Mo Xiaohui rummaged through the kitchen but still couldn't find the alcohol that Li Nan wanted; however, she did discover a few bottles of cooking vinegar.
The more anxious she became, the more flustered she felt. Sweat trickled down her face, yet she found nothing useful.
Although Li Nan couldn't see her, he could hear her clearly. "Calm down, it's not time to panic yet. It's okay to take your time!"
Mo Xiaohui wiped the sweat from her face and glanced into the kitchen cabinet, where she spotted a bottle of yellow wine!
"Yellow wine should count as alcohol!" Mo Xiaohui said as she brought an unopened bottle of yellow wine to Li Nan.
Li Nan took the yellow wine and weighed it in his hand. "As long as it's alcohol, that's fine. Now go find me a basin or something similar, fill it with some clean water, add some soap, and bring it over!"
Mo Xiaohui acted as if she had received a military order and immediately dashed into the bathroom. After knocking over a few boxes, she returned with a small basin of Soap Water.
Li Nan held the basin in his hands, tested its weight, then dipped his hand in to check the amount of soap foam; it seemed appropriate. He then forcefully twisted off the cap of the yellow wine and poured the entire bottle into the basin.
Li Nan grinned, "The amount of your Soap Water is just right; this whole bottle of yellow wine is 1000 milliliters. Otherwise, it wouldn't be enough for dilution!"
Mo Xiaohui hesitated and asked, "Will this work?"
Li Nan shook his head. "This is the best solvent we can find for now. If this doesn't wash it away, then we're really out of options!"
Mo Xiaohui stirred the mixture in the basin with her hand. It felt somewhat like shower gel, but she was unsure how effective it would be.
Grease is primarily composed of aromatic hydrocarbons; when exposed to a weak or strong alkaline environment, it oxidizes into carbohydrates and dissolves in water. Regular shampoos and soaps are weakly alkaline, which is why they can wash away oil from hair and hands. Alcohol is a good solvent that can mix with any liquid, so using these two substances should help wash away the Black Blood in Li Nan's eyes.
Li Nan held open his eyelids while Mo Xiaohui scooped up the special Soap Water and splashed it onto Li Nan's eyes.
Li Nan's mouth slightly opened, and his expression was unnatural; clearly, the alcohol was quite irritating to his eyes. However, for now, he had to endure it.
Mo Xiaohui gently patted the mixture on Li Nan's face, allowing the Soap Water to flow through her fingers into his eyes, but there was no reaction from the Black Blood in his eye sockets.
After patting for over ten times without any improvement in Li Nan's eyes, Mo Xiaohui felt a bit discouraged. "Maybe we should try other methods?"
Li Nan smiled lightly. "Maybe these two eyes are just done for, but it's not a big deal; I won't die from this for now!"
In an instant, Mo Xiaohui could no longer suppress her emotions, and tears streamed down her face as she cried uncontrollably.
"I don't want you to become blind. I don't want that. If possible, I would rather be the one who gets hurt!"
Li Nan gently embraced Mo Xiaohui and pressed her face against his chest. "Don't say such hopeless things. Life and death are fated, and fortune and misfortune are in the hands of heaven. In the story, Sun Wukong lost his sight in the Alchemical Furnace but ended up gaining the ability of the Fire Eyes. So we can't say for sure whether this is a good thing or a bad thing!"
Hearing Mo Xiaohui's cries, Li Nan forced himself to stay strong. Although his eyes felt fiery and painful, he couldn't stop the tears from welling up inside.
Mo Xiaohui pushed away from Li Nan's chest and used her sleeve to wipe away the Black Blood that had trickled from the corner of Li Nan's eye, as well as a clear liquid that was about to burst forth.
The Black Blood from the Zombie was not difficult to remove from skin and clothing, but when it got into the eyes, it was as stubborn as chewing gum.
The reason behind this left Mo Xiaohui feeling dizzy and utterly confused.
Li Nan understood what Mo Xiaohui was thinking and explained, "It's probably not a matter of the eyes versus the skin, but rather an issue with the Black Blood!"
"How can there be a difference? It's all Zombie Black Blood!"
Li Nan gently rubbed his eyes, seemingly alleviating some of the burning sensation before saying, "That Zombie is different. It has been soaking in water for an entire day, causing its skin and muscle tissue to become waterlogged and swollen. So what splashed into my eyes can't simply be called Black Blood; it should be a mixture of Zombie Black Blood and various tissue fluids. The composition is quite complex. More importantly, it has mixed with the fat inside the Zombie's body, which means it's particularly sticky!"
After hearing Li Nan's explanation, Mo Xiaohui felt even more confused. "Is there really no other way?"
Li Nan appeared resigned to fate. "Under these conditions, this is all we can do for now; we have to leave it to fate!"
Mo Xiaohui's face fell in despair. "No! There are no suitable items here. I will go out to find something; I must heal your eyes!"
Li Nan shook his head. "No, you can't take that risk!"
Mo Xiaohui was determined and immediately turned to leave, but Li Nan grabbed her arm firmly. "There’s nothing that can treat this condition; everything would be in vain. Do you understand that this is a pointless risk?"
Mo Xiaohui shouted back, "I don’t care! All I know is that if you fall, I won't survive a single day in this apocalypse on my own! You can't have any problems! If you can't see, what am I supposed to do?"
Li Nan then pulled Mo Xiaohui into his embrace. "Everything will be alright. In this apocalypse, if you still believe in me, even if you lose your sight completely, there is still hope!"
Mo Xiaohui gradually calmed down, while Li Nan released her. "I have blocked the entrance downstairs, so no Zombies will break in for now. It is definitely safe inside the building. With so many residents here, there is still a food supply, so we can hold out for another month without any problem. Who knows what will happen after a month? Everything is still under control!"
Mo Xiaohui nodded and then leaned closer to Li Nan, gazing into his eyes with a tender touch.
Li Nan smiled, "I don't quite understand everything, but I believe everything will be alright!"
Mo Xiaohui suddenly remembered something. "No matter what that Black Blood is made of, it ultimately comes from the Zombies. Are you at risk of being infected?"
"When I was at Jiangbei Hospital, I was scratched on the back by a Zombie. By all rights, I should have turned into a Zombie by now!"
Hearing this, Mo Xiaohui recalled that they had escaped from Jiangbei Hospital two days ago, and Li Nan had not changed yet. Could something be wrong?
Noticing the change in Mo Xiaohui's expression, Li Nan lifted his shirt to reveal his back. "Look, the wound was right here!"
Mo Xiaohui turned to look and found that Li Nan's back was smooth, with no scars or marks at all. "How is that possible? There's nothing there!"
Li Nan then showed his left arm. "In the blood storage room at the hospital, my left arm was bitten by a Zombie, but there are no bite marks here now!"
Mo Xiaohui looked surprised. "Are you saying you can resist the Zombie Virus? And you can heal quickly?"
Li Nan nodded. "That's right! I don't know when I gained this ability, but it must be because of Liu Heping's influence!"
Mo Xiaohui's mouth fell open in disbelief; this was simply too outrageous. After witnessing the Zombies in this world firsthand, she had developed deep doubts. However, after seeing many of her kind perish at the hands of Zombies, she realized that everything happening before her was real! Now Li Nan told her he could resist the Zombie Virus—was this still an apocalypse? Should she still fear the Zombies?
Mo Xiaohui's answer was clear: just because Li Nan was not afraid of the Zombie Virus did not mean she could also be unafraid of being devoured by Zombies or that she could live safely in this apocalypse. The current situation was that even if Li Nan possessed abilities beyond those of ordinary people, what difference would it make? Could he change this world?
Nothing would change; Li Nan would still be Li Nan, and she would still be that petite woman. The world had become what it was; no one could change it!
Li Nan reached out his hands to cup Mo Xiaohui's face, but he only touched air.
Mo Xiaohui moved away slightly and said softly, "Whether I take care of you or you take care of me, it won't change for any reason, right?"
Li Nan agreed, and Mo Xiaohui continued, "In this apocalypse, you will never become a Zombie. But what about me? Maybe one day I will turn into that kind of monster—would you kill me?"
"I will not let you be harmed by a Zombie, so you will never become that kind of monster!"
Mo Xiaohui began to cry, "What I mean is, if one day I am infected by a Zombie, please make sure to end my life. I absolutely do not want to become that kind of monster, absolutely!"
For a moment, the atmosphere in the room was quite strange. In the end, Li Nan and Mo Xiaohui embraced tightly until a ray of sunlight shone into the room.
Li Nan felt a strong light shining on his skin and immediately asked Mo Xiaohui, "Is the sun out? Has the rain outside stopped?"
Mo Xiaohui nodded and then shook her head, "The sun is out, but the rain hasn't stopped. It's sunny rain outside now!"
Li Nan murmured, "The sun is out, so life isn't too bad!"
Mo Xiaohui agreed, "I don't know how good or bad it is outside, but inside this building, it shouldn't be too bad!"
Li Nan smiled, "A blind man and a woman; I bet this life is more interesting than Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio!"
Mo Xiaohui chuckled non-stop, "Who would want to live that kind of shameless life with you!"
