Li Nan was dragging Mo Xiaohui as they ran frantically. Fortunately, the sun had mostly set, and the temperature was not high, so the group of Zombies was not moving quickly and had not caught up with them. 0

In such a dire situation, Li Nan felt helpless and could only lower his head and flee. Mo Xiaohui's earlier words about fighting back made him smile bitterly. "It seems that courage can't just be instilled at will! Otherwise, it's no different from being foolish!" 0

Mo Xiaohui was already feeling pain in her ankle, but she did not mention it and continued to grit her teeth and persevere. She didn't want to show her weakness in front of Li Nan. 0

Running ahead, Li Nan felt the resistance behind him growing stronger. When he suddenly turned to look back, he noticed Mo Xiaohui's predicament. 0

Li Nan shook his head repeatedly. "I forgot your ankle is injured; let me carry you!" 0

Mo Xiaohui also shook her head. "If the Zombies catch up, you must not worry about me. I don't want to become a burden again and risk both of us getting caught!" 0

Glancing back, Li Nan saw that they had already created some distance from the group of Zombies. Without thinking twice, he roughly threw Mo Xiaohui over his shoulder and bitterly smiled, "If we are the last two people left in this apocalypse, do you think I would let the only woman die to those monsters?" 0

With her head resting on Li Nan's shoulder, Mo Xiaohui looked at the world in front of her and suddenly felt a sense of enlightenment. In this apocalypse, she considered herself lucky; at least there was a man willing to risk his life to protect her! 0

At that moment, tears streamed down Mo Xiaohui's face—not from earlier frantic sobbing or instinctive reactions but from genuine emotion. She had made up her mind; this man beneath her was someone she could absolutely rely on! 0

Li Nan did not notice Mo Xiaohui's unusual behavior and continued running. After about seven or eight minutes, he crossed a sidewalk and went through two alleys, having long exited the area around Jiangbei Hospital. 0

Thanks to their speed advantage, Li Nan easily shook off the Zombie Legion. However, he did not dare to let his guard down. After ducking into an alley, he looked around a few times to confirm that the Zombies were not pursuing them. 0

Mo Xiaohui was quiet on Li Nan's back like a little cat. Once he sensed that the danger had passed, he patted her on the backside. "There's no danger now; you can relax. But please don't cry out loudly in the future; I suspect those Zombies were attracted by your cries!" 0

Mo Xiaohui silently endured Li Nan's patting without saying a word. 0

Li Nan felt something was off. "You didn't faint from all the bumps along the way, did you?" 0

"Well, it's fine; silent women are the cutest. Once you wake up, you'll probably chatter non-stop—it's nice to have some peace!" Li Nan stopped his actions and turned out of the alley onto a street. 0

On the other side of the street was Beiyuan Square, the scene of last night's incident. Li Nan stepped out cautiously and found no Zombies. 0

He breathed a sigh of relief and continued walking. After another five or six minutes from Beiyuan Square, he would reach his residential area. 0

Now Li Nan firmly believed in the concept of an apocalypse. If he had any small hope before, it had now turned into despair. The current state of the apocalypse was extremely dire; if even armed military forces could be infected, it meant that ordinary citizens in Jiangbei City had almost no chance of escaping unscathed. 0

As visibility decreased, Li Nan quickened his pace. He didn't want to encounter any more accidents before getting home. 0

Just as Li Nan was secretly pleased that there were no Zombies on the road, a dozen Aunt Zombies suddenly burst out from the side of Beiyuan Square. Each of them was dressed in festive attire, likely still caught up in their joyful square dancing when they were attacked by the Zombies. 0

Li Nan frowned, "It's these people again. They wouldn't let anyone have peace when they were alive, and now they come to cause trouble as Zombies!" 0

Li Nan naturally felt apprehensive about the Zombie Legion, but he was confident in dealing with these dozen Aunt Zombies. 0

He tightened his grip on Mo Xiaohui and thought for a moment. It would be best not to confront the Zombies directly for now. Most importantly, he hadn't eaten or drunk anything since last night, and while carrying Mo Xiaohui, he realized he had little strength left. 0

"Forget it! Respect the elderly and care for the young; I won't hold it against you!" Li Nan stepped back and walked out, then rummaged through his bag to find several Li Nan bags, tossing them all in front of the Aunt Zombies. 0

The dozen elderly Aunt Zombies seemed to have no trouble moving; they pounced on the bags like wolves, fighting over what to eat. 0

At Jiangbei Hospital, Li Nan had prepared several bags of Li Nan in advance to gain an advantage against Liu Heping. However, he didn't expect Liu Heping to be even more ruthless, directly throwing Li Nan out of the ventilation duct, catching him off guard. 0

At that time, Li Nan had simply tied a bundle using Han Guang's coat and had kept it tightly secured. When he fell from Jiangbei Hospital, he didn't lose it. 0

Li Nan glanced at his bundle and casually tossed out five or six Li Nan bags to temporarily distract the dozen Zombies before changing direction. Now that it was dark, if any more Zombies appeared, he really wouldn't be able to handle it. 0

With a clatter of footsteps, Li Nan quickly made his way into his neighborhood. 0

After crossing several paths, Li Nan darted in front of a building and looked around to find a small convenience store downstairs. 0

Li Nan's eyes lit up. "First, let's solve the food problem! There probably aren't any living people left in this neighborhood; I should just take what I need myself!" 0

Li Nan initially wanted to check for any Zombies nearby but unexpectedly made a discovery. At this moment, he wouldn't pretend to be a gentleman. 0

Li Nan cautiously entered the convenience store. There was no one inside and no Zombies either; he relaxed a bit. Spotting a cardboard box in the corner made him feel even more at ease. 0

He reached out with one hand and began picking some food off the shelves to fill the cardboard box on the ground. 0

With a clatter reminiscent of falling into a treasure cave, Li Nan shoved ten packs of instant noodles, several bags of hanging noodles, and a few packets of pickled vegetables into the box. 0

Li Nan was so hungry that he felt he could eat a whole cow, so he just wanted to find something substantial to fill his stomach. 0

The shelves were mostly stocked with puffed snacks and various treats made with food coloring additives, none of which interested Li Nan, so he swept them all to the floor. 0

"There are a few vacuum-packed pig trotters," Li Nan thoughtlessly stuffed them into his treasure box. 0

Just as Li Nan was about to turn and leave, he caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye and discovered a treasure next to the Counter: “Lao Gan Ma, my favorite!” 0

Taking advantage of the situation, Li Nan had already cradled a box filled to the brim in his arms and was about to leave, but he was captivated by that bottle of Lao Gan Ma. 0

With no moral constraints left, Li Nan felt no qualms about stealing or robbing; in this apocalypse, there was no morality or law to speak of. 0

He reached out his right hand to grab the bottle of Lao Gan Ma, when suddenly, it seemed there was some movement beneath the Counter. 0

Li Nan quickly withdrew his arm and focused his gaze on what was behind the Counter, wary of a Zombie bursting out at any moment! 0

Three seconds later, there was no further sound or movement. At this point, Li Nan cautiously leaned forward. If it wasn't a Zombie, it could very well be a living person. He could be ruthless towards Zombies, but when it came to his own kind, Li Nan was still willing to lend a helping hand! 0

Beneath the Counter, there lay a woman who was trembling uncontrollably. 0

Seeing that the woman was wearing a red sweater, Li Nan recognized her. Although he didn't frequent the small convenience store downstairs often, the owner was particularly warm-hearted and would often chat with him when he returned from work. 0

He referred to the store owner as Sister Wang, and the woman on the ground was clearly the ever-smiling Sister Wang! 0

“Sister Wang, what happened to you?” It felt awkward for Li Nan to think that he had come to "rob" while she was still there, especially since she had always treated him well. 0

He tentatively called out, but there was no response from Sister Wang. However, he didn’t dwell on it; she lay face down on the ground without any visible injuries. Most importantly, she hadn’t attacked him but merely lay there convulsing. 0

Li Nan assumed that Sister Wang must have been startled and was experiencing something akin to an epileptic seizure. 0

After putting down the box tucked under his arm, he wanted to help Sister Wang. If such seizure symptoms were not effectively addressed during an episode, it could potentially be fatal. 0

Just as Li Nan prepared to assist her, Sister Wang’s convulsions suddenly stopped, and her body stiffened as if she had entered a state of apparent death. 0

Li Nan was anxious and immediately went to help Sister Wang perform a set of Heart resuscitation, hoping there might still be a chance to save her. 0

When Li Nan touched Sister Wang's skin, he suddenly felt a chill. "This body temperature shouldn't indicate a state of suspended animation; it clearly belongs to someone who has been dead for quite some time..." 0

Li Nan was startled, and in that instant, the stiff Sister Wang suddenly lifted her head, staring intently in Li Nan's direction. 0

The shock in his heart nearly caused Li Nan to fall to the ground. He saw that half of Sister Wang's face was missing, revealing ghastly white bones smeared with darkened flesh, looking like a skeleton emerging from hell—truly terrifying. 0

Just moments ago, Li Nan had determined through visual inspection that Sister Wang was unharmed. It seemed he had guessed wrong; a single leaf could obscure the view, and his subjective thoughts had clouded his judgment. How could someone lying silently on the ground possibly be fine? 0

Li Nan was horrified, and Sister Wang opened her mouth wide, lunging toward him. 0

However, Sister Wang's movements were not smooth; it took her several seconds just to rise. During those seconds, Li Nan had already grabbed a glass ashtray from the counter and hurled it at her. 0

The palm-sized ashtray struck Sister Wang's head squarely, and Li Nan showed no mercy. "While you're weak, I'll take your life!" 0

With just an ashtray, Li Nan smashed Sister Wang's head into a pulp. After confirming that she was truly dead, he reluctantly picked up a bottle of Lao Gan Ma from the counter, grabbed a cardboard box, and left swiftly. 0
