blood handprint on the door frame was quite strange.
The scarlet blood handprint seemed particularly striking, and under the rising white steam behind him, it gradually became blurred, as if the color had leaped out and mixed into the air, slowly dissipating.
Zhang Li touched his eyes but found nothing unusual; however, there was a bitter feeling in his gaze, reminiscent of chopping green onions.
The Water Heater continued to spew water, and Li Nan could not afford to dwell on that. He immediately shouted to everyone, "We need to get out quickly; this place is not safe!"
When Li Nan reached Zhang Li's position, he paused in surprise and then noticed the oddity of the blood handprint on the door.
Li Nan turned to look at the hot water flowing out, which had nearly soaked the floor. Comparing it with the blood handprint before him, he suddenly realized, "Quickly cover your mouth and nose; the air here is toxic!"
Haizi closely followed behind Li Nan. Although he did not fully understand what he meant, he tore off a piece of his clothing to cover his mouth and nose.
"What’s going on?" Haizi asked Li Nan in front of him.
Li Nan quickly stepped up to Zhang Li and noticed that Zhang Li's consciousness was somewhat hazy. He immediately spat on his hand and wiped it on Zhang Li's face.
Zhang Li's gaze was unfocused, but fortunately, after a moment of muddled confusion, it cleared up again; it seemed there was no major issue.
Zhang Li also sensed something was wrong and immediately asked, "What’s happening?"
Li Nan said to Haizi and Zhang Li, "That handprint is indeed strange. Its very existence defies logic. Its essence is mixed with a hallucinogenic substance similar to Lysergic Acid Diethylamide that can vaporize under high temperatures and induce hallucinations. Normally, this kind of drug should be illegal; how could it appear in Jiangbei Hospital?"
Zhang Li firmly asserted, "It must be Liu Heping's doing. He is your hospital's Outpatient Department Deputy Director; it has to be him!"
Initially, in Li Nan's considerations, the leaking hot water from the Hot Water Room was definitely intended to create a high-temperature environment to lure zombies and pose a threat to them. However, he did not expect that the other party did not intend to use zombies at all but merely wanted to take advantage of the Lysergic Acid Diethylamide hidden within that blood handprint!
The seven men, looking somewhat disheveled, covered their mouths and noses with their clothing. Although they appeared a bit awkward, it was effective; no further incidents occurred.
As they stepped outside, Li Nan expressed his doubts, "Dealing with Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is troublesome; it would be more straightforward to just use rat poison. What exactly does Liu Heping want?"
At that moment, Han Guang gently patted Li Nan on the back and said, "Maybe he discovered something. Living people are more useful to him than dead ones!"
Li Nan furrowed his brow as he recalled the strange occurrences happening to him. He could dismiss the Zombie infection, which was already alarming enough, but coupled with his sudden increase in strength, it felt like something out of X-Men.
Li Nan wanted to voice his thoughts, but Han Guang interrupted him, "Now is not the time for discussion. We need to leave quickly; delay could lead to chaos!"
Grinding his teeth, Li Nan lowered his head and moved forward. Zhang Li agreed and immediately stepped up without hesitation.
"Is the crisis really going to be resolved so easily?" Li Nan wondered. He believed Liu Heping's meticulous plotting would not end so simply; there must be more to come!
Li Nan took the lead, wary of Liu Heping. He had transformed into a conspiracy theorist; they were not facing mindless Walking Dead but a living person full of schemes, and human nature was always the most unpredictable element!
Upon exiting the Hot Water Room, they saw no one and encountered no Zombies. However, Li Nan remained cautious; being careful was still necessary!
At that moment, Li Nan and the others planned to head down to the first floor to regroup with Liu Ziming and Mo Xiaohui before making further plans. But just a few steps in, Li Nan noticed something unusual at the corner of the hallway!
Zhang Li was the most perceptive and immediately whispered to those around him, "There are footsteps ahead; something's going on!"
Li Xiaofan followed closely behind Zhang Li and drew his Submachine Gun. However, instead of aiming it, he treated it as a blunt weapon.
Zhang Li also pulled out his Bayonet and cautiously moved ahead of Li Nan, signaling that he would handle the situation.
In front of Zhang Li and the others, Li Nan still seemed somewhat inexperienced, so he could only step back.
Based on the footsteps coming from around the corner of the corridor, it seemed that the other party was not a living person, as the awkward gait was not something a normal human could produce. Moreover, Zhang Li and the others would not expect any Survivors to come rushing in under such circumstances.
What Zhang Li feared the most was that all the Zombies left in the hospital would attack them. Although they had a Liquid Nitrogen Tank for protection, they ultimately still had no chance of winning!
"Everything depends on human effort!" Zhang Li thought to himself, then listened intently as the footsteps slowly approached. From the sound alone, it seemed there was only one Zombie.
Taking the initiative, Zhang Li was not careless when dealing with enemies. Just as he made up his mind, a swift figure dashed out, brandishing a Bayonet and ready to strike!
As expected, there was indeed only one staggering Zombie around the corner. Without hesitation, Zhang Li lunged forward and swiftly decapitated the Zombie.
Seeing that there was nothing for him to do, Li Xiaofan sighed and said, "Is that it?"
Zhang Li also had doubts. If all of this was secretly arranged by Liu Heping, what did this single Zombie signify? Was it mocking them?
Li Nan and Han Guang had also gathered around. Upon seeing the decapitated Zombie, they were filled with suspicion. Meanwhile, Haizi, who had sharp eyes, quickly said to everyone, "Hey! Look! It seems like there's something on this Zombie's clothes!"
Hearing Haizi's words, Li Nan bent down to examine the corpse on the ground. Indeed, on the blood-stained clothes of the Zombie, there appeared to be some strange markings—seemingly… seemingly a line of text written on it.
