Zhang Li witnessed his comrade turn into a charred corpse, and at that moment, he was filled with rage!
"Damn it!" Zhang Li didn't care about Fire God Zhu Rong or any rampaging Zombie; anyone who harmed his brother would pay with their life!
He caught the three golf clubs thrown by Li Xiaofan in his final moments, swiftly tossing two of them aside, and shouted to Haizi behind him, "Quick, get the door open!"
With a golf club in hand, Zhang Li sprang up and swung it like a bat directly at the Zombie.
The Zombie was terrifying, engulfed in flames, its clothes burned away, leaving only a human silhouette. It crackled ominously as oil oozed from its skin, creating a horrifying sight.
Zhang Li gripped the club tightly and swung it in a pitching motion, striking the Zombie right on the head.
There was a loud "clang," but the Zombie seemed unaffected and immediately swung its flaming arms to grab Zhang Li.
"Oh no!" Zhang Li thought to himself, feeling the Zombie's incredible speed. In the blink of an eye, it was already close to his neck.
Without time to think further, Zhang Li leaned back and fell to the ground just as the Zombie lunged at him with a gurgling sound from its throat.
Zhang Li landed next to the charred body of Li Xiaofan. He grabbed Li Xiaofan's hand and shouted fiercely, "Those who kill my brother shall die!"
In extreme danger, one can unleash untold potential; this concept is abstract. However, at that moment, Zhang Li felt an endless surge of power. He was determined to take down this fiery Zombie and tear it apart!
Suddenly, Zhang Li performed a swift maneuver and sprang up from the ground. With both hands gripping the club, he struck down hard at the top of the Zombie's head.
Even a demonized stone monkey would likely not withstand this blow from Zhang Li!
In a flash, Zhang Li brought down his weapon with ferocity. Sure enough, the Zombie's skull caved in halfway. Just when Zhang Li thought he had succeeded, the Zombie suddenly tilted its head back and, in an instant, seized Zhang Li's club. With a flick of its wrist, it hurled Zhang Li against the wall.
With a loud crash, Zhang Li felt blood trickle from his mouth as he lay motionless on the ground.
Four Wolf Fang Soldiers were clearly watching from behind, all filled with rage and eager to rush forward to fight the Zombie. However, Han Guang shouted, "We cannot let Li Xiaofan's sacrifice for such a broken tool be in vain!"
Haizi gritted his teeth, extremely angry. "Do we even have a way out now? Even if we can open this secret door, what then? Are we supposed to jump off the rooftop?"
Han Guang replied helplessly, "What do you think? With fire behind us and danger ahead, and now this fiery Zombie appearing, do you really think we will die without a burial place? Li Xiaofan and Captain Zhang Li fought for that little bit of hope for all of us. Do you really want to give up now?"
Tears filled Haizi's eyes. "I don't want their sacrifice to be meaningless. You, Li Nan, and that woman were all dragged into this. Even if we soldiers die here, we must get you out!"
Han Guang's eyes grew misty. "We are all innocent people; those infected by Zombies are too. We can't blame society for our bad luck; the paths we take are our own choices!"
Haizi declared passionately, "If you manage to get out, remember my name. I am Gao Shenghai from Jiangbei City, living in the old city’s redevelopment area. I have an elderly mother. If you get the chance to see her, please tell her that Gao Shenghai is a fighting hero!"
As he spoke, Haizi raised a cue stick and struck it against the iron chain. With a loud clang, the chain broke.
Haizi shouted to Han Guang and Mo Xiaohui, "You two hurry out! I'll buy you some time!"
Han Guang turned to look at Haizi and saw the youthful determination on his slightly immature face. Without hesitation, he carried Li Nan on his back and pulled Mo Xiaohui along, whispering, "Thank you, brother!"
Haizi raised the cue stick and shouted to the other three Wolf Fang Soldiers, "We are soldiers; the more dangerous it gets, the more we need to charge forward!"
"For Captain Zhang Li! For Li Xiaofan!" the four shouted loudly as they charged ahead.
Zhang Li staggered against the wall and tightly grasped the leg of the fiery Zombie. "I won't let go! A Zombie is always a Zombie; you can never kill all of humanity!"
It was precisely because of Zhang Li's obstruction that Han Guang and others gained time to break through the door. However, just as sunlight streamed through the secret door, Zhang Li finally couldn't hold on any longer. He spat out blood and fell to the ground.
Haizi led the three Wolf Fang Soldiers as they saw two bodies lying on the ground, their anger boiling over. Using the only two cue sticks they had left, they organized a fierce counterattack with unwavering resolve.
Haizi wanted to hold on a little longer, but at the moment he fell to the ground, he realized how foolish his thoughts were. In front of Zombie, humanity was truly vulnerable!
What was the outside world like? Was it peaceful as before, or had Zombie already run rampant? In Haizi's last moments, how he wished to see his old mother just once! After five years in the military, he had transformed from an eighteen-year-old boy into a tough man, yet he never had the chance to see his mother again. This time, he finally had the opportunity to return to his hometown for a mission, but what awaited him was a road of no return!
"Alas..." Haizi slowly closed his eyes, buried alongside his Company Commander and his brothers in Jiangbei Hospital.
***************************
Han Guang carried Li Nan on his back, moving quickly, but he was distracted by Mo Xiaohui who needed help.
In the corridor, Mo Xiaohui had injured her ankle and knee, making it difficult for her to move. Han Guang could only carry Li Nan on his back while holding Mo Xiaohui in front of him, which was quite overwhelming!
Mo Xiaohui shouted in panic, "That monster is coming after us!"
It seemed that Haizi and his group had been completely wiped out. Han Guang felt a pang of sorrow and immediately said to Mo Xiaohui, "Can I entrust you with something?"
Mo Xiaohui was terrified and didn't even hear what Han Guang said.
Han Guang continued, "In this situation, none of us can escape. I will put you and Li Nan down and try to draw that Zombie's attention. You two hide behind that pipe!"
Before Mo Xiaohui could respond, Han Guang had already set them down. Just as he turned around, he suddenly realized that the flaming Zombie was right behind him.
Faced with this situation, Han Guang felt despair. The fire they had set was a desperate measure that had created this Zombie. She must have rushed into the flames and emerged not only unscathed but transformed into a moving source of fire. Due to the increased temperature, this Zombie's speed and strength were greatly enhanced—far beyond what a human could match!
In shock, Han Guang immediately threw his coat at the Zombie, then provocatively ran in another direction.
As soon as the coat touched the Zombie, it ignited instantly and within moments turned to ashes.
Han Guang's provocation was indeed effective; the fiery Zombie did not attack Mo Xiaohui and Li Nan, but instead chased after Han Guang.
Mo Xiaohui looked panicked, her chest rising and falling rapidly, as if she had not yet awakened from a nightmare, while Li Nan remained in a deep sleep like a dead pig.
Thinking of Han Guang's last instruction, Mo Xiaohui managed to calm herself slightly. "What should I do? What should I really do?"
Noticing a row of thick pipes not far away, Mo Xiaohui crawled over without hesitation. It was only halfway through that she remembered Li Nan.
With no other choice, Mo Xiaohui turned back, tugging at Li Nan's clothes and stumbling towards the pipe.
At this moment, Han Guang had already run towards the dark door. According to his plan, it was impossible to deal with the Zombie now; he had to lure it to a dangerous place and use its own strength against it.
The dark door was wide open, billowing smoke like a chimney, indicating that the fire had already spread.
The pursuing Zombie, swaying as it moved, had flames leaping up on its body, flickering in the wind like candlelight.
When Han Guang looked back, he realized he was at a disadvantage in speed; the Zombie was now just inches away from him.
In this situation, if he didn't manage to lure it into the dark door within a second, Han Guang would likely be reduced to ashes.
"This won't work! This plan won't work!" Han Guang's mind raced, and then he spotted a row of railings nearby.
"Let's take a gamble; hopefully I can lure it down!" With a serious expression, Han Guang jumped twice in succession over the railings and leaped down from the thirty-meter-high platform.
Sacrificing himself for the sake of saving Li Nan, Han Guang was determined. Just as he jumped down, the pursuing Zombie suddenly halted, staring at the plummeting Han Guang with an expressionless face!
It seemed that the high temperature not only enhanced the Zombie's speed and strength but also increased its intelligence, allowing it to see through Han Guang's plan!
At that moment, Han Guang adjusted his position, then let out a bitter laugh and directly fell into free fall.
On the other side, Mo Xiaohui, witnessing Han Guang's suicide, had her face frozen in shock. "Rather than being killed by a Zombie, jumping off might be a better choice!"
While Mo Xiaohui was lost in thought, the flaming Zombie had already turned back and lunged towards a series of pipes.
Mo Xiaohui stared intently at the Zombie and tightly held Li Nan in her arms. However, she no longer had the chance to jump, as her movements were restricted; now she could only wait for death!
The Zombie also stopped, looking at the woman and the man in her embrace.
At that moment, Mo Xiaohui realized that this Zombie was actually a woman, and from the charred features, she seemed particularly familiar.
All of the Zombie's skin had been burned away, leaving only exposed bones and flesh, which had turned black like charcoal.
Mo Xiaohui's mind was somewhat muddled, but she suddenly exclaimed in surprise, "I recognize you! You are Gao Xue, Li Nan's girlfriend!"
When she was in the hospital, Mo Xiaohui had never met Gao Xue in person. However, after reuniting with Li Nan, she had seen a photo of this woman in Li Nan's hands. At that time, Li Nan had expressed his feelings with deep emotion: "If none of this had happened... if there were no misunderstandings and no Zombies!"
Mo Xiaohui vividly remembered Li Nan's expression at that moment—a mix of hidden resentment beneath helplessness and sorrow after losing his beloved.
How envious Mo Xiaohui had been of the woman named Gao Xue back then! But now that she faced her, she felt a sense of relief; not every love story ends well.
Mo Xiaohui glanced at Li Nan in her arms and sorrowfully addressed the Zombie before her: "Do you recognize him? If you do, please spare him!"
The flames burned on, seemingly having drained the Zombie of its flesh and blood; yet it still stood firm before them, unable to make a choice regarding the situation.
Mo Xiaohui thought there might be hope and immediately explained, "There's nothing between us! If you don't believe me, you can kill me; just please let him live!"
In an instant, Mo Xiaohui thought that this Zombie still remembered the things from its past life, still remembered the man who loved her deeply, and whom she also loved deeply. But in that fleeting moment, Mo Xiaohui realized she was wrong.
The Zombie hesitated for a moment but still extended its two burning arms, lunging toward Mo Xiaohui and Li Nan.
Mo Xiaohui closed her eyes, seemingly resigned to this outcome. However, after a second, she felt no presence of death.
Surprised, Mo Xiaohui opened her eyes and saw the two arms reaching toward her had paused in mid-air, then slowly turned to ash and scattered on the ground.
Suddenly, a great fire erupted on the rooftop, and it seemed that the pipeline was used for transporting natural gas. Following that, several explosions were heard, followed by waves of explosive air spreading out.
The Zombie that had transformed from Gao Xue soared into the air, then disintegrated like a plane breaking apart, scattering in all directions. Meanwhile, Mo Xiaohui and Li Nan were not faring well either; a massive gust of wind sent them flying away.
In mid-air, Mo Xiaohui tightly embraced Li Nan, murmuring, "This ending isn't so bad; at least we can die together!"
Three seconds later, Mo Xiaohui and Li Nan landed on top of a Blue Lamborghini below. Beside it lay a half-charred head, with two hollow eye sockets staring directly at Mo Xiaohui and Li Nan.
"Woo woo woo..." The Blue Lamborghini kept honking incessantly!
