After a massacre, dozens of Zombie corpses lay in the doorway and the corridor outside, a scene of utter devastation. 0

Mo Xiaohui stood in front of Li Nan, gazing at the Zombie that had just fallen at her hands, her expression resolute as she said, "What do we do now? Should we clean them up?" 0

Having stained her hands with blood, Mo Xiaohui appeared unusually calm, as if her earlier strike was not that of a novice but rather the result of many trials and experiences that had forged her resilience. 0

Li Nan replied, "We definitely need to clear these things out, but we can't stay here any longer. This place isn't safe!" 0

Mo Xiaohui turned to see the door panel that had shattered into pieces; it was clear that this house could no longer serve as a refuge for her and Li Nan. 0

At that moment, the previously agitated parrot landed on Mo Xiaohui's shoulder and squawked, "Safe! Safe!" 0

Li Nan had underestimated this parrot before; it not only mimicked sounds but also served as an early warning system for Zombies, so Mo Xiaohui's insistence made sense. 0

Li Nan was intrigued by the parrot, but the focus was not on that right now. He bent down to lift the fallen Zombie corpse and moved toward the window. 0

Mo Xiaohui understood Li Nan's intention and followed suit, though her smaller stature made it somewhat difficult for her. 0

They managed to clear away fifteen Zombie corpses, all thrown out through the window while the rain continued to pour outside. 0

After finishing this task, Li Nan checked the time; it was already one in the morning. 0

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Li Nan turned to Mo Xiaohui and said, "We can't stay here tonight. Let's go to the eighth floor—the place we scavenged yesterday. It's safer there now!" 0

Mo Xiaohui nodded. For now, they didn't need to take any supplies with them; they just needed to get upstairs and spend the night. 0

Mo Xiaohui washed the grime off her face and then followed Li Nan upstairs. 0

The hallway was equipped with motion-sensor lights. Originally a dark place, it gradually illuminated an area as Li Nan moved forward. They climbed the stairs and soon reached the eighth floor. 0

Li Nan held a screwdriver in his hand, first turning on the living room chandelier, which then illuminated the space brightly. 0

Li Nan was quite familiar with the layout of the house. After checking around and confirming that no zombies had entered, he let out a slight sigh of relief and called out to Mo Xiaohui outside, "You can come in now!" 0

Mo Xiaohui understood why Li Nan was being so cautious, and after experiencing the events of the night, she had also become stronger. To survive in this apocalypse, one had to be ten times more careful than usual! 0

Since the outer door had been destroyed by Li Nan during the day, they had no real means of securing the place. After inviting Mo Xiaohui in, Li Nan moved the sofa in the living room to block the doorway. 0

The house was spacious with many rooms, so Mo Xiaohui chose to enter the room belonging to the owner's daughter. Upon stepping inside, a warm atmosphere enveloped her, making her feel somewhat intoxicated. 0

Having been abruptly awakened by a zombie attack while she was deep in sleep, if it weren't for that parrot alerting them, they might not have noticed until it was too late when the zombies broke in. 0

After a thrilling ordeal, they finally found some peace. Mo Xiaohui felt weary; she was utterly exhausted and it was already quite late. A wave of drowsiness washed over her as she collapsed onto the soft and cozy bed. 0

While lying on the bed, Mo Xiaohui had a nightmare. She dreamt that a horde of clawing zombies invaded their home, leading to a bloody massacre where both she and Li Nan perished among countless corpses. 0

After breaking into a cold sweat, Mo Xiaohui suddenly woke up from her bed, with the sound of rain pattering outside. 0

She touched her chest and murmured, "Thank goodness it was just a dream!" 0

As her vision adjusted and she looked around, Mo Xiaohui realized that everything felt somewhat unfamiliar—a large bed, an exquisite vanity table, and warmly decorated surroundings; none of it resembled Li Nan's small room. 0

Lost in thought, Mo Xiaohui became dazed for about thirty seconds before gradually coming to her senses and rushing out. 0

A person lay on the sofa blocking the door, sitting upright with their gaze fixed on the area outside. 0

Faint light streamed in from outside while the sound of rain danced in her ears, creating an atmosphere that suggested it was a lazy morning. If there were no zombies and no apocalypse, such a scene would indeed bring joy. 0

However, Li Nan showed no signs of happiness. Seeing that Mo Xiaohui had gotten up, he said to her, "You're awake. Let's tidy up and head back to the fifth floor to retrieve some supplies!" 0

Mo Xiaohui replied blankly, "Okay!" 0

Mo Xiaohui didn't know if Li Nan had spent the night on the sofa, but his darkening circles under his eyes indirectly indicated the problem. It seemed their situation had become dire, and Li Nan had to remain vigilant against the Zombies! 0

They went down from the eighth floor at seven in the morning, making several trips back and forth for an hour, finally moving everything usable from the fifth floor up. Li Nan let out a sigh of relief, saying, "Let's eat first!" 0

In the kitchen of the new house, Mo Xiaohui found a rice cooker and attempted to cook some rice. Then, using the gas stove, she tried to stir-fry the marinated meat that Li Nan had prepared. Although it had been washed several times beforehand, the salty meat still felt harsh on the throat when eaten. 0

Being able to have a warm meal made Li Nan very grateful. Although the meat was quite salty, it still had a good texture when chewed. 0

Seeing that Li Nan looked somewhat fatigued at the dining table, Mo Xiaohui said to him, "After we finish eating, you should go take a nap. I can handle this kind of work; I definitely won't let a Zombie in!" 0

Li Nan shook his head and then seriously asked Mo Xiaohui, "I know those Zombies; they are my neighbors living right here. Last night I wasn't under lockdown; I just couldn't sleep. It feels torturous to think about killing people I know personally; it's a mental hurdle I can't get over!" 0

Mo Xiaohui put down her chopsticks. "Last night you taught me to face things bravely. How come now you're the real coward? They are already dead; they are different beings, Zombies. They eat people; they are the creators of this apocalypse. If we don't kill them, our fate will be to end up as nothing but bones or become like them! So you shouldn't feel any psychological burden! To survive, we must kill! They are just a bunch of Zombies!" 0

Li Nan looked at her in confusion. "When did you become a psychologist?" 0

Mo Xiaohui chuckled softly. "You're a man; your shoulders bear the weight of the world. I'm a woman; I can only stand by your side and support you. There's really not much else I can do!" 0

Li Nan smiled playfully, "With you around, I won't go crazy!" Then he changed the subject, "For now, this is our home, so we need to tidy it up properly!" 0

Mo Xiaohui smiled and quickly got busy cleaning up—washing dishes and tidying up all at once. 0

Li Nan watched Mo Xiaohui's athletic figure and smiled knowingly. Last night felt like he had regained a life, so he dared not be careless anymore. In this apocalypse, he had to be more cautious because he was not alone; there was a woman he needed to take care of and also a parrot. 0

Li Nan stretched his arms and confirmed that his mental state was still okay. He then turned around to start reinforcing their new home. 0

The lock on the door had been damaged by Li Nan yesterday; now it could only be closed but not locked, significantly reducing its safety. Therefore, Li Nan needed to fix that door first to temporarily ensure the safety of their new home. 0

Li Nan was completely clueless about repairing doors, and he didn't have the key to this particular door. If he managed to fix it, how would he go out in the future? 0

Li Nan was scratching his head in frustration, but after being inspired by Mo Xiaohui, he came up with an idea. Instead of trying to fix the door, he thought it might be better to turn the situation around and find a way to make use of this anti-theft door that could no longer be locked. 0

Recalling what happened last night, Li Nan realized that the Zombies were not very agile. They could only push the door from behind but couldn't pull it from the front. This meant that as long as the door couldn't be pushed inward to prevent Zombies from entering, it would suffice. 0

With this in mind, Li Nan had a plan. He returned to his apartment on the fifth floor, dismantled his wooden bed, and took a wooden plank over two meters long and ten centimeters wide. He then searched for five or six iron nails of varying lengths and grabbed a hammer. He nailed the wooden plank onto the wall inside the door on the eighth floor, wedging it against the door frame so that the anti-theft door could only be pushed outward. Li Nan tested it and found it absolutely reliable. 0

While fixing the door, Li Nan also thought about how those Zombies had found their way upstairs last night. For now, he could set aside how they got in, but he needed to consider that carefully. 0

Seeing Li Nan busy with his work, Mo Xiaohui called out from behind, "Aren't we supposed to carry out the building sweep plan today?" 0

Li Nan replied firmly, "There's something more important than that!" 0

Mo Xiaohui expressed doubt, thinking, "Why is his brain always lagging behind?" 0

(As I wrote this, I realized I made a logical error; all doors can only rotate 180 degrees and cannot rotate 360 degrees at all. Therefore, all of the protagonist's considerations regarding that door were misguided. I apologize for this mistake; by the time I realized it, this chapter was already complete. If I were to rewrite it, there would be no update today, so I can only go along with this error. I hope for your understanding!) 0
